Most folks in my Family get the “OHMYGODYOUDONTLOOK_____” bit from people, and deserve to. ( this makes weddings and funerals are so much fun). But why is age the big culling issue ? If you are attracted to someone you meet on the street, you may guess their age, but that is all it is ...a guess. Only on the ‘Net do we get to discard potential (m)dates due to the number branded on our profile.
When i read the “ i look younger than I am” line I think it is a wee bit like “ I’m beautiful because all my friends tell me so!”
Perception of age is in the eye of the beholder.

(I am just glad many of my friends wear bifocals and are no longer aloud to drive at night )

Do I look my age?.....no.....I look older I think....I take a look at my own picture and think, good lord but your an ole phart! But that is because I dont FEEL as old as I am or look. So I try to avoid the shock by not looking at my own picture
Bottom Line?....it doesnt matter how old you are, or even how old you look, but how old you feel and act. If your friendly, outgoing and happy with the way you feel....SOMEONE will find you attractive. And there begins the possibilities.

I am not sure why people bother to write that they 'look young for their age' unless it means something like .........don't bother to get in touch with me unless you are much younger than me because I know I don't look as old as you! lol

I was recently told that I looked more like I was my 30 year old daughter's sister than her mother. ok. NO, I don't. I look like her 47 year old mother because that's what I am. As long as I FEEL young and try to look my middle aged best, that's good enough for me!

...Well I found the hill, but I'm having problems climbing it, not that I'm in any rush to reach the top......you know that saying what goes up, must come down haha

^^^^ For some reason, Greek mythological character Sisyphus came to mind.

For those of use who are not up to date on our Greek Mythology:

Sinner condemned in Tartarus to an eternity of rolling a boulder uphill then watching it roll back down again. Sisyphus was founder and king of Corinth, or Ephyra as it was called in those days. He was notorious as the most cunning knave on earth. His greatest triumph came at the end of his life, when the god Hades came to claim him personally for the kingdom of the dead. Hades had brought along a pair of handcuffs, a comparative novelty, and Sisyphus expressed such an interest that Hades was persuaded to demonstrate their use - on himself.

What fascinates me is that if I set my age range for matches as low as thirty, most of the females who say they are in their thirties ......look to me to be over 40... I have even compared them to old photo's of previous partners who were in their thirties, just to see if I am getting some sort of warped perspective of age as I get older.

Knowing someone's age gives you the ability to know if they can possibly relate to what you think the good old days were. When they start reminissing about Kiss and Twisted Sister then I know I'm hangin with a young crowd.
Now if its Nervana and Soundgarden I think I should call my daugher up and see if she wants to hang with them.

I like to think about Santana, Led Zep, Doors....but what if I like Sam Cooke or Elvis....or maybe Tone Loc and the Red Hot Chili Peppers.....it can get confusing with "multi-generational" music lovers like me.

The fascination that males have with music as a relationship compatibility measure is ridiculous. No offence to any posters here, merely an observation based on my dates I have spoken to lately.
That's why IPODS were invented - so that I can listen to whatever music my mood dictates in the moment. Lucky they’re coming out with phones in them soon (no I am not paid to plug this product and if it’s against the rules then I apologize).

I was married to someone the same age as me who listened to old music that I disliked. I like current music and get bored with reminders of the past as I like living in the moment.
In my opinion music is completely irrelevant as a measure of age or maturity. It only becomes an issue for people who live in the past and who wants to date them anyway, not me!!!!!

Someone could seriously get VERY confused if they were to judge me on my taste in music....and I am not exgagerating here. I've had Alice in Chains in my car for almost a year now and I'm still not sick of it. While at home and since I don't watch any TV, I have my radio on 24/7 and it's tuned to my favorite rock station which plays everything from the latest hit to the classics...concentrating maily on the current stuff which I prefer to hear on a daily basis. Throughout my life, I've loved everything from Neil Diamond, Roy Orbison, The Bee Gees, Led Zeppelin, AC/DC, Metallica, Neil Young, Bob Segar, Guns and Roses, Micheal Jackson, Eminen, Nirvana, Pearl Jams, Pink Floyd (my absolute all time favorites) closely followed by much beloved Alice of course....and I could probably go on all day if I had any memory cells left that is...haha!
Anyways, good luck to anyone wishing to box me in any particular "age category" based on my music taste alone!

Love and peace

lonely......

We will see what you say when you are 56.....still in shape and look still younger than 50.

Then and only then will you truly understand what it means to be eliminated by a number on your drivers license, and not by your character, ability to look, feel, and act as young if not younger then the one that has used that criteria to eliminate you.

