| Tattoos and Piercings Posted: 7/11/2007 12:00:49 PM | I'm always so insulted by people who don't understand why tattoos are beautiful. It's artwork. People who get tattoos aren't hiding who they are - they're trying to show more of it to you. I'm talking about the people who don't just get flash art, of course. Customized pieces that are well done are stunning because they're showing that the person has enough confidence and belief in something to say, "Look, I can put this on my skin forever with no regrets because I have that much commitment and devotion to the concept." How many people can say that?
Tattoos aren't just for "motorcycle girls", punks, rockers, dropouts, stoners, or any other damn stereotype. I'm a university student paying rent to my roommate, 18 years old, pay my entire VISA bill every month, have a full time job, have tried pot once and hated it, have a pet rabbit, am exceptionally polite, and prefer a good book to a night at the bar. And tattoos are my passion. I love play piercing. I'm getting microdermals next week.
Also, to anybody saying "clit ring", the number of people who actually have their clitoris pierced is pretty damn small. You're probably thinking of a hood piercing, which is not the clitoris. If you check out bmezine you can become more educated on the topic of which piercings are what if you like :) I'm only saying this because I don't think you should be allowed to hate or dislike something until you actually know what it is.

It's not hard to find reputable shops, though - you can usually tell by the interior alone. Good piercers are usually APP certified, which you can ask them. They also have autoclave machines, and you can ask to see the results of their spore tests. The jewelry they use should be 316LVM 169ASF (the last six figures are probably wrong, I can never remember them, but it's something like that). You should be able to watch them take the single use beveled needle out of a sterile package and change their gloves whenever they touch something that's not a sterile surface. Frankly, if you don't walk out when you see anything go wrong, then it's on your own conscience. For tattoo shops, if it has flash art on the walls I leave right away, because I won't go to a place that willingly puts the same design on dozens of people. Their portfolios have to show some amazing healed artwork.

| Tattoos and Piercings Posted: 7/11/2007 9:52:34 PM | I personally do not like tatoos on women. I enjoy seeing a woman with sylish earings and thats about it. I dated a woman who had several tatoos I was not fond of them and told her just that, "she decided" to keep them covered. I feel that unique works of art should hang on the wall and on a fireplace mantle and not permanantly diplayed on a persons body in a modern society.
However there are cultures around the world where it is ceremonial and customary in their place of origin. That I find interesting on how many tribes and entire villages have used these markings for genarations to identify thier place within their colonies.

| Tattoos and Piercings Posted: 7/11/2007 11:42:57 PM | What do you think of it?
How a person expresses themselves is up to them, as long as it's honest and from within then it's good.
Does it make a different for a covered back and chest, or two full sleeves, etc?
See above.
I know a few guys who are intimidated by it. Is this you?
No.
Personally I focus on what I think of myself, what others think of me is their business and none of mine.
I'm always so insulted by people who don't understand why tattoos are beautiful.
Then you should allow others to have their opinions as you have yours ? Appreciation of art is subjective. Not all tattooing is art also.
People who get tattoos aren't hiding who they are - they're trying to show more of it to you.
Not always true, looking at the history of it and its tribal acceptance, ritualistic back ground etc, it can have a lot to do with conformity and acceptance.

PS: No rude answers please, it's just a question so if you're trying to put me and my lifestyle down then you're just bored and need to leave the house more. Thank you.
TATTOOS ARE ONLY FOR BIG, FAT, DUMMY-LAMONTS!
Sorry, couldn't resist.
Intimidated by them? I wouldn't put it that way. I would just prefer that they were not there. More attractive, that's all. More natural, especially if we're talking about something that covers large portions of skin up. Just a preference. I'd date a girl with tattoos if they weren't excessive, as long as she was okay with the fact that I'm not too keen on them.
I'll give you one piece of advice, though. I see a lot of people with really lame tats all over. If I was going to get something permanently tattooed on me, it had better be like wet-your-pants awesome.

| Tattoos and Piercings Posted: 7/12/2007 2:53:24 AM | | I'm not too keen on lip piercings on women. I've seen women with lip piercings and they sometimes look like moles. I have an eyebrow piercing but that's as far as I go. If I had my ear pierced or owt like that I'd look like a right puff. | |

Wow I don't belive how many people will judge someone just cause they have a tattoo. I only have one but plan on getting a couple more. Mine is small, just above my right ankle.
I guess to each their own, but some of the comments on here about people who have tattoos are rediculous. I have a tattoo and I am not anti- social ! where the he double hockey sticks did you come up with that pearl of wisdom?
Peronally I perfer to date someone who is not covered from head to toe in one massive piece of body art, but then again that is just my preferences, and I like tattoos.

| Tattoos and Piercings Posted: 7/12/2007 2:15:35 PM | | i have a tatoo of batman and ive gotten good and bad feedback on it but honestly i dont give a shit what people think. i did it for my self and thats that, if you really want one go ahead, dont live up to others expectations | |

