| Do women cook anymore? Posted: 7/2/2008 5:11:30 PM | Knobette does the cooking. Yes, I can cook..or thought I could. I could do more than heat up a can of whatever, etc. I could follow a recipe, and have it turn out. I could bake my own bread from scratch. I can use spices properly. But knobette does things to food that just makes it so much better. She cooks for 8 of us now...usually it is 11 or 13 of us. Groceries cost us a fortune.
But...sure...some women still cook...and usually those that can cook well have few troubles with their men...especially if they keep them satisfied in the sex dept. So, the old "feed 'em and f*** 'em" rule seems to work more often than not.
Besides...I tried making a chocolate cake one day...and, without thinking. lifted the mixer out of the bowl...while the wisks were still a twirling...needless to say the splatters all over the 4 walls...cupboards...floor...me...made for an interesting mess...and knobette laughing her head off at me.
ah well.... | |

| Do women cook anymore? Posted: 7/2/2008 8:30:26 PM | Designing woman: I always read and respect you post's. I'm so sorry for your loss..I know you miss your dad so much.
Those of us that are left behind carry on the memories of when our "dad" or "mom" cooked for us when we were children. I have no memories of either.
You are right designingwoman..I'll only cook when someone appreciates it, but not if they expect it. Most men in this day and age expect a woman to work 40 hours a week, cook 3 meals a day, do the laundry and pay the bills to boot.
I learned how to cook because if my animals and I were to survive, I would have to feed myself and them on a daily basis, but I don't see it as my "duty" to cook for a man if he's too lazy to change a flat tire or change the oil in my SUV.

I'm still from the old school myself and cooking is something I love but I won't cook for a lazy, unemployed bum that won't draw me a bubble bath every other night, light candles for me..serve me a margarita and stand in the bathroom until I'm done with a soft, clean towel until hell freezes over if need be..after all, his tummy would be full, no?[/quote[ Wth? You cook one meal and you expect this? How about you draw him a bath and dry him off? Most men in this day and age expect a woman to work 40 hours a week, cook 3 meals a day, do the laundry and pay the bills to boot. Most women expect the man to work 60 hours, spoil her, do 50% of the housework and ALL of the manual labor. Men work longer hours overall/

| Do women cook anymore? Posted: 9/5/2008 6:10:51 AM | No, I do not cook for my "man". I do, however, make dinner for the family.

I work 80 hours a week, do all of the housework, make 3 meals a day, do the laundry, pay all the bills and all the manual labour. What's your point? I'd expect anyone sharing my life to participate in these things so I didn't have to do all of it myself. I'm a lot of things to a lot of people, but "maid" ain't one of them.

| Do women cook anymore? Posted: 9/10/2008 2:03:20 PM | We all need to cook for our freaking selves...no one should be expected to cook for anyone...you don't like to cook, pick up take out or frozen dinners or sit in a restaurant and let someone cook for you that's getting paid for it.
Offering to cook for someone and being appreciated for it is one thing, but anyone who thinks cooking for them (or any other type of catering) comes in the package of a relationship as a requirement in this day and age is out of touch with what's going on.
Now, if a man who expects a man to cook meets a woman who thinks it's her duty to do so, then whoopee for those two; but generally relationships are not productive if they are kept track of on score cards.

| Do women cook anymore? Posted: 9/10/2008 3:42:38 PM | | No. I live in Las Vegas. I have more coupons and comps than I can use per month. I cooked for 26 years and it was never appreciated. Someday if I ever get a kitchen fully equip with necessities like a Cuisinart then I would love too but I just don't feel comfortable rummaging threw other peoples inadequate kitchens. | |

| Do women cook anymore? Posted: 9/10/2008 5:35:23 PM | I've always wanted to ask this question... Define cooking?
I dated a guy who honestly was clueless about following the directions on a macaroni and cheese box. He didn't even open a can and heat it on the stove. So by his standards... being able to heat a can of food was "cooking". (He didn't know how to operate a washing machine either)
Now as long as there is a recipe to follow, then YES I can cook. Don't expect me to create a baked pie using my own creativity. I wouldn't have a clue how to begin.
I can get a little creative in the kitchen. I will alter recipes to my own liking.
I am no where close to professional gourmet chef status.
|
| Do women cook anymore? Posted: 9/10/2008 7:20:04 PM | I've worked in catering, restaurants and supermarket deli-bakeries for 20+ years. When I get home,I can't *wait* to put a Tombstone pizza in the oven
I can cook pretty much anything from scratch.

