NO! NO! NO! A few extra pounds is over-used. Generally seems to mean about 30-50 ABOVE THAT!

amen, brother, amen

speaking for yourself OP: definitely average.

never really use those figures anyway because, as you may have guessed from reading the replies here, most people are way off the mark. it's a hopeless yardstick to use

Average for sure.

If you have an active life or you are a regular at the gym and have good muscle tone then you could easily be Athletic.

A few extra pounds has been abused to the point of being meaningless.

I think as long as you have to lose less than a 3 yr old kid... then you are average!
but you do have more than just head shots so it does give everyone a general idea so all above board and all g0od!!!!

I met one of those few extra pound girls once. She was 40-50 pounds overweight. No second date. Later she changed her profile to BBW.

Sometimes I see bbw and the ladies are not doing themselves justice . When I think bbw images of Mama Cass Eliot, Roseanne Barr, Mabel King and Rosie O'Donnel flash thru my mind .Many of the ladies that put BBW are in fact not , in my opinion. On the other hand sometimes I see ladies putting in average and they are not average by their pics. I think PREFER NOT TO SAY is a good choice to place on the file ,and let the pics speak for themselves .

From what i have seen of you in your pic's i would say average!! as you don't look like you are carrying a few extra pounds at all. I would say a size 10 12 is average you say your a size 14?! but you do not look it, you carry it very well.

I agree SassySue that you don't need to include "a few extra pounds." If 15 lbs is a deal breaker...so to speak, it won't take much more along the way to break the relationship anyhow! I know weight is a huge issue today. One person's "average weight" is another's "fat." You can't please everyone, so be yourself. I've struggled with this, too. A while back, I had a guy ask me if I thought I could become "anorexic" for him -- yes, that was his exact word!! He said he liked everything about me, but my "few extra pounds." I couldn't believe what I was hearing. My response, "You mean ANOREXIC, as in SICK??? No way!" Chats & emails ended right about then. Interesting thread here.

Considering alot of the "average" profiles I see, you could even go down to thin.

honsetly, no one looks at the "thin" "few extra pounda" icon
the picture tells it all. I think it only matters if you dont post a pic.

When a girl says she has a "few extra pounds" or "curvy" I instantaneously think she is the size of a bus and usually (although not always) she is. I personally like to be able to get my arm around a girl and to hold her close.

I wear a size 14/16 myself and I describe myself as having a few extra pounds. Recently since I posted the "full lenght" pic I have had several men tell me that I'm basically selling myself short. I realize that I'm not enourmous...but I'm not a stick either. I feel that if I put "average" body type I'd be misrepresenting myself . Whats the best way to put it?

I have to go with the majority of respondents. If you have, as you say, a few extra pounds to lose they are rather well distributed. Were I you I would change the category to Average." And you definately don't need to go looking for compliments.

I'm not one to fish for compliments. Although I do like to hear them. I was just curious about others viewpoints on the subject. I was gonna start another thread...but after doing a search I came across this one

For American men who use POF, this is usually how we see it:

thin (anorexic skeleton, A cup / thin erotic, looks good in a bikini, A-C cup)
athletic (healthy thin, A cup, tiny butt / muscular woman, A-B cup / healthy big boned, B cup)
average (somewhat curvy, well-proportioned but thinks she "needs to lose 15-20 lbs.", mostly healthy, looks good in a dress with cleavage, B-D cup)
a few extra pounds (overweight but still healthy and curvy feminine, proportionate, gets a lot of stares for her wares, C cup and above)
Big & Tall BBW (fat, pancake breasts / tall as basketball player Yao)
Prefer not to say (very fat)

Or at least that is my best guess ...

In a world where the media glamorizes and glorifies size 0-2, its no wonder women sizes 12 and up classify themselves as having a few extra pounds.

You are definitely "average." In my book, "thin" is the body most guys fantasize about; "average" means you aren't thin but you still have an hourglass figure (as you do); "a few extra pounds" means you no longer have the hourglass figure, but you aren't really flabby (basically, your torso is straight like a man's); "BBW" means your curves are outward rather than inward, if you know what I mean...

One person's "average weight" is another's "fat."

I wouldn't go that far. Average to one person could be athletic or a few pounds extra to someone else. Yet if a person who is 60-70 lbs puts average or a few pounds extra, then they are lying. The only possible exception is someone is very muscular.

I'll agree with what most of the others have said, you have to keep in mind where you are ( the internet), which means you have to speak the lingo.
'A few extra pounds' almost invariably means - on the internet, that is - 'I'm a whale'.
Just like 'want kids - prefer not to say' means she can't have any, 'open minded' means either sexual deviant or practicing hippie, and so on.
I'd say you could call yourself either 'average' or 'athletic' in internet speak.

Ok..Im not a guy..lol...but really, the guy will make up his mind of the first meeting. I have average as my body type and I have been told upon meeting someone that I am obese. F**k 'em and feed 'em beans! :) Some guys want rail-thin, and those men will only be happy with that.

To the OP: To me, size 12 or 14 is average. Size 16 or 18 is a few extra pounds. Any size W is subject to review.

Too bad there is not a BFA Percentage.. (Body Fat Analysis). I can say I weigh 195 lbs - could be 'a few extra lbs' in some people's book if they just look at the number versus my height. If I used BFA percentage, it would be 12% - average.

Just my two cents!

sassysue,
In your case, it doesn't matter if you list average or a few extra pounds. You have great pictures that speak volumes more than any incomplete sentence description could. Leave it listed with what makes you comfortable.

Hey there I certainly wouldn't class you as a few extra pounds and I agree that the term few extra pounds is over used and I find what is avg changes as we all get older .Especially after kids and such and I think anyone who figures that you have to be slim to be avg needs to get a reality check .and I think once a person gets into their 30's it gets tougher to shake some of that extra but when I look around most ppl have a few extra pounds and most by the time they are 40 are a good 20lbs over so avg should be right in that area few extra should relate to how it shows on younot the actual weight.and I did look at your pics and you are for sure avg if not above avg
