Been bushwalking since I 15. Never been lost. Have been temporarily misplaced a few times. Overdue more than once as well. But never lost.

Depends what sort of "bush" we are talking about!!

Hillsy, that's naughty, but I like your thinking!

I have walked up the Kamilaroi Walking Track at the Oxley Lookout at Tamworth a few times.

We have had some bushwalkers lost in there and I wondered how it would be possible so went to findout for myself. The track is managed by our local council and poorly maintained and is not always clearly defined in the bush. A few times it took me a tick to get my bearings and I would find a small sign on a tree indicating the way and was right again. I always took my dogs up there for a run and they would tear off into the scrub and turn up again after bailing up some poor animal (not for killing sake just barking sake). I havent been lost in the bush but do take a lot of care when bushwalking.

We have bushwalkers 'go missing' mainly because the people they tell what time they will be returning are out by a day and all hell breaks loose and a full scale search is mounted when we come across the happy campers they are wondering what all the fuss is about really........

I wasn't lost as such, I was bogged. When I was 17, I went for a drive with my G/F her younger sister my younger bother & a friend & we got bogged miles from anywhere. We ended up sleeping in the car overnight. Had the cops looking us & our parent having kittens.
This spot was quite remote about 40 kms outside of Broken Hill, we could have been there for weeks without anybody using that track.

Fortunately I told my dad roughly where we were going so they were searching in the right spot.

Last school holidays I took a trip back to Broken Hill with my G/F her son & my two kids. I decided to try & find this spot, not just because I got bogged there once but because it is a beautiful spot & guess what... I got bogged again. we managed to push the car out this time & decided to walk the rest of the way.

if any of you have ever driven on to a monolith in the bush, and forgotten to break off a piece of tree to mark your trail, you will get lost...... for hours, or was that four hours?

Its not as if you can ask the Policeman driving the car where you are, he had no idea either ( my ex-) and the other cop was from the city, so he was no help either.
It was on Mt Churchman, which is on the mad mans track from Beacon ( in the eastern wheatbelt north of Merredin) part of the shire of Mt Madden, (MM on number plates) part of the Bencubbin police district. to Meekatharra......
All you can see when on the top of this monolith is miles of the tops of trees, no sign of houses or TV masts or anything like that.... the cops had to get out of the car after a while and walk along the base of the rock to see if there were any tyre tracks, showing where we had started..... red faces from being in the sun without a cap too. haha!
we were on our way back from checking out the site of a fatalality ( snake bite) on Bimbidgy Station, a farm stay place where the only communication is the radio, thats used by most isolated stations, inland, works mainly at night when the sun has gone down, because the sunspots interfere with the reception..

It was about 25 years, ago, they probably have satelite communication now..! Just a curiosity trip on my part..
