Confusing, isn't it sassysue? It seems like a gal just can't win ... if she puts "average" then some think she really fits in the "few extra" or "bbw" cataeory ... but if she puts herself in the "few extra" or "bbw" category... some will say that she is way too hard on herself. I spose pics are the only way one can make their own judgement though...

Well I think we can deduce from this thread that guys can’t measure and girls haven’t a clue what others think their size is. lol

Let’s face it, it is hard to judge ourselves on what we look like and how we appear to others. Just think if we just put a few recent full view photos of ourselves on our profile. Fewer disappointments would probably be the out come.

BUT it seems all too often people don't want to do that. Thinking that the surprise approach is better then the, you get what you see approach. Or the fantasy of meeting the right one by giving the wrong impression whether it would be physical appearance or lure of words "Talk a good game" ect... ect...

OP you got the right idea putting lots of pictures of your self up on your profile even a few full view ones. Make sure that you state that those are recent. Even though you put in a few extra pounds trying to give a honest opinion of yourself some guys will look at that then your pictures and say “Hmmm did she meen put on a few after she took these photos?”

To sum all this up if we can’t be real with ourselves, what makes us think we can find something real? jmo

happy fishing,

If I saw your picture and that you put down .... a few extra pounds
I would say .... bravo .... an honest woman.

yes you could put average ... because the North American average person is about 20lbs over weight.

I think the whole category sucks .... and is misguided.

they should just put height and weight and let the rest be deduced by the observers.

or put... fit ...muscular ... skinny ... flabby .... couch potato xxL .... annorexic as categories

I have seen way too many people put down a few extra when that few adds up to 60+ over.

maybe they should have ... stick figure ... v chest 6 pack ... hourglass .... bowling pin ... blubber ball [I mean bowling ball]

Hi OP,

Well I think you could easily change your weight category to average by what I could see from your pictures anyways....you weight seems to be very well distributed, and with you being a fairly tall woman to begin with, I just think you look great!

Take care OP and good luck to you!
Love and peace...

It doesn't really matter what you choose the whole system is shot to hell now. Average weight can be up to 100lbs over weight.

I wonder if folks would be willing to have their body-mass-index (BMI) displayed. Basically it is one's weight divided by the square of one's height. Very roughtly, BMI's of around 22 are "normal" and around 25-30 are overweight. The beauty of using BMI is that it correctly accounts for height, so a tall person will correctly display a low, healthy number even if they weigh quite a bit more than a shorter person with a high BMI.

6' @ 200LBS

6x6=36

200 divided by 36 = 5.55

That just can't be right.

@Chris,

While my own weight is reasonable, and well under your 300 mark, some, like myself, have medication that causes weight gain. I walk a LOT, exercise, and all that, but it doesn't seem to amount to much. And I'm happy with who I am. People like you may be insecure, I don't know. Besides that, who gave you right to declare who has to be what weight?

@OP: I'd just like to know this much: When these sites say 'a few extra pounds', what do they really mean? In comparison to what? A 747? an ant? What? As long as YOU are comfortable with who you are, then isn't that what matters? If someone doesn't like you for an outward physical appearance, an image, then they've got some issues of their own, and are just a timewaste.

Compared to what is generally considered to be a healthy bodyweight for your height and frame.

someone doesn't like you for an outward physical appearance, an image, then they've got some issues of their own

Maybe they are looking for someone who takes pride in their appearance and puts effort into staying healthy and looking their best. Wanting someone with a healthy body doesn't necessarily make you shallow.

Thank you on this, It is so confusing to put your body type down, When I did post my picture up of me in a bikini. I had put a few extra pounds. Since I bounce with 10 pounds back and forth. I had so emails telling me no I was slender, athletic. Then a friend of mine asked to start browsing some profiles. A few extra pounds does seem to mean 25-40 pounds over wt. Which I would have thought would be BBW

Its a matter of perspective...

"A few extra pounds" usually means the person would like to lose some.

"Average" is definitely a matter of opinion also... US average is getting heavier and heavier. With up to 30% of the people in some areas being medically classified as "obese." Obese is WAY overweight and it takes 3 to 7 anorexic walking skeletons to make up for one obese in order to average out in the healthy range.
Since the national average is now well above the "healthy" range (by the medical chart) You can legitimately claim average and have your waist be wider than your hips.

