its entirely possible. i fell in love with a guy i met online, and we had a long distance relationship for about a year. ended up with a broken heart, but i have faith that it could happen again and this time it might work out to be the best thing that ever happened to me. my mom fell in love with a man she met online and they have now been married for 4 years. so ya never know.

Hmm... don't doubt you Holly, but how does one fall in love with someone they've never seen, except in a photograph?

you can fall in love with somebody's personality, charm and picture online but the test is when you meet them do you click....true " love " is measured with time and how much your willing to give up for a person with all their faults and shortcomings. that you can't measure until you actually meet someone. looking for love online is not the best way to fall in love, most of the girls are married and bored and just looking for a safe way to be romanced without actually doing the deed. some others just latch on to any man that shows them a little attention....but there are some who are serious and level-headed about it...but they are few and far between

Ditto, xxchuck. Well stated.

Holly, is it true they "fell in love" on-line? Or would xxchuck's thesis be more likely? Sure, they met on-line, began to develop feelings based on their common interests, and then fell in love after meeting?

Or do you propose that they fell in love before ever meeting? I think that's leatherangel's question, is it not?

I cannot imagine falling in love with someone having not gazed into her eyes, held her hand, and at least have had some common experiences together...

Depends on how much of the relation was online...My last relationship of 3 years was the result of meeting in a chatroom, chating on a messenger, talking on the phone etc.. When I first meet her in person I thought to myself there was no way anything would come of it. Little did I know then that in a couple years I would be writing musical instrumentals and naming them after her. The more we got to know each other the more I fell in love (and I think her too).. funny how in the end things made such a 180 degree flip, but I feel something changed on her part. It was like I gave up a job to be with her, and after a few months of living together I realized I had to sever the "love" now or spend years going down a painful road.

But, yes.. much of our relationship was online. There was a time we talked on the phone abut 1/2 the time, the other time chating..

I believe its easy to fall in love online, The person can say what you want them say, and do what you want them to do. They'll act like the most charming person in the world, and Whoo you with words you'd like to hear. Online relentionships can be hard, there mostly bassed on trust. For instast are you sure that picture of them? is really the person? Or are you sure there age is correct? I also believe if you get to know someone online, lets say you knew them about five years. You might form a sorta feeling for them, This happen to me ones unforently it didn't work out well but were still friends, good friends infact. I don't like online dateing, you can't tuch/smell and see the person. It can be nerv racking and it can be hard on you and your partner. so whatever you choice to believe if you believe one can fall in love overline thats fine, but if you believe that one must see and tuch, well as geting to know them, in order to fall in love that fine also. Just remember people fall in love in diffrant ways.

Well I can't really answer that, but, i will say that after their first meeting they were inseperable, and married 4 months later.. I thought it was quick.. but their answer to that was they had chatted for a full year before meeting, they talked about everything, so they felt they really knew each other.. the meeting (was in their mind) a formality. It obviously has worked for them (altho it has only been 4 years), but so far, they are very happy.

Well, so far I've heard one story that gets close - Holly's story about her mom and "step-dad." Otherwise, everyone else seems to detail stuff like jammer. I've been doing a fairly intense Internet search for about six months now. In six months, I've only had 3 "first meetings" out of 100's of attempted contacts. Two of those first meetings told me I wasn't ready to date yet (because of my recent divorce), and the other simply stopped corresponding. And out of those 100's of contacts, maybe only a handful ever responded anyway.

But I think I've got a case that convinces me on-line dating doesn't really work - certainly makes it tough to believe anyone can fall in love over the internet. I almost fell victim to one of those Russian scam things. "She" corresponded with me almost every day. After about 3-4 weeks I started to catch on. Then I did a little internet research and discovered exact copies of some of the e-mails "she" sent me on the scam sites. I didn't lead "her" on in any way, told "her" I was extremely cautious, and that we needed to take plenty of time. Of course, that wasn't "her" purpose at all. She "fell in love" after six e-mails. And I merely stopped communicating with "her." Anyway, with all the scams, players and so forth out there, you simply CAN'T fall in love over the Internet. It's just too risky.

And I've even found someone on this site I'm extremely interested in. She seems very nice, and likes to chat with me, but I know for a fact she's being "courted" by several men on this site. My chances? Who knows... but how can she develop feelings in a chat room?

Actually I thinks it's very possible, but only if this person is honest with you. In fact I think its the perfect place because most of the time you get to know this person before you see them face to face.

Hmm... well that was my point. You really CAN'T trust that you're getting to know someone online. That Russian scammer proved to me that you can do anything you want on-line. "She" had pictures of this pretty Russian girl all lined up and everything. A story about family, what "she" did and so on.

There's got to be more, or you're setting yourself up for real disaster. Lots of time on the phone. "Safe" face-to-face dates in public places and so on. I agree. You can begin to know someone on-line, but it has to be taken off line asap just to know that the person is real. Like babygurl says, infatuation call develop quickly. If the person is a player, or its a scam, you could get in deep before you know it.

I've never met a partner online, so I don't know, but I really hope it is possible...

It would be cool to have that sort of connection, while still having those blind date jitters when you finally meet in person...