Then you should allow others to have their opinions as you have yours ? Appreciation of art is subjective. Not all tattooing is art also. Sorry, I worded that wrong. I'm insulted by people who don't understand why I think tattoos are beautiful. I'm not trying to force anybody to like them, but at least respect people and the reasons they get them. After all, I respect everybody else's stupid haircut, horrible fashion sense, and gaudy makeup. If they like it and want it, I don't say "My god, that looks so bad and you're defiling your body by wearing that much blue eyeshadow, you must moonlight as a hooker". I might say, "I don't really like it, but it's your face."
Not always true, looking at the history of it and its tribal acceptance, ritualistic back ground etc, it can have a lot to do with conformity and acceptance. And here, I was referring to modern culture in North America and Europe mostly (I don't know much about tattooing in other places).

| Tattoos and Piercings Posted: 7/12/2007 7:39:36 PM | Should take a poll. I personaly don't like it all. Not inimidated by it but it says something about a person who might not be totaly secure about themselves. It's also adicting. To some people it's creepy. What I do know is there's a certain kind of ink that can be lasered to leave no scarring. Might want to look into it incase you want to have some of them removed some day. | |

| Tattoos and Piercings Posted: 7/12/2007 8:28:09 PM | We all make choices and have our preferences.
Some like them, some don't...who would you rather spend your time with?
With that being said...do you really care what those who don't like them think?
...something similar (yet different ) how about a golf junkie? While not as visible, it is a trait some enjoy, or don't, no?
Intimidated? Notsomuch (I know, it's not 1 word, but I like how it flows)...I do appreciate the choice they've made...but that's just me.
Fill your boots Sasha...find your passion and enjoy it. Life is too short!

....EDIT/sidenote....I also read recently where the lower back ones may cause issues with women during pregnancy...not sure of the validity, but apparently epiderals won't be administered thru tat's during delivery due to concerns regarding the ink possibly getting into the spinal fluid.
|
| Tattoos and Piercings Posted: 7/13/2007 12:45:45 AM | | i love tattoos and piercings on a guy... and i know a lot of guys that love it on girls too. i find it hot that men think it is hot for women to have tattoos and piercings.. i like those kind of men... :p | |
|
| Tattoos and Piercings Posted: 7/13/2007 8:46:49 AM | | On the subject of epidurals, many doctors won't do them through tattoos, although there is NO proven validity to the idea of ink getting into the spinal fluid. If one doctor refuses, it's fairly easy to find another who won't. | |

| Tattoos and Piercings Posted: 7/13/2007 9:43:09 AM | Piercings and tat's.
That "stupid little tribal crap on the lower back" is HOT.
Yes, read that again. HOT.
Personally for me, the full artwork, sleeves/chest/body ect. Just makes a girl look used, and thats... Bad.
Same for percings, a few, here or there is good. Alot, Bad. If shes got both nipples, 2 in her clit, and three in her tounge, im out. However, a labret, monroe, nose, 1 in the tounge ect, SO HOT.
Its less about the what, and more about the who I think I guess I dont know. Just, for pete's sake, keep it tastefull.

| Tattoos and Piercings Posted: 7/13/2007 12:04:34 PM | I happen to agree with this statment for men aswell. Personally I have 3 tat's and my toung pierced. I do have a nine month old son and a 6 year old nephew, and neither have seen my tat's. All of my tat's are hidden around kids, but I let other people see them. But mostly they are for me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I believe that they are good in moderation. AND while there are children around, I think that they shouldn't be pushed into thinking that they are cool. If they want one in 15 years, well, that's their decision, but I do not like a nine year old tell me that their daddy/mommy has really cool tat's and they want one! THIS IS WRONG! | |
|
| Tattoos and Piercings Posted: 7/15/2007 6:41:32 PM | I am just curious....for those who made comments about too many tattoos making a woman look "used" or other....HOW do tats make someone look such? (And I am assuming that each tat is NOT the flavor of the weeks name! LOL)
To me....someone would "look used" if they were the local barfly with a different guy each month, but I cannot see how tats relate to looking used?
Not trying to change anyone's opinion....just curious as to how certain minds think about this?
Also, I agree that flash art sucks FOR ME...but I disagree that it is a sign of a lousy shop. Most flash art is designed to give IDEAS....variations create a different piece of art on each person. My son has created some incredible flash art and the only difference that makes it flash art and not original, is he is paid for it and there may be more than one person sporting ink based on his idea.
I DO think that tat shops should have a mandatory 24 or 48 hour wait for someone wanting flash...so they have time to think it out...but otherwise, they are only catering to what some customers like...their livelihood!

