| | are you glad the hippies have gone?Page 6 of 7 (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7) | | We're still here, we are always still here within each generation. We are the dreamers and artists. I lived in Northern California for a while, my daughter was born there. I still go to waterfalls and concerts every chance I get. I still seek out individuals to talk about social issues and the ways of the universe. We are the ones the soccer moms don't get, but we hide in plain site all around. Think the hippies are gone? Google Burning Man... | |

What makes you think that 'hippies' are gone? Have you looked at the 'Occupy' crowds or the people in the White House? Duuuuuuuuuuuuude ... buy a clue.

| are you glad the hippies have gone? Posted: 6/29/2012 11:27:50 AM | I'll give a stab at the definition... To be hip to something, aware, in the know, loving all. African term. Deep seated in all of us if we care to open up to it. A hippy is hip to what's going down but holds onto the values that look after everyone and the planet. A hippy rejects personal gain at the expense of others, looks after the earth and shares in the bounty without greed. Hippy's express love and accept love without a hidden agenda = true free love. Freedom of expression, the love of nature, helping individuals prosper on their path, healthy relationships and raising healthy and aware children is what is best for all, so they are active in these things. They are "in touch" with what is really important and reject the superfluous.

| are you glad the hippies have gone? Posted: 6/29/2012 1:28:29 PM | | I'd like to think that some of the qualities the hippies seemed to have are still around - open minds, open hearts, will share what they have, support charities, support gay marriage, support freedom of choice, seem mellow with the world, try their best to be at one with mother nature, well read, educated, non religious, liberal thinking and still give hugs freely as well as a host of other character traits. You can bet they aren't tea baggers or voting republican. | |

| are you glad the hippies have gone? Posted: 6/29/2012 1:40:47 PM | "You can bet they aren't tea baggers or voting republican." So true,,,, Everybody I know would get fired if they took a few weeks off to protest. Makes it tough for us to be seen and heard as a group. We're busy working, being responsible, paying for everything that the protesters demand. | |

| are you glad the hippies have gone? Posted: 6/29/2012 2:34:32 PM | GT- I believe it is irresponsible of you to cow tow to the criminals, also very cowardly. If what you do worked for change, there would be no need to protest. Maybe it's you that should join the group and quit peddling b.s.
Or can't you afford "time off". If not? why not?
I'd rather spend my time off at the ocean, not in the streets.

| are you glad the hippies have gone? Posted: 6/29/2012 2:58:28 PM | Out here by the beach in Vancouver, Canada, there doesn't seem to be any shortage.
I know people who still live on quiet little "neo-communes" in the countryside and on the Islands.
And lots of people still have love, tolerance, and hair. ED BEAR

Go there and it's like you stepped back in time: dreadlocks, tie dye, hemp sandals, hand painted VW buses, the whole deal. Someone even organizes weekly town square protest marches over... whatever.
As someone else mentioned- Burning Man, which I am not into but I enjoy my daughter's photos. I went to a secret all-night desert rave once and had a stunningly wonderful time.

I, too, have an aversion to (mentally) lazy shites.

| are you glad the hippies have gone? Posted: 7/1/2012 12:34:27 PM | Msg 133 - My dad taught me that if I wanted a car, to work for it. If I wanted a better paying job, to work for it. If I want a better lifestyle , to work for it.
My kids live in a nice house and have plenty of food, etc. ,,, because I WORK FOR IT ! That's the kind of "change" my dad was talking about. Yeah, I know, it's not so cool to put your nose to the grindstone day after day. Nobody writes stories about "us" or puts our picture on TV. We just keep on keeping on. Kind of funny that the 10% who don't work should get more attention than the 90% that DO work, but it's OK, we're used to it.

Posted: 7/2/2012 8:32:02 PM | hmmm I am pretty sure they turned over their "leaf" and are now the ones running our country into the proverbial ground they once worshipped. So very true. The mantra in the 1970's SF Bay Area (the hippie center of the universe) was that the government is out to control and you'd better watch out for Big Brother and The Man is the root of all evil.
Those hippies now are all for big government giving them everything they need and more power to Big Brother. I guess all that bad acid helped them buy into the propaganda. Peace, love and bath salts and gimme gimme gimme my free contraseptives, obama stash and health care.

His life has been devoted to keeping rich people from paying taxes since long before he founded the Canadian Taxpayers' Foundation to further the cause. ED BEAR

I didn't notice any old hippies voting for the Patriot Act, surveilence of citizens, torture, renditions and two bankrupting wars. Mostly the charge was led by and voted for by old chickenhawks and their spawn. Too much alcohol, coke, and acid reflux.
