| When I say a few extra pounds Posted: 1/6/2008 7:39:25 PM | Ahhhh...my favorite subject on here. The 'average' for a woman at 5'10" is about 150-170 lbs, that's with a 'large frame'...or what people love to call Big Boned...haha. To me ' a FEW extra pounds' would mean about 10 more pounds...how can a few mean 30 -50 as some have said? However this does not take in the muscle to fat ration. I tend to keep it simple: Hop up and down (boobs on girls don't count...boobs on guys, go to the bottom selection).... Thin...no jiggling Athletic...no jiggling...see more muscle tone Average...little jiggling A few extra...there's more then you want to be jiggling BBW....plenty of jiggling goin' on | |

| When I say a few extra pounds Posted: 1/6/2008 7:46:34 PM | I'd recommend posting 'average'. The woman to your right in the second pic would be 'a few extra pounds'.
You look very H/W proportionate and 'Average' fits that description well.

That's exactly it...everybody has a different "to me" to describe what they consider to be "a few pounds extra". Unless POF specifies what it means by "a few pounds extra" there cannot be a consensus on just what that phrase means. Until then, we get to discuss just how many angels we think can dance on the head of a pin.

| When I say a few extra pounds Posted: 1/7/2008 3:12:04 AM | | What a interesting ?, There are very few people on here that are Honest with this one! I think you are Very honest in your choice, I have seen Lady's on here that are your size and would call them self's thin! Then theres average, This is were it start's to get towards Big, And you are no were near big, So I think Average would be my take! | |
|
| When I say a few extra pounds Posted: 1/7/2008 3:28:55 AM | I would say average. If you think about it the average person is has a few extra pounds. I applaud your honesty. When I look at the profiles I go more by the photos than the description. I have seen some who say BBW that I woud say are a few extra lbs and others that are obviously have more than just a few pounds. Is a sumo wrestler athletic?
It is pretty easy to spot when a person is trying to be deceptive about it. I look for honesty and you got that going for you.

| When I say a few extra pounds Posted: 1/7/2008 7:30:59 AM | | Glad everyone is getting a kick out of my 'test'...and to be honest, I did it and just changed mine from athletic to average cause of some jiggle in the middle. I'm laid up with a torn ACL and doing limited cardio with too much computer time! I will fiix that though! I stick by my 'few' comment. To most I think 'few pounds' would be no more then 10 or so. If I ask for a 'few' of something, you wouldn't give me 20 or 30. But it's the 'average' part that is confusing. I base average on what we should be at in appearance. Fairly trim, no gut or buldges really. If you use a health chart for your age, sex, height and weight...that's about what you sould look like. However, I think a lot say average because they look around and see what everyone else looks like and base it on that. So, if all my friends are overweight by 50 lbs, its reasonable to say I'm 'average' with them. This has lead to a few disappointments on my part...pictures are not 100% accurate. This is not a dig on overweight people at all, just my observation. | |

| When I say a few extra pounds Posted: 1/7/2008 9:25:56 AM | desert-rat hasn't posted in a bit- perhaps he crawled back into the ignorant, mean hearted hole that he lives in??? Like what you like--- whatever dude, but try not to be such an ***hole about things next time... Gosh I hope you aren't offended by my words? It is just my opinion and all................................................. Didn't Mommy ever teach you "it's not what you say, it's how you say it"? JJ
^^^ catching nj^^^ I understand what you mean. About a year ago I had to be hospitalized with a sudden health issue- and due to the meds I had to take, I gained 20 pounds within that year. So I changed my "average" description to "few extra pounds", needless to say, my inbox greatly diminished in men showing an interest... The funny part is, that I look pretty much the same, I did go up 2 sizes, but it certainly wasn't enough for most of my friends and family to even bat an eyelash at.. Anyway, these 20 pounds are a thorn in my side-- :) But if a person can't love me for the 20 extra pounds I put on my average frame- screw em!!! LOL JJ

