| Cannot log out out of mail/profile today Posted: 9/10/2008 10:25:20 AM | | I've been having log in issues for a few days. My password is 11 characters long, but recently the form has not allowed me to type past 9 characters. I've reset my IE, cleared cookies and cache, lowered security settings, and tried Firefox, but the issue remains. I've also had my password sent to me by email and it is 11 characters in length, but the password form still won't allow me to type more than a 9 character password. | |

| LOG IN/OUT PROBLEMS/PROFILE PROBLEMS? - Please Read Posted: 9/13/2008 10:33:03 AM | I was on POF last night, did not reboot computer or anything, and this morning, it won't let me in with username or email login. I can get into the forums, but when I try to check my mail it doesn't recognize username or email.
I have email, but can't check it.
I am running Ubuntu Linux with Firefox. The search bar is the Google one that came with FireFox, and I have not updated the browser and it was working fine last night. (how do you remove it under Linux?)

| Cannot log out out of mail/profile today Posted: 9/25/2008 1:44:23 AM | Admin, I'm thinking the problem is the cache directives that you are using on the web pages, and maybe the logic that you are using to kill sessions. I personally have encountered anomolies here and there where something unexpected happened when I clicked.. however, I haven't kept track so I can't tell you specifics. One thing I encountered tonight is when clicking on "Sent Messages", no sent messages were displayed. For the one who is having lots of problems, maybe try a different browser or if you're using Internet Explorer, go to: Tools, Internet Options, "Browsing history", settings, and click on the option that says "Every time I visit the web page". Then click OK till you're out of the "OK's". Restart your browser and try again. Admin, I really think you should extend the session timeout on this site. It's really not working for us. In fact, by the time I finish this conversation, I'm going to have to log back in. I'm pretty sure you've limited the sesson length to conserve on bandwidth or whatever, but it's not making for a good experience for us. Best Regards, Todd | |

| LOG IN/OUT PROBLEMS/PROFILE PROBLEMS? - Please Read Posted: 9/25/2008 11:56:51 AM | | Maybe you are using the wrong username or password? Also, did you change your username and now you are attempting to log in using the old username? I just changed my username and the next time I tried to log in, my old username was in the username box. It 'remembered' me but the old me. I didn't realize this and tried several times unsuccessfully to log in until I realized what was happening. | |

| LOG IN/OUT PROBLEMS/PROFILE PROBLEMS? - Please Read Posted: 9/26/2008 11:02:20 AM | I went to login to my account a week ago and it wouldn't let me. I also searched the site for my username and it was unavailable. Nor could I log into the forums with my username (MattWilcox)
I've just been able to log in with the username "MattWilcox(d8088278)", which I found by doing a forum search for posts I'd made in the past, and that's the result in the header.
That still won't let me into my POF account though.
I also tried re-creating the account with the same details, and it just dies on the second details page. Can anyone recover my account?

Delete both Profiles and create another one.

| LOG IN/OUT PROBLEMS/PROFILE PROBLEMS? - Please Read Posted: 9/27/2008 10:29:11 AM | Thanks for the response, however:
How can I delete a profile if I can't log into it? How can I delete them if POF doesn't even find my username in the site search?
And why did this problem occur in the first place? The only reason I tried registering again is because it no longer let me log in with my original account and a search for my account gave no results (indicating it'd been deleted?).

| LOG IN/OUT PROBLEMS/PROFILE PROBLEMS? - Please Read Posted: 9/27/2008 10:54:02 AM | MattWilcox, did you have to create a new account each time to make the two posts in this thread? I ask because the page that shows your past posts looks very odd. If you haven't made new accounts both times in order to post here then something is definitely messed up, because your forum account should have been deleted at the same time as your profile and that may be what's preventing you making a new profile.
Edit after having a think:
Actually, something definitely is messed up. Even if he made new accounts in order to post, those posts wouldn't be showing up on the same History page as the old posts. It looks like his forum account didn't delete at the same time as his profile.

| LOG IN/OUT PROBLEMS/PROFILE PROBLEMS? - Please Read Posted: 9/27/2008 11:33:28 AM | To answer your question, I've only ever created and/or used one forum account.
This is crazy. I've just created a new POF account with a new username and a new password, and STILL it forgets me almost instantly!
I created an account on POF (not the forum) with the username MattWilcox2, uploaded an image, filled in the quiz. Checked it was working. All hunky-dory. So I sat down and wrote a proper profile... and then had to log-in again to submit the form (time-out I guess). Only I can't log in with the new details either! And, lo and behold, nor does the new profile show up in a UserName search. Both my old profiles under "MattWilcox" and my newly created "MattWilcox2" profile do the same thing - it's as though neither exist.
I've even tried using IE7 in case POF has some sort of issue with FireFox and Safari. No dice.

| LOG IN/OUT PROBLEMS/PROFILE PROBLEMS? - Please Read Posted: 9/27/2008 11:59:59 AM | Ticket to ride: read my replies, it tells you why I'm (still) asking these questions. Don't tell me to read your old post when you clearly haven't read my replies to your own advise. Thanks. To clarify for you:
• POF doesn't find my POF account via a username search - ergo it (they?) don't exist. • My direct URL to the profile doesn't exist. • Just in case, I went ahead and completed the "delete profile" forms anyway. • I created a new account /with a different username/ and it still dies. • I'm getting the welcome email anyway. • None of that tells me why my profile vanished the first time! • In case there was username weirdness I also did a "forgotten password" search via the email address I registered with. The system couldn't find it.
As far as the system is concerned it looks like neither my original profile, nor any subsiquent re-created profile (with the same OR different username) exist.

| LOG IN/OUT PROBLEMS/PROFILE PROBLEMS? - Please Read Posted: 9/27/2008 12:26:14 PM | Your old profile is definitely gone, but no one here can tell you why. They don't have access to that information. When it was deleted it looks like something screwed up, because your forum account should have been deleted at the same time. The fact that it still exists may be the reason why you're unable to create a new account. The system obviously still has some kind of record of you and probably won't allow a new profile to be created because of that.
The only person who can fix the problem is Admin. In order to contact him you need to fill out the help form that Ticket has given you links to. Make sure you mention that you can still access your forum account when you make your report.

| There is nothing to reply to, nothing to figure out. Only the Admin knows why. You can keep asking Questions we have no answers to, | but the Admin does. When you take it to the Help Forms, he can look and resolve your Account Problems. Anything else now is just Blah-blah ...
None of that tells me why my profile vanished the first time! No "Why" is given. There are only Possibilities that the Admin will look at to resolve these Issue. The Point is Resolution, not Reasons. |

| LOG IN/OUT PROBLEMS/PROFILE PROBLEMS? - Please Read Posted: 9/27/2008 12:44:37 PM | OK, thanks guys :)
In that case I shall contact Admin, my bad for assuming the help forum had actual Admin people as opposed to Forum staff. Thanks for your time.
PS - after a lot of digging it looks like the why (which is important so I don't get the problem again) was for having a URL to my last.fm profile in my account. I did not know you couldn't do that.
It's harsh to auto-delete the account for that though - why not hide the profile and inform the user of the problem instead? I'd spent ages writing that profile, and it wasn't backed up :(
Oh well, thanks again. | |
