This has only gotten spicer since I was last here. I love the humor of my kin!

My mother used to have a retired anglican minister as a boy friend before they both passed away. He used to make jokes about "Americans" being so fixated on the english. She set him straight..."wouldn't you be fixated on the **stards who exiled your from your homeland so long ago?" He never said another word on the subject.

I love a man in a kilt!

As to what they wear under them, I have heard that it is knee socks...

Cool a Scottish thread...

I was born in Kinross and came to Canada when I was 2 months old. I joke with people and tell them I lost my accent when I came to Canada...LOL
I never really got to know my relatives there. Some of them did come to Canada to see us. I think it would be cool if I got to know my heritage and meet my relatives.

Hey If I were my kilt...can I were nothin underneath too....LOL

that would be me. Came to Canda when I was 24. there are none so Scottish as those who have left. I never attended a burns supper or saw men in Kilts ( only at weddings) till I came here. I have dreamt a lot of dreams about men in kilts and there is always some strange connection with turkey necks that pops up !

Angus MacWeinburg here...old Scottish clan from county Yudeah.

If I were a kilt, I'd be wrappin' mah sporran 'round Heather Graham, Marcia Cross or Sela Ward.

Captain - The clan system is still alive today, the crown banned the wearing of tartan and most of the clearances were due to greedy landowners who thought it was profitable to have sheep on the land instead of a bunch of rebellious crofters! The clan chieftains were also required to swear allegiance to the crowns representative in Scotland, which resulted in the Glencoe massacre.
For those of you who like pipe music, go to I-tunes - there is a great version Amazing Grace check it out.

I'm coming rather late to this forum (just joined POF about a month ago), so if nobody reads this I won't be too surprised.

As for what Scotsmen wear under their kilts - well, if they're wearing a kilt in public they'll wear underwear underneath for decency's sake. Up in the Highlands or in the woods of Nova Scotia where nobody can see you, it's anyone's guess.

I'm of Scots heritage myself. Mother's side emigrated to Canada from the Highlands about 150 years ago. Dad's side emigrated to Canada in 1910 or so, during the second great Scottish diaspora. So my Scottish roots aren't that far away in the greater scheme of things.

My mother used to make jam tarts and turnovers and say things like "the whole bonny bundle" - minus a Scottish accent. She liked playing the odd game of curling. Dad liked his whisky, oat cakes with butter and would, when I was little, bring home fish and chips every Friday night.

I even came from a city that very nearly came to be called Port Glasgow, until a different name was chosen. The name, of course, was a nod to the large numbers of Scots living there.

I don't have a kilt myself, but wouldn't be ashamed to wear one for special occasions. My ex-wife and I were once watching some Scottish dancers on TV. She looks at me and then proceeds to note that I must truly be Scottish, because 'all the dancers are pudgy and short like you!' In the best Scottish accent I could muster I replied, "Dae ye ken why they're fat? Because they like tae EAT!!"

I've just looked at my photos and I appear to be Robert Bruce, King of Scots!
Jings, I wonder if the job comes with an annuity?
It's all very well featuring on coins but if it doesn't come with a hefty salary, I'm abdicating.

I've no Scot's blood flowing in me, that I know of. However, my ancestors were frequent visitors a millenium or so ago. So there probably is a blood relation there somewhere.

i'm not, but my ex was. he wore a kilt to his sister's wedding in scotland (claimed no underwear, but he lied! ). he wore a suit to ours and although we walked down the isle to the misa luba (music from african catholic mass i had saved from the 60's) and my friends sung gospel in the background-- we had a bagpiper play havana gila (spelling?) at the reception. people thought i was kidding when i said he was coming.

so much for marrying a brooklyn jewish woman with a multi-cultural upbringing! the ex even stepped on the wine glass (jewish style) provided by the unitarian minister. my friends and clients all told me it was the funniest and most fun wedding they ever had gone to and it was low budget and put together by all of them for me. i think it was the next best thing to being able to attend one's own funeral and get to see what everyone says about you and watch all the action.

so the first husband was irish descent, the second was scottish straight over on the boat (just kidding, but he was a permanent usa resident) and the current manfriend is welsh descent. hmmmm.... well, at least our kids are african american and peruvian (with hindu names).

I wear a kilt fairly often and what I wear under it depends on where I am and what I am doing. It's all or nothing.
The sporran was originally a leather pouch worn around the waist to carry food etc.
To guys who have never worn a kilt, you should try it. It's very warm, because of the weight, and it makes you feel 10 feet tall.
I think my profile has a picture of me wearing one.

What a question..... of course not .... Scotland is an imaginary country ...
all the people left a thousand years ago. just after they burnt all the trees.
Now its inhabited by ghosts of the pics and disenchanted vikings who morose over the posibility of becoming interbred with a Saxon.
