Exactly my point earlier...there's not AGREED UPON, 100% definition of tomboy...someone mentioned Halle Berry as tomboy...I just about spit out my water...she sure as sh!t is NOT a tomboy...

Also as with any other type of person there's pros n cons.

Tomboy:

According to dictionary.com:

An energetic, sometimes boisterous girl whose behavior and pursuits, esp. in games and sports, are considered more typical of boys than of girls.

(One of many definitions) According to urbandictionary.com:

A girl who would pick digging up worms and climbing trees in her backyard rather than goin shopping at a mall. Tomboys tend to hang out and get along with boys rather than fellow girls. Tomboys usually get this way from hanging out with brothers/neighborhood boys and their friends or being raised by brothers or males figures of the family. A stereotypical tomboy wears no makeup or jewelry, wears jeans, baseball caps, has scraggly hair, etc. this is not neccesarily true, as many tomboys wear girl/girly stuff. They just dont care what other girls or people think of them. A tomboy who wears girly stuff usual does not cooperate with "normal" girl activities and do stuff that they like to do.

Despite hangin out mainly with boys, a large number of boys find tomboys attractive. Jealous preppy girls often try to spread rumors that tomboys are lesbians, but in all actuality, its the preppy slut who loses because tomboys dont care SHIT about what other think of them and the guys still like them! ;P

Indeed, tomboys are the true individuals of society.

I'm a tomboy. Have ALWAYS been a tomboy. Don't know if I "look" like it or not. I have 4 brothers, played with the 5 neighbor boys growing up and have always gravitated toward males, ie: father instead of mother, brothers instead of (2) sisters, hung out with boys instead of girls, etc. I'm VERY physically active, wear little or no makeup or jewelry (unless maybe for a hot date or special occasion), have worked on cars, replaced/repaired plumbing, push mow the grass, long distance run, hike and bicycle ride, lift weights, etc. The superficial girls (we all know who they are) often are jealous because I get the attention instead of them. I'm still very feminine, sensual and 100% straight. I just prefer to spend my time doing more typically "guy" kind of things.

Thats a great definition

Im the oldest and had to "pave" my own way growing up plus we were broke...so females STRESSING over sillllly things such as scrapbooking, gossiping, nail colors etc etc just didnt and havent interested me . I choose to distance myself from those types otherwise I'd

I lovvvvve a big strong man though and lovvve being his little flower petal..whatever he wants because he's my friend like that

oh & FYI PrinceCC- Im not sure if that was a jab or not but I DONT get wasted. Saying "slammed" a beer was meant tounge & cheek..I take my time, maybe you should take a big shot of "humor"?

Yup, that description certainly captures my attention.

I think I can safely say that 'tomboy' is a highly positive trait in my desired criteria list. I don't seek a partner who encourages me to go play in the wilderness. I seek one who'll join me and be glad she did, maybe even take me places I've never been. (however you want to interpret that...)

I see no contradiction between being physically active with minimal energy put into makeup, jewelry, etc... and being feminine. I'm not drawn to the ornamentation. I'm drawn to the woman. Being eager to spend more time doing the types of things I already enjoy doing means that much more quality time together and more shared values and interests - all very important.

A like minded friend once captured this concept quite well when he coined what he called the "killowatt test for beauty", which simply put is to measure the number of killowatt hours required to transform your lady from how she looks after a two week wilderness trip into being ready to go out to dinner at a fancy restaurant and a play. Lower the number, higher the score.

I guess that's a lot of the appeal. Tomboys tend to be pretty low maintenance and travel light. They are definitely some of the ones more likely to go on a "two week wilderness trip". Cross country bicycle ride, anyone? (Tandem would be fun.) Hike the Appalachian Trail?

I have a 21yo daughter who is somewhat active. I definitely would NOT call her a tomboy. I've always been a tomboy. It's "normal" for me. It's what I enjoy. I come from a family of 9. Even though some of my siblings were active growing up, especially the boys, none of them are as adults. (Neither sister is active or tomboyish.) Seems to me, I was predisposed to being a tomboy, embraced it, was allowed to be super active growing up and still choose it as an adult. Fascinating, really, how children can grow up in the same family and turn out so differently.

(Oh, and I get LOTS of dates, btw.)

Both sound great!

But there's another part of 'low maintenance' that factors in as well, at least for me. There's something about a woman who undergoes a dramatic transformation between how she looks when she wakes up to how she looks when she's ready to face the world that I find disconcerting. It makes me feel like I have to look past the layers of artificial enhancement to see the 'real' woman underneath and creates a 'look but don't touch' effect that doesn't appeal at all.

