So AGAIN...you keep defying us to show you where you went too far...each time this is done for you, you move the goalposts again and make another sweeping statement about the multitude of European bigots who keep insulting North America and NFL...can you tell us specifically WHO they are besides Pedro? And even Pedro ended up admitting that what he was trying to say was that his own local soccer rivalry is a negative thing and unhealthy, the manner in which he expressed it notwithstanding! Another "Eurosnob" "chimed in" and expresssly said how disgusted he is by the nature of the rivalry between his team, Celtic, and Glasgow rivals Rangers. So besides these two terrible condescenders who are these countless Europeans on this thread? Name some names or else qualify your slurs! Or even better, hop down off the cross and give another martyr their day in the sun...

Dunno Steve...your collection of provincialist, sweeping, anti-European slurs stand as fairly stark testament. As I said above, they speak for themselves....and now you're not even man enough to 'front up' and admit that you went too far.
Admit I went too far in what? Defending what I believe in, what I am passionate about?
you think it's the responsibility of anyone who happens to be from Europe to share your 'outrage'.
No, but I do think that if you really want to convince me of your so-called "open mindedness," you'd go a lot farther in doing so if you weren't actually defending Pedro when he calls North American rivalries "a joke," as you did in your very first post in this thread.

I think Princess Fiona, me, George (and that's without even checking for anyone else) have all tried to discuss the historical and longstanding backdrop to some of the more infamous European rivalries.
Yes, you all have, however, your detailed discussions have NOT answered my actual questions, namely: "...the so-called "rivalry" is merely another venue for some socio-economic/political/religious standoff; if that/those issues were removed, would the rivalry be as intense? Would it matter as much if the game wasn't actually a surrogate battle between factions, and were just a soccer game?"

Not to mention that you have twice in this post used variations on the term "provincial" in describing me; I can only surmise that your continued outrage is that of one that considers themselves culturally, morally, and edcationally superior by mere fact of one's location...in other words, Kirk, you are more and more acting the part of "Eurosnob" that you act so indignantly offended by the description of.

Well, unless Pedro has TWO PoF profiles -which I'm pretty sure is against the rules- somebody said this: "a group of grown men attending an american football match ,shouting a few obscenities, witnessing a few unsportsmanlike incidents on field,so trivial."

So besides these two terrible condescenders who are these countless Europeans on this thread? Name some names or else qualify your slurs!
Kirk, for someone that accuses ME of not reading posts, you seem to be the grand champion at it; here again are my rules for the way I post what I do, when I do it: "...No, my position is -and has always been, without wavering EVER- that "if you disagree with me and do so in a judgmental, intellectually and culturally superior fashion, using loaded phrases such as '[what you believe in] is a joke,' then you are a biased, arrogant European"...and you can review ALL my posts in the sports threads for proof; although you might find that some of the other regulars here will confirm what I have said. I don't have a problem with anyone not seeing things as I do; as long as they recognize that their different opinion is merely that-an opinion, no better or worse than mine...however, if someone acts biased, arrogant, and condescending, I'm going to respond - especially if it's regarding something that I am passionate about..."
"... I don't make a habit of "preying" on those intellectually weaker than myself; but if they come out swingin', I'm gonna swing back..."
"...I have told you that my purpose on threads like this is to challenge and refute the snobbishness of those that dismiss North American sports -including the greatest sport in God's creation, American football- so whether or not anyone agrees with me is not all that important..."
"...I don't spend a lot of energy responding to someone that agrees with me; I argue with those who don't. If one disagrees in a civil fashion, so do I; if one acts like a Europrick, I can fire up those burners, too-and when someone "disses" gridiron Football -the greatest game in all of God's creation- I'm gonna speak up about it..."

Because I suggested that your posts are tendentious, i.e., I disagree with your point of view and happen to come from Europe...I'm a "Eurosnob"???...this is great...you make my point for me.

you'd go a lot farther in doing so if you weren't actually defending Pedro when he calls North American rivalries "a joke," as you did in your very first post in this thread.

You earlier insisted that you had no problem with my first post...are you now recanting your earlier claims? Moreover, I tried to see if there was a way past the way Pedro expressed his views. I disagree with Pedro lots of times, especially on the question of US sports.
And you equivocate unacceptably on this issue of WHO all these Europeans are. Either there is only one person one, possibly two, whose views you took exception to or there are many more. You keep saying there are many, many more, yet you keep quoting ONE person again and again. So, to borrow your own exhortation from earlier you can't have it both ways! Either limit the scope of your remarks, or else, short of any evidence to the contrary, you are playing the bigot!

Now do yourself a favour, take your own advice and read some of the responses properly. George in particular has given very comprehensive accounts as to how this is an extreme view whether he was debating you or Pedro. We all said that the sporting rivalries that degenerate into violence are terrible. However, there are lots of rivalries that have a long and chequered history which are also VERY MUCH about the game today and are very much ENJOYED, PASSIONATELY by everyone involved. You are trying to paint things in black and white in a way that is completely misrepresentative. You've conceded that you know next to nothing on this issue, why not allow yourself to be informed by people that do and keep an open mind YOURSELF...you know...the whole practice what you preach thing, apart from the provincialism that is!

Of course you didn't bother to read the rest of that post. The same guy was far more critical of the rivalry involved between Celtic and Rangers...as a fan he expressed disgust at it...do you actually read the whole post or just react as soon as you see certain "buzz" words? And are you now conceding that apart from Pedro...ALL of THESE 'chiming' Eurosnobs are Pedro plus one other post that you deliberately read out of context???

As for your claims to intellectual prowess...I'm not sure that all of us are necessarily your intellectual inferiors Steve.

at flashgeorge,

i never insulted you, now that you have done it and the battle of insults has just begun. let me tell you that you are a piece of shite! yes a piece of shite! MORON!

i have NEVER slagged England or the English off! in fact England is a nice country and their citizens nice and working. the problem arises from many football supporters. and i will show you some facts you idiot with no brain!

FACT, when English teams travel outside England, many of their fans (mostly those who did not get tickets or got drunk) love riot acts, breaking glasses and bottles in the streets, facing the police, etc.

FACT, lots and lots of them get DRUNK! DRUNK! many English and some Scottish team have played here in Spain and lots of their fans got drunk and faced the police in the street, etc

FACT, it appears that they become worse when they lose (you have to be a man and accept the defeat)

FACT, there are lots of English supporters who are racists, yes racists! do you want me to talk of Leeds United Football Club?

FACT, how and why is it that the English have a very, very bad press outside England? is it because us the rest of Europe are idiot and know nothing? no it is not! it is because you really have done something to have such a bad press!

by the way, i repeat it again that i am not slagging England as country and their citizens off!

by the way, not only some English are bad but some Greeks and Turkish as well.

note that i have used the term 'some' not 'all'.
