I hadn't heard about the "trash the dress" thing until a few days ago. I was checking out some of a friend's photography on F-book and saw one.

It was an actual wedding photo, not a divorce.. but it showed the bride face down in a stream floating. It was beyond creepy.

Perhaps it is in some way cathartic for the former bride? Sure beats going out and getting blitzed or picking up a one night stand.

ON THE OTHER HAND. There's a lot to be said for turning lemons in to lemonade.

I can think of a lot more productive things to do with a wedding dress...donate it to a good cause or something. There are all sorts of places which take formals and gowns to pass on to others who cannot otherwise afford it, or just someone thriftier. I once ran a glass slippers project where we provided formal wear to HS girls who could not otherwise make their proms, etc.. Wedding dresses can be dyed if they did not want it white...but we had some beautiful donations that were used just as they were.

How much better it is to turn your bad memory or misgivings into someone elses boon. Talk about pay it forward.

People do some amazing things.

I guess women buy these WHITE dresses to feel like a VIRGIN PRINCESS???
I wish there was a website that displayed wedding photos of white dresses being worn by pregnant women at the church! hahahahaha.....

Ok... Back on topic.

Why not donate these dresses to a shop where maybe a REAL virgin would be able to use them without paying big bucks for a dress? Maybe then some poor people would find a great dress and look nice for their mate.

To me this is as wasteful as a Hollywood couple with a 5 year old with a 2 million dollar wardrobe!

To me this is sick! But maybe I think of other people who might be able to use something that someone else doesn't want anymore. All this Recycle and Reuse Education push! You can't teach people!
I look at the women and think.. Oh forget what I think... Probably most of the women will disagree with my view anyway....

Seems like a collossal waste of money. My friend wants to do this once her divorce is finalized.

Just goes to show the increasing bandwagon mentality of people out there.
They'll do just about anything that they THINK other people will admire them for, no matter how silly or counterproductive.

I wonder how they immortalize their lost virginity? Oh wait...they have surgery that will reverse that now. I hear it makes for a much more expensive wedding dress the next time around - still white, of course!

my older brother is a professional photographer and offers 'trash your dress' options for the wedding packages that he books... apparently it's popular amongst some couples for after the ceremony, maybe it's saying that they won't need that dress again because this marriage is forever...

maybe...

I don't know about you, but I actually think these newly divorced women are doing it for the attention- being made up, then having special photographs taken of you "glamour style". Attention seeking...

I was very happily married and in love, and trashed my wedding dress after it got water damaged from the Hurrican Wilma flood of 2005.
Now that im widowed i wish i hadnt, though.

But yeah, tacky. Just toss it without ceremony if ya dont want it around.
