| Why Does It Seem That EVERYONE On This Site Rides Motorcycles??? Posted: 2/8/2008 8:39:04 PM | I've been one bikes of one form or another since I was five and won't stop riding until I'm dead!
It doesn't matter WHAT you ride; what matters is that you DO ride.
Absolutly right,..its,
not about trying to look and act tough or cool. It's not about having a bunch of tattoos and/or piercings. It's not about status.
Im just about to turn 55,..have riden bikes for more than just a couple months,..and have had a couple different types.
I've watched the "Harley" crowd,...go from a "Brotherhood" ,..that would stop when ever they saw another brother broken down by the side of the road,.....turn into a bunch of egotistical snobs, that wont hardly give you the time of day.
If you were "Old School",..it didnt matter what kind of bike you had, cause it was the general concensus that eventualy, you'd end up on a Harley.
Then the "Biker Wars" started,....
"If you aint on an Indian,..you aint crap" "If you aint on a Harley,...you aint crap" "If you aint on a Knucklehead, ...you aint crap" "If you aint on a PanHead,...you aint crap"
And that nonsence goes on to this very day.
I've had my fill of listening to RUB's talking shyt about Sturgis, and Daytona,...just places people go to show off.
Now dont get me wrong,..theres still a "Brotherhood" among Bikers,......its just hard to tell who's who,...because they all dress alike,....
I pierced my own ear, when I was 12, got my first tattoo at 17,....my first bike at 19,.... back then,..it WAS COOL,..to have your ear pierced,..and to have a TAT,...was WAY COOL,......now a days,...everybodys got them,....you wanna be different,....dont get tats, or piercings.
Yeah, once you get your first taste of freedom on the open road, it starts being a way of life,...I started that journey early, and have been into bikes every since,....
Once in New York City, a friend of mine was showing off his Sporty,..he was jumping up and down on it furiously trying to start it,...needless to say,..he has a story to tell his grandkids,....I went over,..grabbed the kicker, and pushed it thru, till I got it on compression stroke,....and pushed it down, and started his bike, by hand. He couldnt believe it,..but after I showed him how,..he could do it himself.
I do most of my riding solo,..my best bud,..is a Lady I grew up with in the old hood, she finally got her a bike a couple of years ago,..and its in her blood now.
I like to go for rides with her, cause she is a lot like me,....not in a hurry, not interested in riding in the city to show off,..we prefer the more senic route, out in the country, taking our time, going places we've never been,..and even going back to old haunts once in a while.
Riding a bike, gets in your blood,..you know,....I never, ever used to call myself a biker, cause I hated to see what some of the so called bikers really were,.....just "Boys with Toys",.....after all these years,...I have several close friends, that think a lot like me,...were part of the "Old School" that invented the term "Biker",..and should always remember that, and be proud of the fact.
BIKER BORN,.......BIKER BRED BIKER,BIKER, ..TILL IM DEAD !

We are putting you on notice, that this pretty bike cames with the package, and we don't wanna hear you moaning the classic: "It's me or the bike!"

| Why Does It Seem That EVERYONE On This Site Rides Motorcycles??? Posted: 2/10/2008 12:03:02 PM | hi everybody OOOOOhhhhhh I love my bikes ,I have a Royal Enfield and a CBR 600 F .
O.P. If you have to ask the question you will never know the answer ..... m/cycling is the best fun you can have with your clothes on...end of .
As far as these idiots that bring politics into biking , they are a bunch of mirror watchers ,too busy looking at themselves , trying to look cool . They miss the whole point of how to enjoy motor bikes ,which to me is being yourself and loving what you do . It doesn't matter the size of engine or which country your bike was made in ,its about respect and keeping it real .

It's not everyone, it's mostly POSERS which make up a large percentage of the "HARLEY RIDERS" and the like

| Why Does It Seem That EVERYONE On This Site Rides Motorcycles??? Posted: 2/14/2008 7:27:44 AM | The reason you probably don't see more bikers out than what you do is because you probably have completely different driving habits from recreation bikers. While most people find the fastest and shortest way to get where they are going, bikers don't necessarily ride to get where they are going, but they do so for the pure enjoyment of the ride. That being said, they often prefer small rural roads to large highways.
While you are driving down the freeway just to get from point A to point B, they are on a winding road with great scenery not knowing exactly where they are going until they get there.
freedom is a choice and we all have our choice to make. so ride hard or stay home ;) So let me get this straight...in your first sentence you sound like you are promoting freedom, but in the next sentence, you give everyone an ultimatum. If you are saying that our only two choices here are either ride hard or stay at home, then how can you even suggest that we have very much freedom at all? Is that not a tremendous contradiction? It's this kind on thinking that gives the biker community a bad name.

LOL...my take is the post you object to is someone who believes in actual constitutional rights - freedom - remember that? you took a position against his/her choice of words, and then biased an entire community with your big red marking pen! I'd say you're flying colors that are bigoted first and ridiculous politician second....

