| the aussie POF forum Posted: 6/20/2007 6:13:52 PM | Local Forums - non Local users:
All forums have a purpose, the inclusion of the world "Local" should be the first clue. For those incapable of connecting the dots, this purpose is expressed clearly in two places:
FAQ - Local Forums - Games/Relaxed Discussion - non locals in threads
And more importantly, here:
Forum Posting Guidelines (Threads Deleted??) **Read this BEFORE posting**
- SOME "Game Threads": - are allowed, within reason, these are for the exclusive use of the users local to the forum, this is not new, this is existing policy, and it is site-wide.
Forums where this "leeway" is abused will lose the "leeway".
Relaxed Conversation Threads - Local Forums
- SOME "Relaxed Conversation Threads": - are allowed, within reason, these are for the exclusive use of the users local to the forum, this is not new, this is existing policy, and it is site-wide.
Forums where this "leeway" is abused will lose the "leeway".
The POF forums are not a chat room, nor will we tolerate those who will frequent other locals in order to use this site's local forums as a de facto chat room.
Stick to your own region's word games and "relaxed" discussion threads
One exception is if a user is hosting or attending a POF event in the Local, in this case ON-TOPIC contributions to event related threads are fine.

| the aussie POF forum Posted: 6/20/2007 6:38:54 PM | Many years ago, I was listening to an interview with Paul Kelly on JJJ probably doubleJ back then, anyway he was in a band called "The Dots" as some Melbournites may recall. The interviewer asked .... "now Paul... when did you first joint the dots"..... .... Everybody p1ssed themselves laughing of course. | |

| the aussie POF forum Posted: 10/14/2009 7:23:54 AM | I had always assumed POF was a fairly large group.. many of them singles...
yet.. there seems to be scant few really using the forum on a regular basis...
I mean if you were sitting at home.. single...nothing much going on .. kids asleep if you had them... TV boring as bat shiite... PC up and running scanning for any incoming emails from POF suitors perhaps.... playing solataire... whatever..
why wouldn't posting on the forum here having a bit of interaction, airing some views, be something interesting.. or time consuming , to do?...
is sleep becoming a better option ?... is the forum becoming too restrictive in a way to promote more wider use?... rehashing old threads can only hold so much interest... chatting frivolously is frowned upon.... too many thread starting attempts that bomb get you in trouble....
the rest of the forum areas seem to roll along with all sorts of new topics... yet, road tripping is frowned upon, too...
has "the cat" got hold of aussie tongues?... or are they wagging elsewhere?.... addy?..mmm come on!!!!!...

| the aussie POF forum Posted: 10/14/2009 8:49:35 AM | "I mean if you were sitting at home.."(trying to do that boxy thing Beach..dunno if it's gonna work) Have you been watching me?? I swear ..when I read that..on this Australian forum of course, this song popped into my head...Typing my pain with his fingers...telling my life with his post... Yeah..I know that reading and posting on the forums(Australian forums...of course ) has been ,and continues to be one of the highlights of my day...and it's because of the people on here and ,as you say,the whole interaction.I'm luvin'it!!!I have plenty of mates and outlets for fun but there's something here that I can't get enough of.I can't quite put a finger on it ...the humour, the glimpses into peoples souls ,the chance to participate and communicate on this level is ..rare I think..and priceless. I'm pretty new to this but I hope whatever is going down with restrictions and bans and stuff doesn't kill it because there are already some here who I would miss like lost friends. | |

| the aussie POF forum Posted: 10/14/2009 9:26:21 AM | ^^^the boxy thing. There is a thread you can learn and practise doing quotes, bolding, italics and underlining on http://forums.plentyoffish.com/datingPosts469064.aspx
I have been on the forums, mainly the aussie one, for a few years now. Over time it seems that the same old threads get rehashed again and again. Bans only happen when rules are broken and then usually only when they're broken enough to get annoying. The forum wont fold because of bans. If anything it loses momentum when there has been heaps of rule breaking such as chatting and off topic posts derailing threads and NO bans.

