| Serious question about hula-hoops Posted: 5/28/2007 10:50:05 AM | Yes, but everyone knows Hula-Hoops really aren't that fun.
Oh, but they're lots of fun. My boyfriend is proud that I quickly learned to keep it up for so long.

Yeah, I love them--it's funny you should post about this at this time because I saw your post just after getting back from a 12-hour overnight relay event that I was participating in (raising money for cancer research). There were hundreds of people there and organizers try to have different activities to amuse people while they're there (not everyone is on the track at the same time and it's meant as a "fun" event)... so, anyway, I took a bunch of my hula-hoops and people stopped to check them out and try hooping... and, when it got dark enough, I took a bunch of glow sticks and stuffed them into some clear pvc tubing and hooped with that (although, in retrospect, it would have been easier to simply tape them to the outside of a regular hoop) and got rave reviews from everyone! They glowed for the entire night and all the kids wanted to try it out!

| Serious question about hula-hoops Posted: 5/31/2007 12:02:21 PM | offthewheel: sounds like what you do is fun and very beneficial----great combination, keep it up. Speaking of keeping it up......I can do it! After a few days of practicing I can hula hoop like I did as a kid. I have been having a blast. I can even walk while doing it and turn in circles. I am now practicing with two.....getting kinda good at that. I am sooooo ready for the party. I won't be the best, but at least I'll be able to hold my own.
Thanks again for your advice.

| Serious question about hula-hoops Posted: 5/31/2007 8:42:21 PM | I'm not sure if this was discussed yet but there are weighted hula hoops for working out. They come in the same incriments that small dumbells would. Be careful if you get a heavy one, it can bruise.

Good luck. | |

| Serious question about hula-hoops Posted: 6/3/2007 6:01:22 PM | I cant see Hula hooping being a big energy burner any more than swinging on a swing. They are booth about inputing the 'right" amount of energy to maintain the harmonic. The longest my daughter has done it is two hours, she can walk, talk ,play even read while doing it and she has never broken a sweat hula hooping.....now pogo sticks..theres an exercise | |

| Serious question about hula-hoops Posted: 6/14/2007 11:55:27 PM | | This is kinda off the subject of the hula hoop but kinda on the subject as well. I was getting bored with kick boxing and really did not have the room for one of those standing punching bag things so I bought a tetter ball and hung it from a tree to work on my puches and kicks. Anyone who wants to say that that is not a work out ought to try it. I get to have fun with the kids, learn more balance, and exercise all at once. | |

| Serious question about hula-hoops Posted: 6/29/2008 1:53:35 AM | I've been looking for them, we can't get them anywhere here, but oooh they are good for those muscles in strange places!!! I tried the ball bearing ones once, they have got to be the ultimate, you can build up more speed. You can "jump rope style" with hoops too. I've found slow hula type exercises are good to relieve a stiff back at times. The smaller hoops are great for swinging around your feet, one on each leg and you keep them horizontal/sliding on the ground as you alternate your feet to run. Go girl! | |
