| The Laws of Attraction.
Posted: 6/16/2007 6:51:22 AM | | Last week I watched a biography of Al Pacino and during the whole time it was on I was waiting for them to show a clip of Dog Day Afternoon, especially the one where he comes out of the bank shouting "Attica! Attica!". Anyway, they showed a diffrent clip and I remember being kind of diappointed and thinking that I was going to call the video store to see if the had the movie on DVD. Well I never got around to it. So last night I spent the night at my mother's house and I couldn't sleep, so as I was channel surfing, guess what was on Cinemax? Yup, DDA. And I got to see the "Attica!" part. Afterward, I was thinking it was like the stars had lined up to put in me the exact place that I neded be in order to see the movie. So maybe there is something to it. | |

On your profile just put the things you want, The secret is not impeckable, you can think about what you want all you want and not get it, if you do get what you want that doesnt mean that its whats best for you, most people want the things they want for the purpose of comfort and not growth, And as far as attraction goes your subconscious plays a big part in what you attract so i find the deeper understanding i have of what it means to grow and evolve the more i can use everything for my development and learn about what it really means to be happy, To really be happy means you can be happy without getting what you want and seeing that you always get what you need. | |

ANYWAYS, i'm glad that the "secret" work for people. There's things about the secret that i like because it makes people practice positive thinking. Psychology proof that people with positive thinking is able to accomplish more in their lives then negative thinking. But part of the law saying that if you think negative you attract negative is basicly resaying it. Now i believe in the theory of the "ying and yang" where there's positive and negative, and withing each of them there exist the other. But who to say what is positive thinking and what is negative thinking? i mean some people just think everything is positive and vice versa. I believe too much of anything is bad for ya. The "secret" doesn't have that kind of limit, it's basicly "go out there and get everything!" :)... | |

The folks who market the "Law of Attraction" are idiots and morons. Maybe your view is a little different. They have said outright, in order to defend their methodology, that the people in Darfur brought the pain, suffering, and genocide on themselves by what they were thinking. Seriously, it's utter nonsense. Oprah, after going ga-ga over "Shhh, The Secret", had to make a statement detracting herself from a whole-acceptance of "The Law of Attraction" as stated in such books. I understand, people treat it like religion -- they just take the pieces of ridiculousness out and sweep it under the rug.
The promoters of the Law of Attraction (who originally get the original credit for it, but there are personal variations out there), state that you worrying about your bills attracts bills coming to you, and that the method to eliminate bills from coming to your home is to not think about them. Want to lose weight? Don't think about/worry about being fat. In fact, don't LOOK at fat people, because you will more likely gain weight. What if you get your bills in the mail, or do gain weight? "You weren't visualizing well enough." It avoids itself from being validated and leaves itself only to one's interpretation -- hence, me re-labeling it "The Law of Interpretation: How to Fool Yourself".
This promotion has its variances, but the point is they don't explain this being a chain of indirect effects of psychology, etc. Sure, that can play a role, but the "secret" to it all is they claim it has to do with quantum mechanics that "proves" it, and it's all a "secret", etc. It's laughable. It's extremely disappointing because a chimp could diffuse it. They lie about Einstein (who was not comfortable in any belief in quantum theory at the time), and they also equivocate the power of the mind and positive thinking to RIDICULOUS things that have nothing to do with it (Law of Attraction; you control things by MERELY thinking -- like traffic jams, your car being stolen, or lack thereof).
So many defenders will say "Oh, you don't believe in positive thinking? If you don't, you'll only make things negative in life, etc". Problem of equivocation. Nobody's saying anything against positive thinking. The Law of Attraction is saying something much different, so positive thinking in the generic sense shouldn't be equated with it, and that's not what people are arguing about. | |

You can theorize about anything.
How something could work, or not.
You can write and talk all you want. But until you have practiced, and seen for yourself, whether a particular theory or concept "works" thats all it is, talk. Hot air.
Very very few people are willing to totally test their theories. To let go and try living it. No matter which "side of the fence" you are sitting on, believing it or not, you won't actually know for sure, unless you actually try it. Do everything, even to convincing yourself to believe it, just for one month. Then decide whether "it" works or not.
Most, I think, stay stuck in very limited realities. I understand it feels more comfortable.
But, I gotta tell you, this way is sooo much more fun. | |

Posted: 7/2/2007 1:43:55 PM | I've been fairly quiet about this subject because i'm still not sure about the whole concept. If it were so easy I'm sure enough copies of the secret have been sold that the world should be a different place by now... Not to mention all the spin off books, dvd's, etc... Greg Bradden also believes something similar and there have been some interesting studies done with water crystals that show our thoughts and words have an affect on the crystalline structure of water.
Dr. Emoto has done extensive research into the power of word and thought on water including a prayer vigil of sorts on one of the most polluted lakes in Japan which was purified by thought or prayer. I don't know what to think about it all to be honest, if it were true i'd probably sabotage myself by thinking that I'm not worthy or that it was the improper use of such a gift to use it for my own gain.
If all this was true I think i need to work more at being congruent within myself as my thoughts about peace and harmony aren't yielding much results if we look at the news. I find Dr. Emoto's work very interesting, but am against such things as the secret because it promotes selfish ends. If such a good idea was used collectively for the betterment of all mankind i think most people would find their hopes and dreams would diminish because the need for greed would end. However Their is always someone that wants more isn't there...

