| is it sin to be a Wiccan? Posted: 7/14/2005 9:59:38 AM | hooo boy cant believe I missed this thread.. man I gotta start coming here a little more often
*clears throat*
To be guilty of sin first means that you have to believe in Sin... now as far as I know there is no meaning to the word in the Wiccan beliefs..
we do believe in however
1) Do as you wish but do not harm anything or interfere with the free will of others 2) That whatever you do in life will come back to you times three (as to the laws of threefold/Karma) 3) abide by the laws of nature and have respect for what has been created
(if any other wiccans care to contribute to this go right ahead!)
now with that said I dont see where Sin and damnation comes in.. just becuase we share differant views does not mean that we are differant human beings we definatly have differant personalities but we have to live with each other on the face of this earth.. I have learned how to deal with the preachings of sin and damnation and even with the christians coming around to "try an save my soul" my soul is safe.. it has been for many lifetimes or I wouldnt be here today.. I have my belief.. Iwill leave you to yours

| is it sin to be a Wiccan? Posted: 7/14/2005 10:06:32 AM | That is all so grovie and your right that is going along the lines of the Bible but in order to be certain one needs to read the Bible to understand who created you and why you were created for he has a purpose for you and when you understand that then you'll see how well these beliefs are to what God says'
Not some religion not just someone but God who created everything. Can you hear the trees and the birds singing Holy Holy Holy the Lord is coming?

| is it sin to be a Wiccan? Posted: 7/14/2005 10:30:14 AM | | Well,Dei, since I am disabled and can't drive, why don't you get off your bloody ass and do some research? Or ask a Catholic priest? Darn, that requires Effort on your part, doesn't it? It's much easier for you to sit there and spew toxic waste from your mind to the net. Start with Maccabees. There, I gave you a little clue. | |

Here again I see smoochie has an cathlic background that's too bad for that Bible is not of TRUTH. please get the KJV and look into it for it contains great wisdom and truth and it has been verified throughout history as being accurate. Its historical accounts are flawlessly accurate. In fact, archaeology routinely demonstrates the accuracy of the biblical records concerning locations and events recorded in the Bible.

| is it sin to be a Wiccan? Posted: 7/14/2005 11:26:36 AM | bon-bon...................................................... Those are Historical writtings hat Jewish scholars in Egypt did not agree what books sjould be included in the official list of Scriptures, even though a canon was being agreed upon by another group of jewish scholars in Palestine. For example, some of the Egytian scholars would allow only documents written in Hebrew or Aramic ( a Semitic language similar to Hebrew). Other Greek-speaking Jews included documents originally written in Greek (some of them from as late as the first century A.D.) These Greek writings included:
Historical writings: 1 Esdras (a Greek version of Ezra in the Hebrew Bible, with some additions); Judith, Tobit, 1-4 Macabees and
Poetis and prophetic writings and wisdom and tales: Sirach (sometimes xcalled Ecclesiasticus); Wisdom of Solomon, Baruch, Letter of Jeremiah, Susanna, Prayer and the song of the three Young Men and Bel and the Dragon.
Aside form these documents, there were also additions to the Greek translation of the Hebrew book of Esther that was made in the second and first centuries B.C.. And some of the tales listed above were added to the Greek translation of Daniel.

| is it sin to be a Wiccan? Posted: 7/14/2005 3:18:44 PM | Bon-Bon, I wouldn't even respond. Dei feels that it is his place to come here to "enlighten" and "save" all non-Christians. Actually, he'd like to save anyone with an original thought. That said, he actually invests "time" into people like you that he thinks he can "save," giving you quote after quote from the Bible until something "reaches" you. For the love of all that is good, just ignore him. Or laugh and shake your head. Otherwise, it's offensive.
(see what he did to me? I USED to be tolerant of other people's views... now I"m tolerant of everyone's views but his. Not only are they wildly out of whack, but they're often mean ~ see other threads for this.) Better to just turn away now and run. Fast.

| is it sin to be a Wiccan? Posted: 7/14/2005 7:42:29 PM | Actually, Nittany...Dei is following what his faith requires of him; To spread the word of his god to others. But you knew that already...he's not being mean.
Bon-Bon...a new thread for the "other" faiths is a great idea; however, every time they start...the "normal" religions try to ruin it by creating huge debates and trying to convert everyone......lol
Is it a sin to be Christian? No one has actually proven that the bible is the TRUTH, so they might actually be the ones that are wrong....maybe being Christian is a sin....?
(Now everyone attacks me, I bet, lol)

| is it sin to be a Wiccan? Posted: 7/14/2005 7:47:29 PM | | Yes, Nittany, you make a good point. I simply responded in kind to the demeaning and sarcastic manner in which youknow who sniped back at me. I spent months taking catechesm from a very good catholic priest, who always could answer my spiritual questions, and of course protestant christians don't want to recognize their teachings, and SHHHH ... let's not mention that the catholic church was around way before people took it into their own hands to defy revelations, which warns not to add, or take away a word of their bible. You know, kings who wanted to divorce their wives, etc. Jesus was branded as a heretic and killed by his own because he would not tolerate their corrupt behavior, and he hung out with society's outcasts, who needed him more than the higher ups. Were he walking the earth today, I believe he would show outrage at all the hypocrites waving their little"I'm the only one who's right" banners, be found under the bridges with the homeless, with those stricken with aids, today's untouchables. And when he gathered a following, the hypocrite's (Depart from me, for I never knew you... "but lord, didn't we do this and that in your name?") would be threatened again, and do away with him in some manner. It's the hell business that finally did me in. And the God loves you, but watch your back, cause you're going to hell in a handbasket because you can't be the church's definition of perfect. Give me Mother Earth and the Divine Force, God and Goddess, and Light instead of the dark hypocrisy I saw every week, and I was a convert, so I have, out of reaching out spiritually for meaning, visited churches of many religions. Same mentality, different buildings. Mother Earth and The Air Element Sky are my church. A glorious little flower growing out of some crack in the concrete, it's perfection and beauty, that's enough to make me happy and closer to all life. You pull one thread of it, and find it is a tapestry that is all connected. This money driven society has disassociated people from everything else, and they feel nothing when they bulldoze trees and living things to make another building or parking lot. No, thanks. Oh, yeah, I do use my disabilty parking permit when my caregiver can take me places; I just need less parking lot. Frankly, a few paths would do it. Okay, end. lol! BB | |