| Do women cook anymore? Posted: 9/10/2008 7:43:27 PM | I love to cook. Grew up in a large Italian family and started cooking when I was young, learned many different recipes. My mom was also a single parent and we all (brother included) learned how to make gourmet meals from just about anything :)
My kids always appreciated it, but when my x started commenting, "Are you gonna cook dinner or what?" when I just finished working 10 hrs, I began to not like cooking for him.
|
| Do women cook anymore? Posted: 9/10/2008 8:02:35 PM | | OH... then there was the other guy I dated short term... he nuked a chicken breast in the microwave, nuked a baked potato in the microwave, and heated a can of peas on the stove... and proudly professed he can "cook". I don't consider that cooking skills worthy of bragging rights. | |
|
| Do women cook anymore? Posted: 9/10/2008 8:18:44 PM | I'm sure some do, but I don't. I've got the gourmet kitchen and every appliance known to God and man. Maybe someday I will but it's not today! <--- she says as she eats KitKat bars and Reese's Peanut Butter Cups for dinner at 10:20 p.m.

| Shirley you can't be serious?? Posted: 9/11/2008 2:21:55 AM | | Well, when I stop through a fast food place now and then.....I'd say the fast food business loves the fact that many don't these days. I suppose there's some good and bad with a sign of the times, but I sure really appreciate it when any woman cooks for me, it always tastes better for some reason and I think there's a feeling in the heart that goes with it that feels really good too. I don't mind cooking some basic breakfast stuff and even some basic dinner stuff, but I don't enjoy it eating alone. I enjoy cooking for my son when I have him for visitation. | |

| Do women cook anymore? Posted: 9/11/2008 4:54:49 AM | | I don't cook that much because I get in late from work { some time's } : After a rough day , I can't be bothered : Back in high school I failed ~ Home Ec , it's no big deal for me : When I do make supper , it's quick and simple : | |

| Do women cook anymore? Posted: 9/11/2008 7:21:12 AM | I don't, not anymore, but I used to. I went through various levels of interest in it and have been somewhat serious about it, cooking complicated meals and baking complicated breads and pastries. But I 've lost interest. If I had someone to cook for, that might change. Anything's possible However, I do believe that most women cook and enjoy it...at least from what I see...most women I know and have known over the past years since I stopped cooking do cook and seem to be quite interested in it, whether they are single or not. | |

| Do women cook anymore? Posted: 9/11/2008 7:36:07 AM | All around the world every day there are women cooking and sometimes even in the kitchen! | |
|
| Do women cook anymore? Posted: 9/11/2008 8:51:14 AM | | I cook a lot of stir fry's...but mostly I cheat with pre-cooked meals or easily prepared stuff like sandwiches and salads. Sometimes I get really lazy and just munch on cold veggies. Between working two jobs, and composing, I just don't have time to cook as much as I'd like to. | |

| Do women cook anymore? Posted: 9/11/2008 12:24:38 PM | Funny, how cooking never took my fancy in my hey-days, but lesson has been learned and it is not a cliche but the truth "The way to a man's heart is through his stomach. Hmmm ... maybe because as we mature we appreciate more quality and that applies to cooking too =>from scratch. Yummy yummy home-made meal Oh yes, we can juggle lots of things ... with love | |

| Do women cook anymore? Posted: 9/14/2008 6:54:35 PM | | I don't like cooking, but when I am in a relationship I feel that it's my responsibility to do that (yep, the old school). However, now I would only do it for a man who treats me the way I like to be treated. | |

| Do women cook anymore? Posted: 9/14/2008 9:11:06 PM | | Some women .... " love" to cook .... but the reality is .... that most women are now out there .... full time in the work force ..... as well as raising children .... TIME .... is not part of their lives any longer. I would say to you .... in this day and age .... if you are looking for a wife who cooks ..... make sure she doesn't have to go out and work to pay the bills ...... | |