Size 14 is not into the obese range... (unless you are 4' 5")

But then... I'm a realist.

If you want to lose weight:
Try running. Its virtually impossible to be able to run 5 miles every day and be overweight.

************
EDIT after viewing the profile

OP: You don't need to lose any. You're firmly in the healthy range.

This seems to be the best place to say this....

The average woman in the United States is 5' 4" tall, and weighs 162 pounds -/+ a pound or two. These are statistics that come from the National Center for Health.

This is the AVERAGE height and weight for an adult woman in the U.S. So when a woman states average on her profile and she falls (or closely resembles this) this height/weight proportion (give or take a few pounds here and there for height differences)....then she is being honest. She is AVERAGE. She may need to loose 10-20 or even 30 pounds to be slim to athletic....but she is average.

Men: The average U.S. male is 5'9" tall and weighs 190 pounds....sorta beefy, and definitely NOT athletic. so taking into consideration porportions...a man who is 5' 11 and weighs, say 220 pounds he would fall into the average too, I would suppose.

Sorry, I should have described the BMI number better. It is your weight in kilograms divided by the square of your height in meters. Doing that calculation in your head isn't that simple. The simplest way for most folks is just to hit google looking for any of the hundreds of BMI online calculators.

In your case 200lbs at 6' comes out to 27.1 (Mime is 25, so we are both a bit over what we should ideally have.)

That is one way of looking at it. The other way is the ideal weight for a person at a certain height or body fat percentage. For example, the average woman might be 5 ft 4 in and 162 lbs, but that would be considered to be overweight by BMI. Yes I know the BMI isn't always accurate especially the person in question is athletic/muscular. Yet it is a general indicator of weight. A lot of people here stated that body type is subjective. That's true up to a certain point. If a woman is 5 ft 4 in and weighs 200+ lbs, then she is clearly obese. If she puts average or a few extra pounds, then she is lying or is in denial about her weight.

Everyone always says to use BMI when referring to this subject... thats such a crock. If you actually used the BMI for this indications, the majority of people would be in the BBW section.

The body type indicator in this profile isn't the measurement of your BMI, its how someone would describe you if they saw you.

If you look like most of the people in your area... then you are Average. If you are thinner or more athletic looking, your Athletic. If you are a bit bigger than those around you, you are "a few extra pounds"... if you are way bigger than most people, then you are BBW.

I stated the BMI isn't always accurate. The majority of Americans wouldn't be considered to be obese by the BMI. About 2/3 of Americans are considered to be overweight and about 1/3 of Americans are considered to be obese. An overweight person usually has a higher percentage of body fat than the ideal amount unless they have a muscular/athletic build.

I am not arguing that... that is factually true, but that isn't what the body indicator is supposed to be..

To me, the body type indicator is how you would be described if you were going on a blind date with someone.

You wouldn't use BMI to describe what someone else looks like.. You wouldn't even use dress size to tell someone.. you base your description on how they are compared to other people...

Had to pop back in here. Holy Cow Batman these stat's are right. Average women are 160 pounds. That is just huge to me. If this is how they are gauging people's body style we need a new Body style here in POF. I would be considered Anorexic. Which is plain foolishness. I think americans and yes, I am one of them needs to get off the sofa put the chips away, don't eat at Wendy's burgerKing etc . for a month or 2. These weight statistics are truely sad.

OP, according to one of my female friend, size 14 is considered average these days, but you also has to factor in height. I bought her some clothes off E-Bay that were a size 10 and they were in the misses size, she is also 5'6.

BMI isn't an accurate indicator either. While it does take into account height, it does not take into account body composition. Someone who is very muscular will be heavier, which will result in them having a BMI that could indicate them being "obese" when they are nothing of the sort.

OMG!!!
Why do you want to complicate things just throw a recent full view photo of yourself on your profile.

Then there would be no need for you to convince anyone with a BMI or you height and weight factor or any other BS.

Fact is if they like what they see.... no problem.

Do you think you are going to put a spell on the other person and convince them to be physically attracted to you? LMFAO

A few extra pounds means many things to different people. I also say a few extra pounds and I'm a size 10-12. I know of people who consider themselves a few extra pounds and they wear 2x or 3x sizes.
