| Cats or Dogs Posted: 10/11/2007 8:51:12 AM | I like both Cats and Dogs, but because of full time work it has to be cats (who look after themselves pretty well) (3 cats at present 12, 7 and 4 months).
Remember dogs have owners, cats have staff....

| Cats or Dogs Posted: 10/11/2007 9:02:22 AM | | I'm definitely a dog person. My dog comes to work with me. Cats are ok but I hate the way they kill the birds and other wildlife. Apparently the UK wildlife is being decimated because of the huge rise in the domestic cat population. I know it is natural to them. That doesn't mean I have to like it and my garden is therefore a cat free zone. I think cat owners who care about nature have a responsibility to take preventative measures to hinder their cats from killing. Ways to do this were covered in The One Show on BBC 1 recently. | |

| Cats or Dogs Posted: 10/11/2007 11:40:52 AM | I have two cats and a dog...they are all as nutty and neurotic as their owner.
One of my cats, comes in through my bedroom window in the early hours and wakes me up to be let out again. Why he can't come in throught the kitchen window (which is open 24/7) is beyond me. The other one lives in my sons bedroom, only to come out to eat and whatever, then goes back up there. She also won't drink water from anywhere except a running tap!
The dog..rescue dog..Used to jump out of my window and try to get in any car that happened to have a door open. Now, as a treat, we sometimes let her sit in my sons car for half an hour or so if shes good lol the dog is afraid of the cat that lives in my sons room.. cat #1 hates cat#2 with a vengence. Do I have a problem? Are my pets the weirdest? Should I leave home?

Me too Blue...
When i got the email i looked and having owned both dogs and cats... it is so bloody true!!
i got my cat from the Blue Cross 3 weeks ago and he is the first i have owned since being a child. He is a four year old, black and white long haired pyjama case.
'He may be a little hesitant coming out of the carrier' Bullsh*it!!! He was straight out and onto the sofa, like 'this is my new spot'
'He may not eat for a couple of days' Bulls*it!! hasn't stopped eating since he got here
i told him he was not allowed in my bedroom and shut the door... Lil sheister can open doors....!
he does what he wants , when he wants and if he wants! Sometimes he will even let me sleep on my side of the bed!!!
but i wouldnt swap him for the world....

A Chihuahua called Oscar Wilde with no teeth and a very bad temper, and a cat with no tail called felix, who sits on your face when your asleep, not nice

| Cats or Dogs Posted: 10/11/2007 2:21:01 PM | 'pyjama case'

| Cats or Dogs Posted: 10/11/2007 3:42:24 PM | Hi
I have two cats who are just gorgeous! Easier to look after, much more affectionate, and relatively self- caring. Cats are much more independant too!

I like dogs but am definitely a cat person. I had 2 until the start of the week, had to put my oldest cat (he was 13) to sleep on Monday after he was run over
I'd like to have a dog, but it's not fair on the animal as I work full time, maybe when I retire. I'll be like one of them mad old women with a house full of cats and dogs!

| Cats or Dogs Posted: 10/11/2007 4:23:27 PM | I have both - a silly GS , still very much a pup at 14 months and a 7 yo ginger cat who owns the flat and keeps the dog in line.
One day going to live out in the sticks, away from all people and keep ducks, chickens, horses, dogs, cats etc. All of them will have a name and none will ever be kille to be eaten

| Cats or Dogs Posted: 10/11/2007 4:27:19 PM | | I prefer dogs, cats are possessed little fur balls. You're never quite sure with cats if they're gonna jump you or come close for a snuggle. | |
|
| Cats or Dogs Posted: 10/11/2007 4:31:23 PM | | I have a dog that's a great protector and very placid until he meets other dogs. I have 2 cats that are the best because they're hardly home and when they are all they want to do is snuggle next to me. | |

| Cats or Dogs Posted: 10/11/2007 4:37:49 PM | Definately a dog lover.
But Kate_Wales, I just want to say sorry to hear about your cat.
My mam and dad's dogs (14 & 12) were taken to the vets earlier this year and it is totally heartbreaking.
We've now got 3 dalmatian's and my mongrel between us (2 each).

Well said, I think the photo's of my b1tches, on my profile are stunning, and go to prove breeding does produce elegance, beauty and a reserve not found in many ..

| Cats or Dogs Posted: 10/12/2007 9:40:20 AM | I work at a sheltered housing scheme. It was an uphill battle to be allowed to bring my dog to work but she is officially allowed now. The tenants love her and are forever bringing her squeaky balls and biscuits! She has brought more people into the community area and the death rate (maybe coincidental, maybe not) has gone down. Where I used to work before, there was one resident with suicidal tendencies and another who would periodically 'lose it'. Sending in my dog always saved the situation. | |

| Cats or Dogs Posted: 10/12/2007 9:45:34 AM | My girl has just been to a grooming parlour and looks goergous Will probably only last a day till she meets her dog mates but.... LOL She loves everyone and feels/reacts as being on guard only when needed.
Pity so many parents make their kids scared of dogs and in such a wrong way - lost count of the times I have witnessed parents with kids screaming/running/waving hands in the air at a sight of a dog.
Every kid should have "a" pet - teaches them responsibility, even just a goldfish ;)

| Cats or Dogs Posted: 10/12/2007 9:49:00 AM | I love both but my dogs love me more than my cat. I love the way dogs will give you unconditional love but I also love my cat's independence and her naughtiness if she doesnt want to do as I say. | |

I am not surprised the death rate has fallen. Dogs and cats have been proven to be very therapeutic for a lot of people. Especially the elderly. My mum is a retired warden who still visits many of the old folk she used to warden for. She takes her dog, a rescued greyhound, and they all love her.
There is i think an organisation call pets as therapy or something like that. The owners take their animals to various types of homes and visit the elderly or the handicapped for example., to brighten up their day.
Its nice the battle to have your dog with you has benefited not only you and the dog, but the community around you.
Good for you hun. | |
