I worked in a family pizza joint while I was in High School..

The owner's daughter...was waiting on this guy that kept being an A$$.

When she delievered the 'large' pizza to the 'large' man....
She dumped the whole pizza in his LAP...
then, one by one put the pieces back on the pan....
Once she was done......she said with a smile " Can I get you anything else SIR?"

He apologized for being an A$$.....
and tipped her $20.00.!!

I wrote a satirical script about this kind of behaviour a few years ago because my best friend was a chef kept at his wits' end by jerkoff customers.

Some prick thought he knew more about steak than the chefs did - and after they figured out what he wanted (he said rare but actually wanted...medium-well or well-done I think)

The sad thing is, I saw one or two guys talking about bad service and how you guys seem to have a lot of audacity to say what you say, but having worked retail and had many friends in the service industry, I cannot side with that attitude.

There are lots of great customers, sure. But there are far more bad customers than bad servers. And if you think I'm full of it, you'd be surprised how much big management actually agrees with it. Big management still expects you to bend over and take it up the ass anyway, though - at least if you work in a corporate envirnoment like Kelsey's or Montana's ;)

The major problem is that we seem to have this utmost sense of entitlement and self-importance. Ego is good but only to a point. But when you treat people like servants, you need to have your ass kicked. Period. Employees answer to their employers, not you.

I worked in the hotel industry for years. I expect people to be stupid and annoying and selfish, so when they act that way, it doesn't bother me. This one bothered me:

A man came into the restaurant with his elderly father. He ordered one meal, for the father. Before the meal arrived, he went up to the hostess and explained there was something he need to attend to and would have to leave for "a moment." He went on to say his father would stay and would need "help" with his meal.

The father was unable to feed himself and had to be spoon-fed by the restaurant manager. The father could not be let alone because he was very confused, so after eating, the manager waited at the table with the gentleman until his son returned an hour later. The manager kept his cool with the son. I'd of let the guy have it.

Waiters and waitresses should unionize! A union would put a stop to this $2.75/hour baloney. I am appalled that waitstaff are allowed to be paid that far below the minimum wage. I think waitstaff should be paid AT LEAST the minimum wage, PLUS tips. They work very hard, and deserve to make a decent living!

^^^^^But the server isn't automatically entitled to a 20% tip.

looking for a reason to save 20% of the bill that they should be leaving for the server

Omigosh. I've dealt with rude people from both sides of the counter, and I can tell you that the customers are worse. The general manager of a movie theater had me move to the far side of the counter to clean up where the closed registers were. With push broom in hand, one customer after another came over convinced that any of my registers, which read "closed" were somehow open. Perhaps the fact that I was pushing a broom was not enough to convince them that they should try someone with an open register. After a lengthy discussion, I would get some argument as though it had been my plan all along to leave them high and dry.

As soon as they left, the next customer "in line" would come up and start placing a lengthy order, completely oblivious to the fact that I had just sent the previous lady away. After completing their entire order (not letting me get a word in edgewise) they would stare at me, even getting angry while I told them the exact same thing that I had told the previous customer.

It took more than fifteen minutes to get all of these customers--one by one, mind you--to go over to one of the open registers. When the same general manager came out and saw what was happening, guess who gets the blame. All for minimum wage, no tips.

I have worked retail for 4 years, and I could tell you loads of stories.
Recently, I had a punk teenage kid come into my store and decide he was going to pop some of our helium balloons. Once I realized what he was doing, I told him he'd have to pay for the balloons he just popped. His response was "I will if I want to" I said...No, you WILL pay for those balloons. And I made sure my cashier added them to his mom's order.
I know I am not much older then some teens, but I never acted like some of these kids do nowadays. I never would have walked into a store and randomly decided to damage merchandise and then got mouthy with the cashier over it. And his mom didn't even say anything to him over it! Teens these days just have no respect. If I would have pulled a stunt like that at the store with my mom when I was a teenager..Oh Lord help me! lol