Posted: 7/2/2007 4:00:00 PM | I just met Dr. Emoto last weekend. He spoke to a small group in a Northern community in Ontario, for a few hours about his work. A remarkable man.
I was honoured to be able to thank him for his work in the world.
BTW, I made a list of people I wish to meet, just to thank them for their work.
I have met about 10 on my list so far....and been able to thank them personally for what they have done, and are doing. I still have a few more to meet, should be an interesting year.
I believe that the true human resources,' "inner technology" I call it, is really the next frontier. All of the things that people have done, that cannot be explained, shows the potential of what we all are capable of. Brains produce tremendous amounts of energy in waves. Wave to particle is how physicality is manifest. we have spent a few thousand years mainly studying the outer technologies, and how to duplicate them externally. But much of it, like computer technology, is based on human brain, and body constructs.
I am excited to be in a time when this is being explored by so many.
I also understand the silliness of getting people to understand by dangling yachts and million dollar bills as a motivation, but that movie is dealing with the people who are caught in that world. And how long do you think they will stay in that illusion once they realize what we all are capable of? So what if it uses the Holliwood glitz. I expect everyone will suddenly stop their collection of toys, and look up and go,"Hey! What would happen if we all decide on peace?"

I had to start guestioning the God of Job. The God who pushies people for thinking wrong. The first mention os sin is not in the eating of the tree of knowlege but was in the Cain and Able story. I think modern reliogn has this story in revese. Being jousous or envious of my brother.... Bad things do happen to Good People. God is not some vegful cross between Santa Clause and the Grim Reaper, making a list and checking it twice and being dammed if you do and dammed if you do. There are laws int he universe and they work... Thoguhts can help you cope with what life does bring though... I can see the glass as half full or half empty... But the law of attract comes too close to blaming victims for me. | |

Posted: 7/2/2007 9:46:17 PM | Thing is, azureorb, everything you state in your reply is objective. There is no start and finish line in this. There is no logic in it. There is no way to measure it.
I am a study of just about any theology. I have my solid belief system, but I will look at anything to understand it. I try and view from all sides, but sometimes that isn't possible. Sometimes the outside view is unobtainable.
If you put this through some sort of logic test, it will surely fail. Just as surely as God fails those tests. It is a belief and understanding that get you where you are going anyway. Without hope, belief and forward thinking, you will never get to the point which you desire. | |

As my boss was a tyrant, I did not dare try to chase her down. Anyways, one day when I was not working, I had a moment of inspiration where I decided I was going to go and meet that girl. I went to the Mall and walked everywhere convinced that I was going to meet her. Closing time for the Mall came and I never saw her. Before I headed home I decided to stop across the street at Meijers (kind of like a Wal-mart). I picked up a couple of things and got in the line for the register. Guess who got in line behind me? Yes, I got her number and we dated for a while. It amazed me, but I do not put any stock in this sort of thing as I have tried this since without success. The whole "Secret" theory reminds me of the "Name it, Claim it" people in Charismatic Churches. They believe you only have to visualize something and confess it to be so, and God will give it to you. Bad theology. | |

There is an attempt at logic in it, but yes, the 'law of attraction' prevents itself from being measured (validated or invalidated). Don't you see the problem with this concept? This isn't about hope, believe, forward thinking -- this is about idiocy and backward thinking. This is the methodology used to brainwash people. I hardly find that positive, enlightening, hopeful, beautiful, and wonderous.
But subjectively, you could make just about anything look negative or positive. But that'd be a sad sad way to live -- like a child on a fundamental level.
I have hope, belief, forward thinking, romanticism, etc. -- but that doesn't mean that I can't throw out crazy beliefs, especially when they can lead to negative consequences like literalism on law of attraction, sorry. Trying to falsely fool oneself in it may bring temporary satisfaction and joy, but it will never get you to the point which you desire, and it can end up leading people down a path which makes their lives worse (aside from the primitive, backward thinking). | |

My point on posting this was not to have a bunch of people come and bash me. I guess no one can post in these forums without having someone do that.

"Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you." Matthew 7:7
I can tell you that it is something I try and live my life by. That is what everyone should understand. And here are many more:
Matthew 18:19 "Again I say to you, that if two of you agree on earth about anything that they may ask, it shall be done for them by My Father who is in heaven."
Matthew 21:22 "And all things you ask in prayer, believing, you will receive."
Mark 11:24 "Therefore I say to you, all things for which you pray and ask, believe that you have received them, and they will be granted you."
Luke 11:9 "So I say to you, ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you."

Posted: 7/10/2007 10:31:13 PM | Right now I am in a mentoring accountability program which helps you attain your goals in life. I was at a meeting on Monday night and the speaker was speaking about the law of attraction and gave each of us a C.D. about his experiences with it. I learned a lot. Here's part of what I learned.
If you want to be a millionaire - don't say you want to be a millionaire as you will be attracting the "wanting" of it. Make statements like "I am a millionaire", this may sound like a lie but think of it as a statement projecting the future. (the speaker is a self made millionaire by the way). You can make goals of having an extra amount of money in your bank account by the end of the month. Make a vision board of what you want in your life and pretend you have them. For instance, if you want a mercedes, but can't afford it right now, go to a showroom and ask to sit in one and pretend it's yours. Buy a mercedes key chain or belt buckle. This will set your frame of mind at a higher frequency.
He also informed us that at one point he owed over a million in debt and was only making a quarter of that at the time. He found a mentor to help him with it and came up with stories as to why he was in debt (ie breakup and wife's evil lawyer) These were his dominant thoughts (negative). He worked on his way of thinking and the stories he was telling himself and got over it.
He told his mentor he wanted to pay down his debt in a year. His mentor told him that will never happen as there is always another year. Be specific. For instance, whatever amount you owe in credit card debt, say I will have it paid by July 2008. Don't say in a year as there always is another year.
Another thing is you need accountability - face your demons and what put you in your life situation. Get over any negative feelings and get on with it. If you are paying credit card debt tell a few friends and be accountable to them. At the end of every month write them a letter telling them what you paid towards your credit card and what your balance is. This way you are accountable to people. This is what I'm going to do with my credit card debt after hearing this. I will tell my friends and family what I owe and will keep them informed of my progress to have accountability in my life. I have also bought books and courses on alternative ways of making money (real estate and stocks etc.) I will learn these things and put them into action.
I am learning more about the law of attraction, and am learning more about how to manifest it in my life. Gratitude is a major factor and many times I will express gratitude for the simplest things - my cats, my car, watching the birds at my bird feeder etc., I am also working on getting rid of negative thinking in my life and forgiving the people who hurt me. When my mind starts going to negative places, I realize these are my dominant thoughts at that time, and purposely think of positive things. I will change my focus.
I believe the law of attraction is scientific to some degree as I believe it's part of quantom physics which scientists are learning more about. I watched the movie "What the bleep do we know" which is about quantom physics. There was an experiment done with water which was amazing. A picture of water was taken at the microscopic level and then samples were put out with different words in front of it. One word might be "love", or another might be "joy". These samples of water were changed by the next day microscopically. There was one sample with a negative word placed in front of it and this water looked toxic on a microscopic level. Can you imagine if water reacts to words or thoughts how us humans react (and we are made up of 80% water)
I also bought other books about the law of attraction - the Abraham books that someone mentioned but have not had time to read them yet.
I find the law of attraction very interesting and anything I learn about putting it in practice is a bonus and very uplifting. | |

If you put on your profile you don't want drunks, then you are looking for them, paying attention to the drunks and that is what you will attract. I have no interest in drunks, never been bugged by drunks and I never thought that was a MUST NOT BE in my profile. I'm guessing that I don't have a problem with these types because I'm clear in what I want and in just talking for a bit I can find out if there is interest or not by the words they use and subject matter they talk about. Those with a drinking problem probably don't talk in a way that would attract me.

Posted: 7/11/2007 11:29:17 PM | Once you have found your life's purpose - you will know this because it is a gift that gives you happiness to give to others. The greatest gift that you can give to the world is your greatest purpose. Live by it, live through it at every moment and the law of attraction will be amplified ten folds.
For instance, my greatest purpose is to educate people; to get them on a path towards advancement in whatever their endeavour is. It could be as simple as a hug or as complicated as guiding them to find their own purpose.
I get very emotional and grateful each time I help someone. Currently, I am helping a young man figure out his identity and purpose. In addition he is also a virgin and turning 20 this year. He desperately wants to be deflowered, so I am working with him to discard all the layer in his personality to reveal the true unique man within him that will naturally attract women in his life.
The more I lead with my purpose the more opportunities I get to help. I am grateful each time. And law of attraction says like attracts like.