| When I say a few extra pounds Posted: 1/7/2008 9:45:49 AM | | ^^^^ and I agree with you..Mr Desert-Rat can like and dislike who he wishes...I personally do not date someone I am not attracted to. I am generally not attracted to heavy set women. And I have my own beliefs based on what I have read and seen as why 60-plus% of America is overweight. But I do not bash people for it...it's a health issue to me. But each forum needs that one guy to piss everyone off. Makes it entertaining. During my time on POF I have just noticed that so many people are not realistic about themselves, what attracts the average person and the responses we get. When I joined I thought that this would be easier then it has turned out to be. | |

| When I say a few extra pounds Posted: 1/9/2008 12:07:24 PM | | Well since you invited it, it appears from your profile pics that to me you are about average weight (using an American standard) for your height, what are the choices on the site I forget? If not "few extra pounds" , "average" would be the perfect option for you in my view if they had it but this is bound to be very subjective. "average" to me might be "fat" to some other guy. | |

| When I say a few extra pounds Posted: 6/17/2008 5:26:48 PM | I think the few extra pounds field is extremely overused. IT seems to be a place for a woman with self esteem issues not to have to put BBW. I recently met someone that said she was a few extra pounds. After we met, I am not sure if the BBW would have even been appropriate. She weighed as much as I do and she is 6 inches shorter.
I believe a few extra pounds should stop when you shop for clothes in the womans section. You know, the clothes that have a size and then a W after it. That is just my opinion though.

| When I say a few extra pounds Posted: 6/17/2008 5:44:07 PM | Very few obese women will mark the BBW box... Sorry, but thats reality.
And... in the US, "Average" weight keeps going up. Both in what you will find in the picture when someone has marked the average box... and in what you will see walking down the street. The average American (US Citizen) is overweight and can equally mark "average" or "a few extra pounds" since average is a few (or more than a few...) pounds overweight.
Women don't want to hear it... but thats just the way it is.
Ladies: Don't ask if the dress makes you look fat. You already know that its not the dress's fault.

**************
BTW... the OP fits a TRUE "few extra" pounds (and actually is probably below US average weight for her age/height/etc)
I look at it more from the perspective a Dr would... because my father was a MD.

| When I say a few extra pounds Posted: 6/17/2008 6:34:33 PM | | If "a few extra pounds" means 30-50 lbs overweight, what does "BBW" mean? Does it mean 100 lbs overweight? | |

Depends on who you ask...
There are too many who will claim "a few extra pounds" when they are morbidly obese.
Some won't admit to being in the BBW/BBM catagory until thier waist size exceeds thier height.

| A firm believer in photos??????? Posted: 6/17/2008 7:50:31 PM | | Okay Pete,Just a little info here.In the last month I have personally gone out with 4 ,count them 4 adorable looking men.Yes their photos were posted and along with their profile they seemed very interesting.Interesting enough for me to get together with them. These men all listed them selves as average or athletic.Guess what these men were gigantic.I mean well over 350 pounds of jelly belly. Not fair that some people post pictures from when they were slim and attractive and then show up looking like------I cant even find the right word to describe them.Finding it really hard to trust pics right now.I do not post a picture of myself because I do not have a current one and I prefer people to chat and visit with me first and let me decribe myself to them and then ask if their still interested.By the way I am 5'7" and approx 275 pounds and I make no bones about it.Cant trust the pictures. | |

| A firm believer in photos??????? Posted: 6/17/2008 7:57:30 PM | If we are dealing with reality then yes the Op is "a few extra pounds ' but if we are using the POf method, then i would think she can easily get away with putting "average".
" A few extra pounds" usually means 100 pounds over weight here on pof and other dating sites.

| When I say a few extra pounds Posted: 6/18/2008 2:51:38 AM | | i would think a few extra pounds..but just be honest, i have met a few who stated this and really i think a few was an understatement..just be honest, thats all we want. alot of people have a few they could lose, and i find nothing wrong with that at all. want to grab a drink...lol | |

but if we are using the POf method, then i would think she can easily get away with putting "average". By PoF standards, particularly for her demographic, I could definitely see 'thin' being applicable for her. I have seen some very... er... robust 'athletic' and 'average' people.

| When I say a few extra pounds Posted: 6/18/2008 4:23:56 AM | | A few extra pound's is being over used.A few extra pound's mean's prolly 10 or 20 lb's overweight...Now a day's it's being misused and a few extra pound's may mean 10 - 200lb's overweight.. | |
