Are Wit And Intelligance Related?

I know some very quick witted people who can crack me up with spot on comebacks at others, who get my sense of humour and are very quick off the ball. Intelligent however they aint- or maybe not so much unintelligent as not very world aware, for instance this morning i said "wonder how many americans have hangovers this morning" he was "what? why?" THE INAUGURATION? "the what?"

Mssg 23.

I don't think you need to be really smart to be witty. But I think you do to be quick-witted. Often times a quip isn't funny if it's an hour late.

Moreso I think "intelligence" is just one metric of, for lack of a better word, brainpower.

There's intelligence, wisdom and sharpness, the latter being a measure of how "quick" somebody is

How very true. I would say quick-witted is always linked to highly intelligent . But then again... I'm biased [or more likely , self-deluded]

Wit, n. The salt with which the humorist spoils his intellectual cookery by leaving it out.

I think wit is self developed mental ability of connecting unusual subjects/ theories therefore it is connected to intelligence on some level i.e. the quick brain work but you get these people sometimes come out with absolute irritating rubbish if you look at their ability from an academic angle.

I think wit is more connected to pulling/driving someone's attention on you or with charm, and reason for developing 'the wit' could lie within someone's looks i.e. they do not have looks or expression which would pull attention in other way so they have to do it with words, although 'the wits' could also have lots to do with attention seeking disorder.

I remember showing someones profile to a friend/ forumate and he said 'he does not need wits to pull' meaning to say 'he looks good' but same time I noticed that person actually had wit meaning maybe he had developed it for some other reasons in his childhood.