Certainly there are many men who go for the glamorous look and appreciate all the time devoted to create it, but I'd rather be with someone who spends less time getting ready and thus has more time being ready.

Back to killowatts, I've got a permit for a three week river trip down the Colorado River through the Grand Canyon a year from now. Not an electric outlet in sight. Would sure be a great date for the right tomboy!

Actually wasn't aiming at anyone, I just made that out as a general comment of what I find unattractive, the fact that you felt this was aimed at you though, speaks volumes.

As to the definitions put forth, sure you can find a definition in the dictionary but its like VOLUPTUOUS, no ONE agrees on the same definition (check the thread) so really its kind of useless, what one considers tomboy another doesn't.

If tomboy = doesn't wear much make-up and likes playing sports/being active/working out/does martial arts...then hell yeah sign me up...but to me it hasn't meant that, generally speaking the tomboys i've encountered, (I know i'm gonna get knocked for this, but this is my personal experience) they are almost like guys with boobs and a Vag, burping, farting, tooling with cars, mudding, hunting, fishing, drinking beer, the majority also have not been what many would consider attractive and so on.

As with everything i'm sure there's a degree of tomboyish-ness and it varies from woman to woman. Which I think is also a deciding factor. I mean if you read enough of the answers on here, you'll agree tomboy means something different to everybody.

Sounds like a jock rather than a tomboy. Tomboys I've known are too individualistic to be much into sports, especially where the opposition's just girls.

As for beer-drinking gals, most of the women I know enjoy a pint (and the occasional burp - go, gals!), and they're lacking nothing in attractiveness... but also sadly attached or otherwise unavailable.

The non-girly women you've encountered just aren't representative - let's face it they're not what you look out for or are likely to socialise with, so that's understandable. All the more for the rest of us!

Hike the Appalachian Trail?

Wood nymphs. Damn. Forgot to mention that aspect.

I've got a permit for a three week river trip down the Colorado River through the Grand Canyon a year from now.

Have heard how they allocate most of those permits to the commercial outfits, and how difficult it is for a lone wolf to get on (waiting list is, like, years). Well done! Yeah, the Colorado waves can be huge, usually straight, but the Gauley, imho, is way better, and the New, with a little water in it, is a blast, too.

Hmmmm ....how to keep this remotely on topic.....

Yup, it's been a long wait for this permit. My last trip was in '98. Not a lot of do-it-yourself private permits available, but this will make my seventh trip since '84. I generally aim for 8-10 participants, mix of genders and skills. I think it's safe to say all women participants meet the tomboy test.

As for comparing Gauley, New, and Colorado, that's like comparing sex experiences. While certainly some rank higher than others, I hope no single one stands out as 'best'. I've had 150-1000+ days on each of those three, with memorable magic moments on each. Think of day trips on New or Gauley as great one time experiences, three weeks out of touch with the rest of the world while totally immersed in a constantly evolving Canyon trip as more of an extended relationship.

Great Tomboy experiences all!

boobs and a Vag, burping, farting, tooling with cars, mudding, hunting, fishing, drinking beer, the majority also have not been what many would consider attractive and so on.

THIS tomboy:

boobs: yep, nice ones ;)

Vag: check

farting: nope (at least not in company)

burping: nope (can't even get a good one if I try)

tooling with cars: sometimes

mudding: never been, would go if asked

hunting: no way, am a wannabe vegetarian

fishing: no thanks, unless I go along to hang out

drinking beer: ick, prefer white zinfandel, rum, whiskey or flavored schnapps

attractive: most men think so

Happy being a tomboy.

That depends on alot of factors.
When I was in my late 20's I dated a girl for 5 yrs who was without a doubt the most intriguing woman I ever met.
She and I did the following together....
Hunted, fished, trapped, bailed hay, worked the fields, partied, sat at home, watched sports(her idea not mine....I'm not much of an armchair athlete),went out on the town(she would wear "peasant dresses and no underwear....ULTRA sexy!!!!)rebuilt the motor in my truck a couple of times...she was better at the mechanics part than I was)We swam naked together at midnight in the creek by her house we made love on the shore by the moonlight and we had one **** of a great 4 yrs together.
I loved that little girl more than I can even explain. She actually armwrestled a guy at a local watering hole one night and won....he paid up....she was awesome.
Then she decided she needed to have a baby and at that time I was not ready for that kind of commitment .I take bringing children into this shit hole of a world very seriously and we parted company.
.I will obviously never forget her and her ways but I have never found anyone like her since and I am now in my early 40's.
She was one hell of a shot with a rifle and could fillet a bass for the grill like no body'd business and she loved me with her whole body, heart and mind.We just weren't meant to be together.
I miss her much and yes.....I would absolutely without question date a "tomboy" girl again.
I guess this long winded( and please excuse me I'm feeling kind of sentimental today) answer is a resounding "YES".....I would.