Bans only happen when rules are broken and then usually only when they're broken enough to get annoying. The forum wont fold because of bans. If anything it loses momentum when there has been heaps of rule breaking such as chatting and off topic posts derailing threads and NO bans. I agree with Dime. When I was a newbie, as evidenced by some of those 2 year old posts (fun to write, boring as bat sh1t to read), I thought rules schmules, and tried to beat the system. I got a few short term bans, posting restrictions, photo deletions...now I watch other newbies go through the same process. It's like the rebellious teenage stage. You get to a point where you either sit down and read the site owner's rules (that you actually agree to when you join), and the reasons for them so you understand what they are trying to achieve, and decide to stay on the terms the site owner has set down. Or...you keep pushing it because you think you are above the rules, and end up perma-banned. I chose to learn, and stay. It's a bit like..."I change my mind when I learn I am wrong...what do you do?" (not an exact quote, sorry)
On local forums like this Aussie section, we are given a bit of leeway, and some of the more social interaction between posters is accepted, as long as it doesn't cross a line. A few posts here and there will be overlooked, but if everything you post is just chat...or clearly just posting for the sake of seeing yourself on a page, you'll find yourself gone. The forum is meant to be to share opinions/viewpoints about specified topics, not to chat with each other. And it's not that every post has to be deadly serious either, ya know, light-hearted posts can be on topic and relevant and help a thread keep moving too. Some people confuse light-hearted with chatting. There is a difference.
When you're having a bit of a laugh, and are amongst friends, it's easy to get carried away sometimes, and at times I will suddenly realise I have been bending the rules a bit too close to breaking point. A timely reminder from Dime to check my posting history.
The forum always goes through cycles. Sometimes it's great fun, other times it gets boring. When I start to get bored I usually delete and go do something else for a while, come back later.

"I change my mind when I learn I am wrong...what do you do?" (not an exact quote, sorry)
And so you should be.
"When somebody persuades me that I am wrong. I change my mind. What do you do?"

| the aussie POF forum Posted: 10/15/2009 7:57:27 AM | Its nice to see some of the old crowd are still here! A bit boring if no one is awake to read the threads...I tried finding one about sexual astrology, my sister and I ran last year for awhile. but with the changing rules for threads maybe they deleted it. Well I have to go and try to find the damn website now...cant remember things, must be that I am getting old......Does anyone take any notice of which star sign matches with theirs this year? Must be out of fashion..wonder where pookies gone she might know!! | |

| the aussie POF forum Posted: 10/16/2009 8:51:35 AM | glad this came up {again apparently} for me I guess that since I have nothing better to do on a Friday night while my boy is asleep, I come to POF Aussie forum to live my live vicariously through all of yours... {and it's a great way to put off starting an assignment or tackling a mind numbing writing chore}. Yes, I lurk a LOT... But at least here I can get a decent chuckle... and belly laugh.
at least spending my time here, I can gain and pick up a tidbit here and there... whether it be best form of heating, the definition of separated, to duck, chicken and nude horse riding details... and what to avoid when it comes to 'worst dates' should I ever manage to venture on one.
Oh great, my life really is the pits at the moment isn't it?? lol

| the aussie POF forum Posted: 11/17/2009 4:35:29 AM | how yall r down under? Sorry, I don't speak foreign. Are you meaning to ask, how we all are down under? Well, it happened like this...
You see, if you look at a regular globe of the world, Australia is located quite far South. Like, at the bottom of the map. Hence, we are 'down under' the rest of the countries. Of course, the idea of a 'top and bottom' to our world is only the way we humans make sense of the fact that we are really just bobbing about in Space, and depending on which way you look at the world, from what aspect or from what position in Space one happens to imagine oneself in, we all could be said to be on the top, side or bottom of the globe at any point in time.
I hope that clears things up for you. I know they don't teach stuff like this where you come from.
