| Cats or Dogs Posted: 10/12/2007 4:39:56 PM | I would love a dog but i travel a lot with my job, so i have two cats instead.
When i am away my next door neighbour feeds them and they have taken to sitting on her door step at "tea time".
My mum has a dog and he's too cool for school and we have a company dog. She's a Schnauzer and belongs to the CEO's PA. She sleeps under the desk and wanders down to customer services if her mum is in a meeting. She has her own profile on the company web site and when my boss goes into her office Pheobe (the dog) stands and growls at him and he stands and growls and barks back!
It's really funny when we have new clients on the first floor and half way through the meeting Pheobe barks because you can see them thinking "Was that a dog?"

| Cats or Dogs Posted: 10/12/2007 4:45:12 PM | | I also would love to have a Dog. But working shifts,i feel kicking it anger in line with my shifts would only confuse it. I reckon getting a small pet like a Hamster that i could squeeze in my pocket everytime i'm pissed off would be more appropriate. | |
|
| Cats or Dogs Posted: 10/12/2007 4:55:22 PM | | I prefer cats as it's far easier to pull their legs off | |
|
| Cats or Dogs Posted: 4/12/2008 2:56:03 PM | I'm a cat person definately, not that i dont link dogs, but they need so much more of you than cats. like you couldnt go away for the nite leaving your dog, but you can leave a cat.
Also as cats are more independent, when they come to you and show affection its more out of wanting to than needing to.

| Cats or Dogs Posted: 4/12/2008 3:05:58 PM | | I live in the countryside and would love to keep a dog However to be single and working means that I think it unfair to keep an animal at home . It has been suggested that a a cat would be an option and a litter tray would be all that it needs However I prefer my house not to smell of cat faeces and Urine therefore a cat is definitely out of the equation. | |
|
| Cats or Dogs Posted: 4/12/2008 4:12:39 PM | I don't have a litter box, because i have a garden. The cats have thier own cat flap and come and go as they please.
Apart from a cuddle when they choose to have one they are very independant. I would have thought that whilst you may need to start with a litter box first, if you live in the countryside then once they have had thier vacinations etc and are a bit older then they could go outside to attend to calls of nature?

| Cats or Dogs Posted: 4/12/2008 4:26:18 PM | Both - have one of each, love them both for different reasons.
Cat was 6 yo when I got a dog, took them a bit to get on as cat hated that big fury creature getting close to him and wanting to play but.... we got there.
Photo of both blisfully happy (on my bed) as a proof - in my profile LOL

| Cats or Dogs Posted: 4/13/2008 8:28:20 AM | I am definitely a' dog person', I love them!
Cats I can't stand! They sh*t in my garden, scratch your furniture, fight and yowl at all times of the night, leave grit wherever they walk in the house and, whatever others may think, I believe they are filthy animals, and yet their owners think they are wonderful!
On top of that they kill hundreds of millions of wild birds and mammals every year. I am well aware that cat owners will say that a cat is an animal and it's instincts are to kill so it's only acting upon it's instinct. Well a dog's instinct is to kill as well but what a furore there would be if I let my dog kill the neighbour's cat!
Dog owners are legally responsible for their animal's actions. Cat owners don't give a toss about their animal's actions. Try complaining to a cat owner that their animal has kept you awake all night or has desecrated your garden or killed your fish and you'll get a look that says "So what?"

| Cats or Dogs Posted: 4/13/2008 11:03:21 AM | I love all animals.... I have always adopted from the humain society....but, I had a feemale collie mix.. I lived in the country...and in the fall the kids go back to school and thats when people from the big cities would frive to tthe country and dump their unwanted child`s pet.... One day my collie mix brought home a big great Daine mix...he was so big and very friendly.... but my border collie said no way !!,...theres no room at the inn for two boy dogs...so he chased him off to the neighbours...they took it in.... as it was, one day the house caught fire and he woke the people up !!!..... My neighbour at the farm use to do a lot of work on cars etc...he left a bucket of ant-freeze or radiator coolent... in his shop...the small dog got into it and it poisoned it...they had to put the dog to sleep .... it was a very sad day.... I had many windows in my farm house with an open plan ,,,with 8****teils in a big cage...one night a hawk or an owl flew by the window . it was a full moon..the****teils took a fit and finally thecage door burst open, all got out and I woke up with a terrible start as I had 3 cats and two dogs... I ran around with a towel and caught most , my border collie was helping by pinning the bird`s wing to the floor....I would just throw a towel over the bird... he had to be the smartes dog I have ever known... One day in the wood shed, I saw a huge rat.. I called the dog...he jumped into the shed, planks and wood went flying all over the place !!!...he killed a whole family of rats in just 5 minuites !!!....... He loved the couch to sleep on...always on his own towel...I use to go over and say ,..." are you tired little doggoie ??...". he would roll his eyes all the way back into his head , the eyes were just the white of his eyes....and he`d let out a big sigh !!!... I was told that boy cats peeing on your house can be very dangerous top certain pregnant women !!,...... it causes them to have a miss carrage... do`nt know how true... Well thats it...I know I talk too much !!! ..... May the big guy updstairs bless all your pets.... | |

