Anyone ever use coconut oil?

hi... everything that I have read from the sources that I trust say positive things about coconut oil... everything that I have experienced with it has been positive... cold pressed unrefined extra virgin coconut oil, esp from Sunfood Nutrition even if they overcharge for it plus shipping and handling, is still the BEST that I have tried.. blessings for health

3 T is about 350 calories, less that 2 bananas, or about 3 apples.

But is it really more beneficial to be consuming that amount from the coconut oil rather than from lean proteins, fruits and veggies? 350 calories is a sandwich and then some for me... and includes protein, carbs from whole grains, and nutrients from fruits/veggies.

Or is this coconut oil thing another fad diet? Would it help a person who's already a decent weight get ripped or does it only help those who are overweight?

Lets be real, the thermic effect of ingesting coconut oil will not be significant. We are talking 15 kcals here. Thyroid issues should be checked by a qualified doctor for guidance on meds. I'd stay away from "quack science". There's simply no way to guage the amount of T3 or T4 present in the food items you have mentioned.

Do not expect some sort of miracle "cure" or for it to "fix" anything in your diet / physique / health. You most likely will not see anything tangible happen. Vitamins and minerals can just as easliy be obtained from a balanced diet (which should have been priority no.1 anyway).

Anyone ever use coconut oil?

Hi ... I used coconut oil as a part of a naturopathic regimen for a chronic illness for approx. 3 yrs. 2 TBS. a day At first I had no problem taking it as I was in a hurry not thinking , so to speak. But when I was totally aware that it was oil I had to chase it . Coffee worked good to chase it. My thyroid was never affected by the coconut oil. It did speed up my metabolism and cause weight loss !!!! It is a "GOOD" fat.... not a bad one. Good fats are healthy. It has healing properties as well. BUT it may be that it will affect your thyroid... or that it may not be for you.... I am speaking of my own experience. It gives you energy so best to take in the A.M. It's suppose to kill viruses and bacteria too. Cheers !!

I'm hypothyroid (after radioactive iodine treatment). Coconut oil is a part of my life - but not internally. I rub a bit into just shampooed wet hair and use it on my skin, both of which are dry. Wonderful stuff!
