In my opinion, a few means 5 to 10. Average to me means on the thin side.
But here, average is an open vast subject where in order to embelish one's figure by description, is often misleading.

Sassy, I would say average... But on the other hand... I have noticed men who put average and there should be a category... obese.. LOL

Some men, NOT ALL

Average is a touchy word too, and so is athletic fit, I noticed some mens' profiles athletic they were chubby

so who knows

But def,, change yours to Average!!!

Ok I am a tad confused in what is being posted here... No offense whatsoever to the OP. I am mainly asking others that posted. Isn't Athletic considered someone who works out alot, all muscle tone needs to lose no weight. I am very confused on that term.

Someone posted thin = under 130 lbs, well it depends on your height as a woman as well let;'s say she is 5' 130, that is not thin, have to take height into consideration as well.

But, I am very confused on the athletic part, guess that is why some mens' profile I look at, atheltic, and they are not.

term overused for average, I assume

Someone please explain this..

Here's a tip, put a full body shot of something fairly recent, from head to legs. If you got one of those on there and it's a fairly accurate picture, not one of those insanely flattering ones that everyone loves to stick up, you can leave it as prefer not to say.

Oh and judging from your pictures I'm not sure you really need to say a few extra pounds, there's a few people like that that're too hard on themselves which includes yourself and some people that aren't hard enough, I dunno maybe I'm one of them but if I am someone's gonna hafta let me know.

I must say I am no way Athletic, yes I have muscle tone, but I am 25-30 lbs underweight and on meds etc to gain weight! Lucky No, try living this hell, I would like to look the OP.

I am not allowed to work out and have not worked out in 10 years, I have a high metabolism beacuse of this i lose weight quickly, if any POF woman wants to be 5'5 91 lbs they can, I sure dont want to, and all the health problems associated with it.

I am thin not athletic, but there are some very sick men out there, who say you dont need to gain weight, not what my docs say.

Being extrememly thin is as bad as being obese and if anyone wants my health problems due to my thiness they can have them. I wont go into the health rsks but just imagine, and before I get a good lashing, no I am by no means anorexic as some would assume before even asking questions, I get that alot as well. , I eat 4000 calories a day and still cant gain weight. All my life I struggled to gain as well as my mother who is 68 and barely 100 lbs and taller than me.

So athletic is somone who works out great shape, needs neither to gain or lose. that's what my question was, because on here, some people view athletic in different ways,

Sorry for my vent, but I do get that alot, and see doctors constantly and sick of men that say you look fine, tell my docs that!

Westside,
I forgot to say, my post to the OP by no means was I fishing for a compliment, I was asking the forum on what athletic meant. But thank you for your compliment

gentleman.... the camera does add 10 lbs, that I know, some I have met well are like OMG you are tinier than your pictures, my pics are like 4 montsh old, and in those pics I was 102 lbs.

I was asking what athletic meant on here, personally I know what it means.

But so many use that term loosely, I wanted to know what others' opinions were on the matter.

And to the OP, you are a very attractive lady, I wish I had your body. I would rather struggle to lose a few then the hell of trying to gain and the constant medications I am on.

So to the men, dont assume thiness is all what its cracked up to be, and some weirdos will do that, and not realize the health problems associated with being extremely thin, just as those that are obese, its a losing battle.

^^^^ but what you are talking about is extremes. Thin and slender is fine..... just as being a "few" lbs. overweight is fine. It is when you start to get to or near the extremes of either end of the weight scale that can be problematic or unappealing.

Athletic to me is just that. One has the physical appearance of being quite physically fit.... tight, firm, good muscle tone and shapely..... many guys put athletic simply because they wear sporty sweats with stripes and watch sports on TV, lol

I hate the word "thin"....it seems to indicate that someone is really skinny...I prefer slender...one who is slight, but has great muscle tone and just not alot of fat...I have very lean bones which I inherited, of course...I am healthy, athletic and works out daily (especially now that holidays are over)....it's just a lifestyle for me...

Omg, man. Do u have any idae how difficult it is for a woman to maintain a size 4?
Especially if she is not a particulary tall individual??
Paris Hilton, Nicole Richie, The pre- babies Britney Spears, Kiera Knightly, Mischa Barton, Angelina Jolie, Gwnynette Paltrow, those are size 2/4's of the world, do you not see how thin that really is????
The only reason those women maintain their small size is simple --drugs/ or plunking down thousands of dollars on chefs/personal trainers- if they aren't the druggies of the bunch!!!
I would have to be dead about 10 years to be a size 4. Ask almost any women who isn't blessed with the metabolism of a roadrunner how difficult attaining and staying a healthy size 4 is...
That's like saying to a man, well "Sorry guy, but if that attachment between your legs isn't at least 10 inches long......"
Maybe that's an odd comparison, but I wouldn't love a man any better if he was hung like an oak or hung like a twig!! LOL
Size 4? Geez...........