When you're hanging out with a tomboy the cooking duties get shared, don't they? But it's easy on Canyon trips. I go through a local outfitter who quizzes us on our preferences and buys and packs all our food, plus we go through them for any needed gear we don't already have. We all take turns cooking, one day on, two days off, leaving plenty of opportunity for creative off-river activities whether in a tent or up a trail!

But I had a companion lined up for a trip once who I thought wasn't taken until her boyfriend called me, quite irate, just a few days before the trip started. Don't want to go through that again!

Interesting thread you all have there...
Coming from a wallet in the back pocket of her Levi's, motorcycle riding tomboy, I'd have to say that attraction is in the eye of the beholder. I am very independent, and that in itself is a turn off to a lot of men, I don't think it is just the short hair and the adventurous personality. But hey, even this tomboy knows how to glam it up when the occasion arises. I personally don't care whether or not a man wants to date a tomboy, or not. Anyone that refuses to get to know someone based on looks alone is just stupid, and probably missing out on many interesting opportunities! To each his own!

I disagree with the physical part...would you really go up to a person of the opposite sex you didn't find attractive and talk to them and try to get their number...generally speaking no.

do they have to be your vision of PERFECT, no.

Hells, yes, I'd date a tomboy!

Although I don't have a single "type" I'm interested in, I'd have to say that petite, thin, or athletic tomboys probably top my list & generally = RAWR! for me in a big, big way. The vast majority of the girly-girl Barbie clones of the world just don't do it for me & never really did. When I was younger & was just starting to actually pay attention to girls, the short-haired tomboy who did her best to knock the ball out of the park during Phys Ed was waaay hotter to me than the wannabe supermodel who couldn't even be bothered trying to swing the bat for fear of chipping a nail. Years later, I still don't feel that a short haircut & a dislike of flowery dresses negatively affects a woman's femininity in any way. If she watches sports (or better yet, plays them), drops the odd F-bomb, & likes a beer once in a while, I'm putty in her hands!

I might take the attraction a bit too far, though 'cause I've actually found myself attracted to enough short-haired lesbians over the years that I've been known to joke about being a dyke trapped in a man's body. I'm not talking about the butchy ones sporting lumberjack shirts, crewcuts & belt buckles bigger than my head, mind you, but still...

THIS tomboy:

boobs: yep, plenty of boobage

Vag: yep, and works well too!

farting: well, we are all human....but some of us do have some class.

burping: been known to!

tooling with cars: change my own oil and can change a flat tire.....but the rest I leave up to my mechanic!

mudding: My 4 X 4 or yours?

hunting: I've bagged 1 buck and 2 does.....but these days I prefer you kill it......I'll cook it.

fishing: Got my own gear and even bait my own hook! I get a bit "girly" when it comes to cleaning them tho.

drinking beer:not a beer girl.....but I can drink whiskey straight up with the best of 'em!

attractive: in the eye of the beholder, but I definately don't look like a boy!
and I'm told I look just as sexy in my black mini as I do my bib overalls!

I also mow my own yard, trim my own trees, dug my own pond, can plaster a wall, lay tile and just recaulked the tub and put in a new ceiling light. Why? I'm single and I've taught myself how to take care of my things!
Would gladly share all these duties w/ a man!

Happy being a tomboy.

LOL, I'm not a tomboy... I'm a woman. I can shingle a roof, build a deck, cook dinner and suck the paint off a barn wall from 10 paces... I wear full makeup to garden, but will cut the nails for fishing... my tool belt is suede with flowers... I can squat over 200, but look graceful and fragile... I can swear like a longshoreman, but charm the pants off any man... I wear stockings, garters, and skirts, but own a dozen pairs of steel toe boots - leather and suede in various colours and styles - after all, I am woman - wanna hear me roar?

You don't have to look like a dyke to have the soul of a tomboy.