| is it sin to be a Wiccan? Posted: 7/14/2005 7:58:18 PM | | Well, Garf, I don't know how I missed the "Thou shalt be an enormous pain in the ass to everyone who doesn't agree with you", lol! I do however remember St. Francis of Assissi saying, "Spread the faith, when necessary, use words" Could he have possibly have meant to practice the loving virtues, so that people would see that a christian is good, instead of taking cheap shots and being terminally annoying, so that those who don't believe as he does want to get as far away from his "faith" as possible? | |

That reminds me of a newspaper article that I read in the mid-eighties about this priest that was in China, and in order to maintain the churches' funding; he had to induct a certain number of followers. To do this, he went to the roof with a firehose, and sprayed a crowd below, while blessing the hose and giving a mass baptism. The church stayed open. The people down below had no clue what was happening. They did not know they had just been converted from a millenia-long faith, to Catholicism. Bad priest; two hail Mary's and a slap in the face.
For some reason; I can't find this online....I tried.

| is it sin to be a Wiccan? Posted: 7/16/2005 11:18:36 AM | The the two greatest commandments are: Thou shalt love the Lord, thy god, with all thine heart, all thy mind, and all thy spirit. Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself.
all of the law and the prophets hang on these. In the church and by the power of the Holy Ghost, the spirit of God ministers unto a believer so that the law is written on one's heart. Is following Wicca or witchcraft, obedience to the commandment to love God? Do Wiccans worship another god?
|
| is it sin to be a Wiccan? Posted: 7/16/2005 11:36:53 AM | It really depends.
The christian faith, seems to have tried to deffine what god is, and how to worship it. If the Christian faith is correct, then wiccans violate those commandments.
If however, Christianity is not correct in its deffining God (being that God is to be without limit, the act of deffinition may very well be counter productive) than pagans look more to different 'facets' of God, under different names, but still look to God.
Its like the blind men describing the elephant. One touches the leg, and says the Elephant is like a tree. One touches the trunk, and says the Elephant is like the snake. One touches the body, and says the Elephant is like the rock. All are correct, yet have very different views.

| is it sin to be a Wiccan? Posted: 7/17/2005 9:18:22 PM | Somehow I've managed to miss this thread and I will most certainly go back and read all the previous posts but from this page alone one question popped into my mind: Seeing as there is a very specific part of this forum dedicated to "Religion" which I would assume most members to read as "Christian" why do "they" feel the need to infect every single discussion in here with their judgemental and hateful brand of hypocrisy? Perhaps we should join forces and stage a mass "post-in" on their holier than thou threads?
This is assuming that this isn't already a part of the Religion section.....Hmmm some quick research is required here.
D'oh....rats! I still like the idea.

| is it sin to be a Wiccan? Posted: 7/17/2005 9:27:37 PM | OMG....three pages in and I've seen enough. It is a "sin" to stay in this section of the forum for one moment longer...wtf was I thinking?
As a final comment as I run screaming from this madhouse....Of course it is not a sin to be a Wiccan....sin and Wicca do not co-exist. The OP has one foot in each world and has to make a choice. In the minds of those who believe in the Bible, of course Wicca is a sin....in the minds of those who revere nature and balance, there is no sin.

| Is It Sin To Be Wiccan ????? Posted: 7/18/2005 11:09:20 PM | Spiritual Judgemant of others is Barbarric. How many wars have been started over history because of Spiritual Judgemant?????
Is it Sin to be Wiccan ?
If believing in the Golden Rule and the logic of "Harm None", Knowing that you are part of a Universal Energy, which permiates every living being on this planet, we call Mother Earth. Is a Sin ? I guess I am guilty !!!!! Now a misinformed uneducated Wiccan can be shamefuly sinfull at times just like an uneducated, misinformed , gospel ranting Christian. Anything in excess is sinful............. That just might be why we as human beings have many different Religions or Traditions.....possibly could it be that we are here to learn from each other, to questions our Spirituality ??????? To expand and grow as a Spiritual being, I Wonder!!!!! SmoochiePooches

Unfortunatly your right, I judged the first timothy Gosples rather harshly. It only goes to serve as proof that what works for some may not work for everyone. "to expand and grow" This is certaily something I've done in a big way since comming to POF. I understand terms better for one of many things. It's helped me get a better grasp on my art. And broaden my horizens into the Faery and Druid paths.
I dont think its as much a barberic thing as it is a need to understand us. Granted it can be...aggrevating at times. So all we can do is answer the questions put to us in our own threads or out of them to best of our abillities. In hopes that someday the beauty of diversity will be seen again...
You guys are in big trouble now! Big Sissys here to save the day ;)