| Cats or Dogs Posted: 4/13/2008 11:17:15 AM | OK goldcard we get the message, you don't like cats!!!!!!
Until two years ago my cats were very much house cats and then i moved and got a house with a garden. My cats only use thier own garden as they don't like going further afield (due to being previously house cats). I have only ever had one "present" and that was a live mouse that i rescued and set free again. And my house is grit free and clean thank you very much!!!
Oh and they use the scratching post when they want., and at night they are curled up in thier hammocks in my bedroom sleeping. Just wanted to point out that to generalise about ALL cat's and cat owners is a bit over the top. Take a chill pill mate

Would you accept a human entering your garden and desecrating it ? Would you accept a neighbour popping over your fence and stealing your fish ? Would you accept a neighbour keeping you awake with noise ?

| Cats or Dogs Posted: 4/13/2008 3:03:27 PM | My friend has theory that control freaks do not like cats because they do what they want and are independant. They like dogs because they are subservient and do as they are told. I tend to agree with her.
Dogs are a generally neurotic and needy. They smell. They need walking and are general pain in the arse. I cannot abide dog hairs on my clothes. I like dogs but in small doses.
Cats i adore. You have to earn their love. Despite what people say, they are very loyal. Treat them bad and they'll not come back to you - a dog will, but then dogs are not very bright. Well, not compared to your average cat.
|
| Cats or Dogs Posted: 4/13/2008 3:23:23 PM | I love both and have owned both, Dogs can be a pain in the arse though as much as I loved my dogs I didn't enjoy having to clear their poop from the garden, wet dog smell, and clearing up the mess they would make....My cat is my baby I hand reared him as a feral kitten as a result he is loyal but independant I can go out and not worry, its easy to get someone to pop in and feed him if I go away. Hes a house cat so has a tray but thats the only down side, oh and he moults quite a bit.
Like me love my cat....any man who hates cats won't even get my number let alone a date, If they aren't keen on them but willing to tollerate then thats fine.

| Cats or Dogs Posted: 4/13/2008 3:41:34 PM | | Two siamese cats. One is sweet, sleek and gorgeous and the other one is a bloody nuisance (curled up on my lap as I type this). For those who have talked to me on the phone, she is the yowler. | |

You poor thing! I never have any problems like that because:-
My cats chase other cats out of my garden
I taught them to use a scratching post when they were kittens
Well, we all yowl a bit a night (hopefully) dont we?
'Leave grit wherever they walk in the house?' I think you might be scraping the barrel a bit for excuses with that one! - a small footbath and toweling doormat in the porch might help.
One of my cats is an excellent mouser, with the occasional rat kill. Living in the country I dont have to worry about any little intruders as the cats will get them. I DO get upset when they (rarely) kill a bird ... Although I managed to train a previous Siamese not to touch birds, one of mine (the mouser) is quite ruthless though. It's really difficult to teach a cat to discriminate!

| Cats or Dogs Posted: 4/14/2008 5:42:32 AM | | i love both. i have a ginger tom called loki who is 1 year old and well named as he is always up to mischief and a 3 year old sprocker spaniel called bailey we also have just got a new pet a chinese hamster called billy whizz bob after our other hamster sir rodney snowball died | |

| Cats or Dogs Posted: 4/14/2008 5:47:59 AM | From an ex dog breeder I have to say I prefer cats lol I bred English bull terriers with my ex for a few years and they are wonderful loving dogs but hard work, need so much walking and their pee ruins your grass and I cant stand picking up poo. My persian on the other hand is sooooooo loving, you only have to step near her and shes purring away, always wanting a seat on your lap and so affectionate with the children.. goes out to play and buries her poo so all round alot less work lol. | |
|
| Cats or Dogs Posted: 4/14/2008 5:55:23 AM | i definately prefer dogs even though they need alot more attention than cats , we have 4 dogs , 3 japanese akitas and a staffy , my partner used to breed them and we are thinking about going back into it again , they are gorgeous dogs and very well trained but do take up alot of time , | |