| Why Does It Seem That EVERYONE On This Site Rides Motorcycles??? Posted: 2/18/2008 6:07:19 PM | I've road since I was 12 years of age. Maybe Evil Knievel or the Fonz in Happy Days had some influence on me. Not sure! However, I know that I miss having one so I am deciding once again to get back into it. Been eyeing the Truimp Scrambler. Not ready for the lounge chair such as the Harely Heritage Special quit yet. | |

| Why Does It Seem That EVERYONE On This Site Rides Motorcycles??? Posted: 3/30/2008 11:46:55 AM | I ride a 750 Shadow Aero many of my riding buddies have HD'S and they not HD snobs. Days have changed since the old boys days and even they are not snobs anymore and ride with any kind of bike. Maybe the reason ''''EVERYONE''' on this site a bit presumptious is that now it is also very very acceptable for a woman to have her own bike.
Doesn't matter what you ride as long as you got something under yer arse

| Why Does It Seem That EVERYONE On This Site Rides Motorcycles??? Posted: 3/31/2008 8:26:09 PM | Personally I can't stand the things but there's nothing more frustrating than watching people ignorantly repeating tired cliches and stereotypes about a person's lifestyle choices. Some people simply enjoy riding their motorcycles. It's not about status or some look they feel they have to have. They just like to ride the machines. That's it.
P.S. : The leather may make some of you think to yourselves "Yeah , whatever, he's just trying to look 'bad'." Actually, leather is worn for the simple reason that if a motorcyclist finds himself or herself in a crash a seatbelt isn't going to be of much use. Leather is great protection against road-rash and flying debris on the highway. Yes, even insects can hurt you when you're doing a hundred kph on the open highway and all you're wearing is a nylon jacket or a tank top.

| Why Does It Seem That EVERYONE On This Site Rides Motorcycles??? Posted: 6/6/2008 11:26:32 AM | I have to wonder if the OP sees so few motorcycles because, like a lot of car drivers, they don't LOOK for them!!
My Man has always called himself a "biker". He doesn't have any tattoos or piercings and he doesn't belong to a club or "gang". What he is, is a man who LOVES being on his bike and who will ride any chance he gets. He's been known to ride on Christmas Day, on New Year's Day, in February.. I think you get the point I'm trying to make here.
As long as there is no snow or ice on the road and not a lot of gravel, AND it's warmer than about 35ºF outside, chances are good he'll be on his bike. Chances are good I'll be sitting right behind him too.
LOL I've always preferred the term " motorcycle enthusiast". As I and others have posted here previously, being a "biker" is all about attitude, your way of thinking, and your way of life. It's NOT about trying to look cool or tough, being tattooed, long-haired, or pierced.
You don't have to ride a Harley to be a "biker", and Harleys are not the only "real" bikes. To say that a Harley is the only "real" bike or to say that it is the only bike "worth riding" is like saying that a Dodge Ram is the only "real" truck or the only truck "worth driving", or that a Ford Mustang is the only "real" car out there, etc. Just like any other vehicle, it's all a matter of brand preference.
A person's height, weight, strength, ability, intended use, and lifestyle are all considerations when choosing a motorcycle. Because I'm so damn short, there are only a few makes and models that I can safely ride.
You have to be able to put both feet flat on the ground when straddling a bike to safely operate it, and you have to have enough strength to pick it up should you be so unfortunate as to lay it down.
Unfortunately, if we're riding in Alberta, we have to wear helmets-- courtesy of some pesky helmet law-- so there's not really a chance to feel the wind in our hair to any great degree. Believe me, I certainly understand the sentiment behind that feeling though.
LOL This post is getting long, so I'm gonna put this one up and and discuss some other things relating to motorcycles and " the lifestyle" in another one.

| Why Does It Seem That EVERYONE On This Site Rides Motorcycles??? Posted: 6/6/2008 1:39:37 PM | I think that as gasoline prices continue to skyrocket, you will see more and more motorcycles on the road.
The other thing that seems to be happening, is that motorcycles are becoming more "mainstream". More and more you will see that there are doctors, lawyers, teachers, accountants, and other "professionals" buying and riding motorcycles.
I spent a week in the Black Hills of South Dakota ( which is in the vicinity of Sturgis ) in early May 2008 and had an opportunity to talk to quite a few locals, both of the "biker" and non-biker variety. What I was told by both groups may surprise you guys.
The good folks of Sturgis have seen a huge increase in the numbers of "professionals" that are not just riding bikes but are attending the rally. The result has been that they've jacked up the cost of pretty much everything because they figure that these guys have lots of money. The prices don't just get jacked up during Bike Week-- they jack up the prices for the week before and after the rally as well, hoping to capitalize on anybody who may come early or stay late. It now costs $10.00 for a hi-ball or a beer during Bike Week. Hotel rooms range from $250-1000 a night. Even a campsite will run $75.00 or more per night.
The law enforcement agencies and business owners have also clamped WAY down on "illegal" and "immoral" conduct . There are stiff penalties for public nudity ( read: flashing your titties ), urinating in public, public drunkenness, littering, excessive noise ( read: loud pipes or boom boxes ), and various other misdemeanors. The fines start at $500.
The old way of "anything goes" at Bike Week is a thing of the past. It has become more of a politically correct, conservative, Big Business-orientated thing, rather than a celebration of the biker lifestyle.
What has been happening in the last three or four years because of the shift in attitude and the obvious price-gouging is that the "average joe" bikers are starting to congregate in Beulah, Wyoming for at least two days of the Bike Week R ally. Beulah, Wyoming is just across the state line and is less than thirty minutes from Sturgis.
Apparently the people of Beulah are very welcoming and are more than happy to receive the tourism dollars that the bikers bring with them. What I was told is that the local law enforcement also will "turn a blind eye" on the small stuff such as flashing, drunkenness, noise, etc. and will only intervene when it is more serious... basically, let the bikers have a good time and don't hassle them.
I visited Sturgis while I was in the area and it is a sleepy little town with next to nothing to offer in terms of tourism. It is my opinion that they're biting the hand that feeds them, and the actions they're taking might come back to bite them in the a$$.
BTW, I paid $2.55 for my****ails, $2.25 for a Mike's Hard Lemonade, and $45 a night for my hotel room during the nine days I was there.
The other thing I wanted to mention is that the Black Hills is an AMAZING place and I can see why the area attracts so many bikers. The roads there are a biker's dream with lots of curves and incredible scenery. I'll be back-- but next time I want to be on two wheels not four.