| Tattoos and Piercings Posted: 7/15/2007 10:05:45 PM | I read this thread with interest and the temptation to offer a reply was too gret
What do you think of it? Any original piece of ink is always good. The "pick it out of a book" ones are, in 99% of the cases, pretty nasty though. I certainly have no problem with a woman with tattoo, seeing as it would be hypocritical of me if i did.
Does it make a different for a covered back and chest, or two full sleeves, etc? Theres very few good looking full sleeves on anyone, be they man or woman. Most are just bad generic crap and I think I've seen maybe 4 sleeves that have actually looked good. Again the size of a piece is of no concern to me, rather the aesthetic. I think a lot of small random tatttoos would put me off rather than one large piece.
I know a few guys who are intimidated by it. Is this you? Not at all. It's ink in the skin. It doesn't hurt. It doesn't give you some kind of inferred persona. Bad tattoos just make me question someone's intelligence and judgement.

| Tattoos and Piercings Posted: 7/15/2007 10:37:12 PM | A coworker spied the tat on my neck and described me as looking like a biker chick to another man. The only bikes I've been on were dirt bikes and that was a very, very long time ago. And what the heck does a biker chick look like anyway? Anyway, its all perception. Their perception, whoever they might be, and as long you're mature enough to deal with the snide comments, the surprised looks at the paint counter at the Home Depot, the occasional date that suddenly remembers he had to change the air in his tires, then nothing anybody thinks, says or does will ever matter. I love my tats. I have three, on the wrist - most painful of all -, ankle and neck. I've had them for some time and love them all. Each one represents...well, lets just call them wing-dinger periods in my life. Some good. Some bad. Some so painful I thought my heart would explode, but all ink worthy and I wouldnt change a thing. Not for anybody. Good luck with your tats and watch out for the ones on the wrist. OUCH! | |
|
| Tattoos and Piercings Posted: 7/16/2007 12:04:35 AM | | As I was saying before, tasteful tats are great, a few piercings are nice too. But the issue I guess I have with the piercings in the nipples and the hood and all is that it makes it a bit difficult to get the goodies in your mouth without feeling like your sucking on a bunch of metal. Plus they look awesome all natural, no extra holes or bling bling. | |
|
| Tattoos and Piercings Posted: 7/16/2007 3:52:45 AM | I've read a bit here, not all but a bit.... I currently have 18 piercings and 8 tattoos.... And I still date....
Pretty much what I'm saying is... I think it's cool. But whoever you want to be with should like them.

| Tattoos and Piercings Posted: 7/17/2007 11:04:45 AM | Generally and broadly speaking, I dislike tattoos and piercings. There is such a thing as “too much”, “excessive”, “over the top” and “stupid” words that seem to have no meaning to young adolescents of today.
I don’t mind if a girl has a couple of studs in her ears and one or two small, tasteful tattoos but that is it. In my opinion piercings and tattoos are a form of mutilation and how can they not be what with people covering themselves in head to toe in the damned things?
This SashaDB girl is quite attractive (with the exception of the stupid bull ring thing hanging out of her nose) but if she is to get herself covered in piercings and tattoos then her beautiful looks would be mutilated and lost forever. Not to mention, it would be very difficult for her to find a job yada, yada, yada.
|
| Tattoos and Piercings Posted: 7/17/2007 3:03:05 PM | hey girl do what ever you want!!!the fact is that you will have them forever!(remember this)Piercings can heal but tats are there and laser can make a mess of the skin.l ran with a rough crowd when l was younger and thought it was great (tats and piercings)got 2 sleeves, back and legs done,7 piercings,so l know where your coming from,BUT it will make it hard in the social groups and finding a job or just walking in a mall, people look at you alittle different, but its kind of like harleys years ago bad boys had them but now everyone wants one!!!! | |

| Tattoos and Piercings Posted: 7/17/2007 4:35:47 PM | I realize your looking for guy's to answer you buy as a 43 yr old woman with many tattoes and piercing I believe Tastful ART WORK is cool. Just try not to make the same mistake I did at a very young age and get branded which basically means I have a property of tattoo on my ass, I've been asked my a new man in my life what this means and pretty much explanatory I was with a hardcore biker from the age of 12 until I was 40 and it took me 2 yr's to be able to enter into another relationship and I believe the tattoo had a lot to do with it and one more thing remember they are for life so go for it and if men have a problem with it I think they r trying to control you young and I know a lot of young men who are into it unfortunately they r too young for me.

| Tattoos and Piercings Posted: 7/17/2007 4:56:15 PM | taal, I am impressed w/ your knowledge on a subect that skipped my generation for making a statement. "I'm always so insulted by people who don't understand why tattoos are beautiful." Try not to be insulted, but IMO not all tattoos are beautiful ...and too many, no matter how well done, can turn somebody's body into a freak show. I realize that some people aspire to be one, and it's their right.
You are young yet ...w/ an imagination poised well enough for your life yet lived, but as time and gravity come to bear, that tattoo or facial piercing will lose it's eternal beauty. Someone mentioned "tasteful" and both forms of body art can be, but the 'human canvas' might best be taken into consideration. It's far easier to restore a painting on canvas to it's original inspiration, but art on one's body?
I don't think so. | |
