Shanghai, where there are so many beautiful women, that men have an option to turn down women who would be a perfect 10 anywhere else ... Time to go consult my travel agent.  | |

Women in China do suffer from discrimination in employment issues, but social relationship issues don't seem to be an age based problem. Divorce does have a stigma because in China family is important and though most women divorce because of abusive relationships, they are still viewed as having burdens (children in a nation where one child is the limit) and questions about their family values. Yours is a nation which has far more men than women. As a result women tend to have the advantage. But many women are not inclined to take a poor worker as a husband when statistically they feel they can do "better."
Age discrimination happens everywhere, but America is a nation of immigrants and tries, for the most part successfully, to be tolerant of different perspectives. The result is that we have far more diversity and innovation here. Meeting people here is hard because we lack the common social institutions, rather than because we refuse to date divorced women or older women. I feel sorry for the women working in the hotel industries in China. Often their work is dependent on the wims of their supervisors and the favors their supervisors demand. In America such actions would result in the firing of the supervisor or the institution would have to pay a hefty sexual harrassment settlement to the woman. | |

Posted: 10/29/2007 11:40:53 AM | lulucheng, I saw a story on a national news program in the USA about a new phenomenon in China; millions of unmarried men and women in urban areas who didn't marry at what was traditionally younger ages, they were referred in what was translated as: "big boys", and "big girls". The story basically was about how difficult it was with all the cultural changes for singles in their 30's to get married as they had become so engrossed with their new prosperity involving sometimes years of higher education that had come at the cost of limiting their time to socialize. Changes in an upwardly mobile and progressive society can bring about unexpected new challenges to individuals.
Up until the mid 1970's most divorces in middle and upper middle class family's were brought about by men getting tired of their wives, cheating, then marrying much younger women. Most divorces now in all but the poorer inner city's are filed by women, there are many more divorces and the age spread might be lower then it was in the past per ratio? An age spread of up to 15 years isn't very unusual as the age delta or percentage of age differences decrease as adults get older. What would be out of the ordinary would now would be more common in the last century, successful businessmen at age 41 marrying their 21 year old secretary's , an age difference of 50%. Now most men would add at least 7 years to an age difference of 50% as women have gained more equality and economic independence, that's a trend that's going to continue. In some poorer third world countries younger women will marry older men in arranged marriages , that's something Jewish women in distant country settlements before the 20th century in Europe dreaded, the "matchmaker" with some fat older, wealthy client.

Posted: 10/29/2007 9:58:45 PM | last weekend ,i went to a friend home,one friend worry about me still single,he said i need down the ask of man,such as widow man or divorce man,just as a like inferior goods in the shop,that feel is not good, in their eyes if a woman over 30 not married,even other sides is very successed ,she is not happy.same is not successed.
i will live still happy ,even i am 80 years single old lady ,i are same happy. | |