To be in your 40's, look and act mature but still look in your 30's just does not compute in my mind when you are told that you are "toooooo old" for dating possibilities. To be in your 50's and get told that by both those in their 30's, 40's and some even in their early 50's, when you look, are in better shape, can not be seen as anything even close to your age, and then told.......you are not in my age requirements when up to then they thought you just as viable as anyone else they considered dating......is just wrong.

I do not want to date anyone that wants to have children still, or anyone that would like for the two of us to head out and pick burial plots together, but other then that........I am open to all the possibilities........

Just my opinion.........

I don't understand why a woman over 40 would be offended if someone states that she looks younger than her age. I know that there some good looking women in their 40s and even early 50s. However if a man states that a middle aged woman looks younger than her age, he usually means it as an compliment since he thinks that woman is attractive and takes care of her body.

I agree, but this also applies to some women as well. Music is usually just one aspect of a person's lifestyle, interests, and personality. I know people that I have a lot in common with, but we listen to different types of music.

I went to get my hair permed today, as they have a discount for senior citizens on Wed. When the girl was ringing me out... she looked at me funny and said, I hate to ask you, but how old are you? Of course I told her, and she said, you don't look it.. No big deal for me.. I look like me, regardless of my age. And by the way, she didn't get a bigger tip for saying it I was just glad to get the discount !!!

I guess some age thing don't show as much as culture.
there seems to be a general misinterpretation of my music reference post.
It had nothing to do or little to do with the taste in music and really was more in how people relate the first hearing of a certain music that is new at the time and what else they were into at the time.... a nostalgia reference. People seem to have nostalgia references like music that was new at the time or tv shows or movies that were in the theatre etc.
I appologize for not being more concise in my point.
being of similar age allows for a closer set of nostalgia references though culture again does play its part. there are always reruns and oldie stations.

I've met people on here (women and men) who do not post their up-to-date pics. Thus - who can say they look their age.

Oh and to the lady who is new on here ,,,,, there is not a chat room, just IM - however in time you will decide for yourself if you want to allow anyone to IM you, or just those on your favorites. LOL - I've chatted with other's over 45.. and us ladies agree there are a lot of younger dudes who think they can IM us with sexual messages and we go for it, or want it. I believe my daughter told me these ladies are referred to as "cougers"..... hummmmm ... not for me.

good luck to you!

Well, I think it's a perception thing. I'm fifty, and no one's ever going to confuse me with a teenager.

That said, I can go one on one with kids half my age easily. I find I've got more energy and that, combined with wisdom learned over the years, I'm just more efficient doing a lot of things.

I see this at work all the time. I remember working with this kid, who was a rising football start. I think he was about twenty. Working with me, I'd be jumping alarms as they came up on the screen before he's even notice they were there.

After several hours of this., literally non-stop, things quieted down enough to talk a bit. I timed it perfectly , and looked up over at him, and said " So I guess reaction time is a lot less important today in football then it was back when I played it...."

I think what some people mean when they say they don't look their age is possibly based on how old they've seen some other people look at the same age. I think a lot of it has to do with attitude, and taking care of yourself. I do know a few people my age that really look "old".

I also know some really ancient thirty year olds.

The forums here are really the best part of the site. For me, anyway.

The threads....look my age, act my age, dress my age...too many to count. I've read them, posted to a few..but honestly I haven't been able to define or know what any of that means. Not that I wasted a lot of brain cells trying...bottom line, it doesn't mean anything to me. Hasn't changed me in any way shape or form.

I do get amused at people who ride the expressions and use them like they're supposed to "mean something". Maybe I'm the dolt...doesn't mean anything to me, if it means something to them..and I ask, they can't seem to tell me anyway.

For me it's either amusement or confusion....most often amusement. I'm not confused about who old I am..(never had to check my Driver's License) or what I'm wearing or how I'm "acting". My age...yes I know that, it doesn't bother me one iota...dressing it or acting it. I don't need to define for anyone else's benefit my choices in wardrobe or behavior.

It seems at times funny or maybe sad that individualism isn't often embraced or understood. I feel sorry for those that don't realize what life is about...life IS change. The sooner we realize that and don't fight it but enjoy it...well it's made me a heck of a lot happier.

Life is dynamic, not stagnant. It moves forward and onward not backward and not stuck in sometime...in a galaxy far, far away.

Someone told me this and it stuck and I remembered...the definition of "old" is living in the past...the definition of "young" is looking forward to tomrrow with excitement and anticipation.

That works for me!!
