| Do women cook anymore? Posted: 7/8/2007 9:04:07 AM | | Lots of us women still cook! Even though I don't have a s/o I cook 3 meals a day, and desserts, bread and all. When I was in a relationship, I liked to make his favorite special meal for him. There's so much convenience foods nowadays, and with people working long hours etc, I think lots of people just get out of the habit. I don't buy convenience foods with the exception of keeping some for when I get snowed in and can't get to the store, I prefer making everything from scratch. If my s/o helps me in the kitchen once in a while, it's a plus as it draws you closer...warm fires can be started by more than the stove. jmo | |

| Do women cook anymore? Posted: 7/8/2007 10:21:48 AM | | i *can* cook, and *would* cook if it were for someone else. i enjoy doing things for others, even if it's as simple as making dinner. i just don't cook for just myself. i find myself too busy to care about making myself a fantastic meal. | |

| Do women cook anymore? Posted: 7/8/2007 1:16:16 PM | I love to cook but don't bake much as I find it's messiness more difficult to deal with. Receiving friends or family over for a good meal mixed with great conversation is one of my favourite things to do. Mind, you, I also love it when it's reciprocated. OPF or other people's food, as I call it, is in my book great love to be having! ;-) | |

| Do women cook anymore? Posted: 7/8/2007 2:08:55 PM | I am one of those women who are guilty of not cooking. Now, don't get me wrong. I can cook almost anything with the exception of grits. That's the only thing I burn. I just can't get the hang of it. I can bake from scratch. When I married my first husband, I cooked like any good Southern woman would. I made sure everything was prepared perfectly. I took great pains with my cooking. I made sure that my husband was well satisfied with my cooking. Then I got divorced and cooked once a week. I married again and gave the second husband the same culinary treatment as the first, then divorced him.
Then my mom had to move in with me after she had her stroke, she did all the cooking, taught my daughter how to cook--she's an EXCELLENT cook. My oldest son took a culinary course in high school, I taught my youngest how to use the microwave, make eggs and bacon, spaghetti and voila everyone can now fend for himself or herself. I don't have to cook anymore. My mom now lives in the house with my brother and I am now responsible for my meals.
Since everyone works (except my youngest who's with his father for the summer) I don't have to cook. Now don't get me wrong, when I cook, I cook in an old fashioned, healthy way. When I bake an apple pie, I make the pie crust--I won't use the ready-made kind. I use fresh ingredients. I love the holidays because that's when I can really cook a LOT of food for everyone that I love to enjoy. But since I work three jobs and there's no one at home to appreciate that type of cooking, I don't do it anymore. So, to answer your question, yes, there are ladies who cook, but a lot of us don't have a reason to cook a "real" meal.

| Do women cook anymore? Posted: 7/10/2007 6:15:53 AM | I CAN cook....its the shopping for the food and the cleaning up afterwards that I hate!!! Makes such a mess!!! Sometimes easier to just let someone else deal with it! | |

| Do women cook anymore? Posted: 7/10/2007 8:24:41 AM | LOVE to cook and bake. Love to cook FOR my man, WITH my man.
Even if you don't know how to cook, you can make a wonderful date by selecting something out of a cookbook together, go shopping for the ingredients together and come home and figure it all out - TOGETHER.
Very fun thing to do. Trust me.

| Do women cook anymore? Posted: 7/10/2007 10:31:18 AM | Did you also grow up in a household where your father worked out and your mother was at home ... and had the time and energy to do the cooking, childcare, and cleaning?
That is likely the biggest difference between then and what we see now. Modern times are not so great in many aspects...

| Do women cook anymore? Posted: 7/10/2007 11:52:03 AM | Well after cooking my own grub now for the past 20 years I apprecaite a womans effort more these days in preparing meals. On the rare occation that a gal does cook a meal for me I always try to help out afterward. That is if she LETS me. I've had some gals say " GET OUT OF MY KITCHEN". Not one for screwing up a good thing....I comply. | |

