If there is, do you know what men wear under their kilts? I have been dying to know for sure. Does anyone know?

| Is anyone out there Scottish? Posted: 11/19/2007 2:27:51 PM | I have various Canadian military Highland uniforms that I wear for historical displays here in Ottawa. Right from what the Highland Battalions wore in the First World War to the Second World war. I also play the bagpipes. The First World War uniform with the helmet, web gear, kilt apron and bagpipes looks the best in my opinion. My father is from Scotland and served in a Highland Battalion during the Second World War as did my Grandfather in the First World War and many Uncles.
What do I wear under my kilt? My boots, hose tops and puttees of course.

| Is anyone out there Scottish? Posted: 11/20/2007 5:16:48 PM | Frazier Clan represent... I wear my kilt on St. Patty's Day. When I was a kid my dad made us wear orange. If you are Scottish, you get it. My dad is Canadian and his father piped and marched there. I have a fabulous picture of him in his kilt with his pipes. I believe it was my grandfather that said that what they always wore under kilts were shoes. Smart man, his feet were protected. I grew up going to the Highland Festival in Alma Michigan, Scotland USA!!! This summer we did a Highland Festival and the kilt contest. My oldest entered it. After one man did a circle awfully fast on the stage and I saw his assets, I wondered what my son on stage saw. He questioned that this man was really Scottish as he didn't think he had the tuner he thought he should. The Frazier Clan has a couple of coats of arms, one has a....strawberry as in Fraise. Their motto is "Je suis prete" (hopefully spelt right) which means I am ready. I think I chose my name on pof appropriately. I should also add that we (Sims) are adopted to the Fraiser/Fraizer Clan. I don't want to go through the whole story, blood wise, we are not Scottish. | |

| Is anyone out there Scottish? Posted: 7/4/2008 5:27:13 AM | I was married to someone with Scottish line (half). I have always loved the sound of a piper and have gotten to enjoy many a tune. If can not ever get to Scotland (my neighbor does regularly) then consider Nova Scotia. You can enjoy the Highlands, the music and even a Tattoo if you plan it right. Can you believe that many pipes have cassettes and cd's built in these days for long plays of it you just can't learn to play the pipes? I am told it is very difficult so it is an alternative. No passport required to drive/sail to Canada as yet. Nova Scotia always has the welcome mat out. You do need one to fly to Halifax (or other parts). When you arrive by ship in Yarmouth Nova Scotia a bag piper welcomes you. ALMOST like a trip to Scotland. There is even a wool shop that can get (if they don't have in stock) books, plaids or kilts in just about every clan! I have friends who visited from Florida who picked up everything Robertson for Christmas gifts to their family. And, you just might find a fella in his kilt to check out for yourself! | |

| Is anyone out there Scottish? Posted: 7/5/2008 5:42:59 AM | Mother Trucker,
Since you’ve asked … Mike Cross wrote a Scottish tune titled “Under the Scotsman's Kilt” in which he did his best to answer your question. If you use the following link you can listen to the little ditty & it’s accompanied by a creative little animation.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R2ouuPyYVDw
Below I’ve provided the lyrics to Mike’s Scottish tune & directly below it a rarely heard 2nd verse that was added several yrs later & is not heard on the audio link I provided.
I hope this serves to answer your question! Gary
Under the Scotsman's Kilt By Mike Cross
Well, a Scotsman clad in kilt left the bar one evening fair. And one could tell by how he walked that he'd drunk more than his share. He fumbled 'round until he could no longer keep his feet. And he stumbled off into the grass to sleep beside the street.
Ring-ding-diddle-iddle-a- ladio, Ring di diddle-e-i-o He stumbled off into the grass to sleep beside the street.
About that time two young and lovely girls just happened by. One says to the other with a twinkle in her eye, "See yon sleeping Scotsman so strong and handsome built. I wonder if it's true what they don't wear beneath the kilt."
Ring-ding-diddle-iddle-a- ladio, Ring di diddle-e-i-o I wonder if it's true what they don't wear beneath the kilt.
They crept up on that sleeping Scotsman quiet as could be. Lifted up his kilt about an inch so they could see. And there behold for them to view beneath his Scottish skirt. Was nothin' more than God had graced him with upon his birth.
Ring-ding-diddle-iddle-a- ladio, Ring di diddle-e-i-o Was nothin' more than God had graced him with upon his birth.
They marveled for a minute then one said, "We must be gone. Let's leave a present for our friend before we move along." As a gift they left a blue silk ribbon tied into a bow. Around the bonnie star the Scot's kilt did lift and show.
Ring-ding-diddle-iddle-a- ladio, Ring di diddle-e-i-o Around the bonnie star the Scot's kilt did lift and show.
Now the Scotsman woke to nature's call and stumbled towards the trees. Behind the bush he lifts his kilt and gawks at what he sees. And in a startled voice he says to what's before his eyes, "Oh, lad I don't know where you've been, but I see you've won first prize."
Ring-ding-diddle-iddle-a- ladio, Ring di diddle-e-i-o "Oh, lad I don't know where you've been, but I see you've won first prize."
This is the rarely heard 2nd verse to Mike Cross's little ditty:
Our scottish friend, still in his kilt, continued down the street. He hadn't gone ten yards or more, when a girl he chanced to meet. She said "I've heard what's under there, tell me, is it so?" He said "Just slip your hand up, miss, if you'd really like to know".
She put her hand right up his kilt, and much to her surprise, The Scotsman smiled, and a very strange look came into his eyes. She cried: "Why sir, that's gruesome!" and then she heard him roar: "If you put your hand up once again, you'd find it grew some more!"

...We had our Stampede parade in Calgary yesterday which included representation from the Canadian Scottish Regiment....very impressive, love the bagpipes.

| Is anyone out there Scottish? Posted: 7/24/2008 6:21:41 AM | | my family is Scottish. My youngest son wears the Kilt. He wears boxers under it when wearing nothing isn't appropriate. The bag in the front is a Sporan. It is used to hold things because a Kilt does not have pockets. We belong to the Watson clan. | |
