If it's good enough for me, it's good enough for other people.
If it isn't good enough for other people, I don't want to live there.

Sudden Visitors - Is Your House Clean & Tidy Enough ???

I would like to say my house is spotless 100 percent of the time, but that would be one great big lie, it gets messy after all I have four kids who when they get in from school, a mini tornado looks like it has hit my house, I always have a basket full of washing, I think fantastic I have got to the bottom to turn round and find the thing bloody full again, there is always shoes in the passage way, they take them off and leave them there, pet hate that drives me up the wall, I was brought up in a house that my mother could tell if one of her ornaments had been moved half a millimeter, you used to sit down on the sofa and move the cushion and she would shout at you for moving it, who wants to be sat straight up while sat on a sofa, I like to slump, my mother is house proud, nowt wrong with it, but when you are told as a teenager to strip in the street because you got covered head to toe in mud rescuing your little sister who got stuck up to her knees in the stuff and hosed down because she wouldn't let you in the house, that takes it to far....
I like a tidy house don't get me wrong, but I have figured out that untill my kids have all grown and left home it is never going to be spotless and something will always be out of place, so if people come round and it isn't tidy tough, they don't like it, they don't have to come back....

Sorry no visitors are allowed this week and next, busy decorating, normal service will resume soooooooooooon, the house is a mess, with tins of paint and masking tape and signs (wet paint),

Oh yes, QUESTION if you are decorating, how comes the house gets so dirty, surely I am making it cleaner, by painting.

So my question is this ... is your house in visitor ready status at all times or as soon as the door is knocked are you to be found shoving stuff in cupboards and under the sofa?

My home is always neat & tidy & I mean always, the joys of being an ultra fussy Virgo I guess! Anything that's where it shouldn't be is put away before bed, washing up done, curtains drawn etc etc, just the way I was brought up & the way I like to live in my home.

Should people take us as they find us?

Of course, if anyone feels uncomfortable then they are not in the right place, it's about who & not what when you visit someone elses home although I'm happy to admit there are some I've visited where I've felt a tad reluctant to get too comfy!

Before starting University, my home was spotless. I do not like mess. I do not like things where you can see them (that shouldn't be there). I am fussy and I admit it. But since I became a student i am ashamed. If you come on the weekend it is lovely, no kids and I have time to try. However in the week I have MOST to do and assignments etc so basically I have books everywhere, peices of paper. Boxes with files out. My mother is always commenting on it. My walls need sanding and re painting...but hey once I am qualified I can get paid help in

OUR HOUSE

My house has a high traffic load with 5 and a dog living under 1 roof.
grown up kids that have supposedly moved out many years ago come a calling on a regular basis.
i like to think my house is reasonably clean and tidy, i would never apologies if you caught me in a mess.
Visitors are always made to feel genuinely welcome, otherwise i am sure they would not want to come stay or call again. and they often do.

I have friends who have been known to come round just to clean and tidy. They like cleaning and tidying. I do not like cleaning and tidying, so who am I to stop them doing something they enjoy?

My house is clean and tidy enough. Any friend who turns up on my doorstep is almost always guaranteed a warm welcome, a cuppa and a bloody good time. And that's what it's all about.

I totally agree with what that mad woman above me says...

My house is always clean.. but often cluttered.. i have 4 adults living in my home at the moment and its a nightmare.. i did do a rota but that soon got forgotten in a few days, with the excuse ... 'I have to work'.. or 'i have to go to college' Yeah well so do i have to go to work!!

but if a friend turns up, they know its clean, can have a clean cup with a fresh cup of tea/coffee, and a good laugh...

I dont clean, I just buy new when its dirty..( I wish )

Right now the Queen could visit and feel right at home because all the rooms in the house have/are being decorated it smell's of paint, something she must be used to considering they decorate before she visits anywhere..

I love my house to be clean and tidy, I'm just not good at keeping it that way myself. I recently got myself a lady 'that does' once a fortnight. It's so lovely when she has been and it does encourage me to keep the place tidier. Before she came for the first time though I was madly rushing around to tidy and clean - no more, that's what I pay her for.

I keep my kitchen clean since I had a new one fitted. I just love to see it gleeming and get joy from polishing the surfaces (how sad am I).

If anyone comes unexpectedly I have to rush to my bedroom and quickly make the bed and put things away as my bathroom is through the bedroom, real nuisance that. The spare bedroom come office is a different story. Sometimes I can't even get through the door and I can't remember the last time I saw the floor.

And can anyone explain how a cat can make so much mess?

yeh I think that at the moment my house is pretty clean and tidy.

Last weekend was a different matter.

I had a friend staying with me for a while after she'd split from her fella, there were boxes and stuff littered about everywhere, and I must admit it did drive me barmy having to try to keep the place clean and tidy particularly as it was me doing it all.

Bless her though, she held a surprise party for my birthday at the house and while the rest of my friends set everything up and got theirselves dressed, my house mate took me out for the afternoon.

She was supposed to have tidied up the house apparently so that they could just come in and get done. But in the end everyone had to pull together, clean the house and then do all the party preparations. I had to laugh when they complained at having to clean lol

As messy as the house was while she was here and as ashamed as I was at having guests while the house was so messy, I loved having my friend stay with me.

The first opportunity I got though, I scrubbed the house from top to bottom...best workout I've ever had, I ached from head to toe!!

I am a bit of a tidy freak so yep my house is always clean and tidy. If sudden visitors did turn up then the only thing out of place may be a couple of cups in the sink that the teenagers have sneaked in there without me noticing!

The kids rooms are their domain and I don't go in there unless I have pre warned that I will be hoovering etc but the rest of the house is always spick and span

My house is nearly always tidy, but there are occasions i just look at it and think 'sod it!' I'll do it tomorrow!

And you can guarantee thats the day the doorbell will ring!

I'm sure the tidy police have me under surveillance....

I don't have visitors! Nobody has ever been to my house!

I am organised enough, know exactly where everything is (exactly where I left it)....usually got better things to do than housework-

Not at the moment, but it will be in a couple of hours. I keep up with what I can through the week. But Saturday is catch up day, so I suppose I best get my ass off here and do it.

At the moment I've got fabric all over the living room and dining room, and woe betide anybody who messes with my fabric. Unless of course they are a fellow fabric freak, then they can come in and play.

My house is generally tidy. I have a room where all the junk goes for sorting so that the rest of the house is kept in fairly good nick. People should take us the way they find us but that doesn't mean that they will necessarily want to date you if for example your place constantly looks like an atom bomb hit it.