How on earth does anything over a size 4 make a few extra pounds? Is that supposed to mean a size 2 is average? The most widely read men's magazine in the world..Playboy...features models that are usually 8 or 10, so perhaps a letter is in order to Mr Hefner for publishing pics of all the lard asses! C'mon now!

Your pic trumps your description.

Guys will look at a full body pic, and judge on that, no matter what you call yourself.

Tiny Woman....I am also a small woman...5'4"...103 lbs..with long, lean bones....I am athletic...I have excellent muscle tone because I do work out, but I am not obscessive about it...it is all in the genes I think...I do watch what I eat in terms of fat and cholesterol...mostly because of my father's family history of heart disease...however, I can enjoy even some of that if I want...never turns down a few slices of loaded pizza....I also have a very high metabolism....and doesn't sit for long doing one thing...I engage in alot of sports; loves to ski, iceskate, ride my bike, walks around a nearby lake, dancing (yes uses calories and is great for tone), and, living in the city, has been walking to the T-system instead of driving...I also will make trips walking to the local grocery when I need just one thing instead of driving...it's a great way to get fresh air...some of it is heredity (father was 6'5" and weighed 180) and some of it is lifestyle choices...

In your message there is a bit of a contradiction. First you say you are a size 14 but you feel you can lose 15-20 pounds then you say you are confident. If you are confident like you said why do you feel it neccessary to lose 15-20pounds? Society today focuses too much on looks. Like they say "Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder". As long as the person is HEALTHY and happy and treats you with respects it shouldn't matter how we look like.

I want to lose weight for me not for anyone else! I will more than likely still be a 14 when I lose 15 pounds just want to tone! I didn't feel as if I was unconfident when I said that, I believe that people should do what is right for them not what they feel society says is right!

Thanks to everyone for your responses! Good, bad and ugly:)

I have said it before, and I will say it again. Men and women view the whole body type thing differently. This is not true, of course, for all men and all women. However, generally speaking, what women see as "average" men see as "a few extra pounds."

^^^^ that is because in todays age, average actually is a few extra pounds...... the problem is the word (few) is relative to any given person. As you stated Libertine... women see it differently but men see it just the same when attempting to be objectional about their own physique..... we just see it differently when looking at women, It is much easier, cognitively speaking, to look at one self and say I am average as opposed to being objective and saying I am a few extra pounds overweight. Just as it is easier for a guy to look at a woman and say, oh she is chubby but then look at himself and say he is average even though he also could also lose a "few" extra pounds.

It is internal marketing. Simple mind games one plays with themself and both sexes particpate in this which makes one a little more (or completely) comfortable with themself.

Peace

You remember when Lindsay Lohan was hot then she became a size 2/4 and became hideous... also got addicted to coke, maybe that's why she became a 2/4 who knows.

I still maintain that a picture trumps a description, I've seen girls that are "A few extra pounds" that are half the size of women claiming to be "average".

If you think it's rough for you though, feel the wrath of the Body Mass Index, to be Average I'd have to lose so much muscle along with fat it's disgusting, but women can literally be twice the OP's size and still be well within the healthy range.

I dunno how any system can say with just height and weight as a factor, it works for all adults regardless of bone mass, breast size, muscle mass.

Anyway moral of the story is, it's not how many pounds you weigh, it's how you wear them that counts.

Again (and again, and again), POF is deliberately vague when it comes to the designation of body type, otherwise it would simply have us input our specific weight. I think that most guys could figure out that a 5'3" woman who is 200 pounds is more than a few pounds extra, but just as height can be fudged, so can weight--a picture really answers any questions. But take the POF body designation of "average": average compared to what? The health charts for ideal weight for height (which also require you to pick your own frame size)? "Average" for North American men and women who are on average 15-20 pounds overweight compared to the health charts? We can go round and round on this one, but the simple truth is that POF does not specify exactly what "average" or a "few pounds extra" may be--it leaves it up to the individual to decide.

"size 14" is an entirely alien concept to me. I don't know what size 14 means. 14 what? Millimeters? centimeters? Inches? Feet? Acres?

I myself picked a few extra pounds because my belly is round but I have no difficulty fitting in my seat at a theater or walking or anything like that.

Then again, I'm a fat admirer so I would probably find you attractive provided we have common interests and chemistry.