That said, there is difference between cooking a few times a week
And cooking several times a day as a short order chef, no thank you! I want to spend my life in more places than a kitchen

| Do women cook anymore? Posted: 7/10/2007 4:00:49 PM | | Yes, I do. And I even bake, make jams and can veggies. But I do it because I enjoy it, not because I'm doing it to please someone. Well, someone other than my Mum & Dad! | |

| Do women cook anymore? Posted: 7/10/2007 5:10:53 PM | I cook, and enjoy it for the most part, though I don't do fancy cooking. I do enjoy using my crockpot, and will be trying new recipes for zucchini this summer as it looks like I'm going to be over-run with them this year! So, anyone with a good zucchini recipe, feel free to pass it along. | |

| Do women cook anymore? Posted: 7/10/2007 6:26:25 PM | | I used to cook the most amazing vegetarian meals. Vegetarian spaghetti, lasnagna, veggie stew, veggie matzo ball soup, all from scratch. Haven't of late years, because no one here but me and kitty. Haven't cooked any meat for 30 years. There's a cauliflower stroganoff I used to do too. Stuffed squash. Stuffing with cheese and broccoli. Fried apples and honey. Guess vegetarian cuisine is on the wane. A 70s thing. | |

| Do women cook anymore? Posted: 7/11/2007 7:46:43 AM | I love to cook and bake! I've realized I generally make breakfast food though. Like grits and eggs or pancakes - I make pancakes from scratch, they're awesome. I can cook just about anything...except beans. I think I'm figuring them out though. | |

| Do women cook anymore? Posted: 7/11/2007 9:30:05 AM | | Knobette cooks every day...for 10! YAY! She is fantastic. Costs a bloody fortune every month in groceries, but what can you do? It goes with the job.... | |

| Do women cook anymore? Posted: 7/11/2007 10:58:28 AM | | Unfortunately, I was never great at cooking so I dread cooking for someone else. Thinking they have had so much better. However, I am a great housekeeper. That was my forte in life. Would I like to be a great cook? You bet! I also have been with men that seem to think women should work, bring home the money and be more of a mom that a partner. Hmmm, too creepy for me. All you nice men out there, we would do our best to cook for you. | |

| Do women cook anymore? Posted: 7/13/2007 3:23:57 PM | Yes. And I don't cook just for other people. Living alone I cook for myself every day: fresh bread from the oven for breakfast, shortnin bread, homemade salad dressings (yogurt with honey, mint and cilantro), banana and blueberry pancakes from scratch with homemade fruit syrup, jachnoon, kubana, etc. Some food is slow-baked the entire night long.
The only cooking utensil I need is my cast iron skillet. I don't cook to impress or please others, just myself. Restaurant food is pretty lousy in comparison. Bread or cake should only be eaten warm and freshly baked from the oven (especially yellow cake with warm caramel frosting....uhmmmmm). And salads....grilled brown bread-chicken-mango salad with cheese is pretty amazing. Food should always taste extraordinary and be an amazing experience. And it should stick to your ribs and curve your hunger for at least a good 6-8 hours. And real food means no need to add extra salt, pepper, ketchup or steak sauce if it's cooked right. I'm a woman so why wouldn't I cook?

| Do women cook anymore? Posted: 7/13/2007 4:04:14 PM | In my past relationships, I did most of the cooking. I had no complaints, it helps bring out my creative side... i'll just let her become the taste tester | |

| Do women cook anymore? Posted: 7/14/2007 5:54:38 AM | | I am a great cook - one of my parents worked as a chef on the Air force base for years in the officer's mess. My Partner is also a great cook - his father too was a chef. Between us we always have wonderful food for dinner, depending on who had the easier day or who came home first. Cannot go wrong with that!! We each have our special dinners that we do better than anyone in the world (and all of our friends, family and neighbours know it) and our kitchen is always full of people who bring cake and wine in order to eat our dinner for us... | |

| Do women cook anymore? Posted: 7/14/2007 6:39:13 AM | I do. I love to cook for my man, but I think it's only fair that he help clean up afterwards. If not, I'm not busting my ass in the kitchen for him.
I've always loved cooking and baking.
