Bad mojo ...... I've had sleep problems all my life, ....getting "old".

| What's the longest you've ever gone without sleep? Posted: 12/13/2005 2:49:25 PM | Sleep deprivation can cause mental illness. It can also lead to physical illness, such as colds, flus, etc. It raises cortisol levels which can lead to the hardening of the arteries. Lack of sleep also diminishes your academic performance, professional performance etc.
In other words you physically and mentally need those 8hrs of sleep a night.

Sleep deprivation can cause mental illness. the other way around. It can cause psychological injury. But, "mental illness" is endogenic, it can't be "caused" by anything other than bad wiring.

| What's the longest you've ever gone without sleep? Posted: 12/13/2005 7:58:40 PM | I was up for... oh,.. I think it was 58 hours working in the architecture studio. I was actually feeling pretty good. I had come to a stopping point on a Friday evening, so I was able to hang out with some of my friends and "zone out" before they made my room mate shut up so that I could sleep.
The following week, I had a total of about 8 hours of sleep, and by the end, I was halucinating. My favorite was when the lines on my drawing shattered and fell off the sheet. Then I blinked, and they were back.

| What's the longest you've ever gone without sleep? Posted: 3/21/2006 10:03:03 PM | For a stretch of almost 4 months I had 2 fulltime jobs and also had no car so I had to bike the 28 kilometers from the 11th line of Hawkestone north of Barrie,On to the south end of barrie.(or thumb it)
If i was biking (most of the time) it i'd leave around 8 pm make it to work around 9:30 and get off work at 7 the next morning then peddle 10 minutes to my next job and work until 5pm then peddle back to where i was staying and i'd be lucky if I got an hour and a half of sleep before i had to get back on the bike again. There was more than a few weeks where i didn't sleep until friday night and would sleep many times right thru until past midnight on saturday and end up being awake all day until i had to go back in on sunday night.
The night shift job was easy and mindless as i was just unloading trucks but the dayshift one was kind of scary as I was operating big industrial punch presses and would start to hallucinate at times I was so tired but I was 23 then and it was honestly safer not spending the time where I was living at the time. I don't think I could do that again but i didn't think i could do it then either although I can still routinely go 40 hours fairly easy.

| What's the longest you've ever gone without sleep? Posted: 3/22/2006 3:32:25 PM | | 119 hours. I was 15 at the time, it was winter, and I was homeless. It was too cold to sleep outside so I walked around the school to keep warm until the janitors opened the doors at 6am, then I'd go in and shower and get ready for class. I remember being in spanish class almost feeling sick like I was on the verge of passing out at every instant, and as hard as I tried to keep my eyes open..focusing!!..I would open them a few moments later realizing that I closed them and wake up in a panic that everyone was looking at me. I don't remember leaving the classroom. | |

| What's the longest you've ever gone without sleep? Posted: 3/22/2006 4:57:06 PM | I went somewhere around 72 hours, probably a little longer. I have a very hard time believing someone could much past that. I was phoning 911 I was so scared. My body was dehydrating from the lack of sleep, my lips where actually cracking and starting to bleed.
It was caused by stress and a disorder.
