| All you old ravers... Posted: 8/16/2009 1:30:15 AM | I used to be the head of security for Club X, (Rhythm Station), Fusion, Helter Skelter, Slammin Vinyl, Spooky Productions, One Nation, and a load of others across the south east.
Good days | |

| All you old ravers... Posted: 8/16/2009 1:46:12 AM | I did the full on rave thing with my partner Jackie from the illegal ones you drove round for hours waiting for a phone call for the location to Ibiza where we had a night as VIP guests of Sonique at Space after meeting her at Manumission, being on stage with Paul Van Dyke behind the decks in the Courtroom at Cream at the wedding of one of the people who owned Cream, queuing for 3/4 of an hour inside Cream just to get in the Courtyard to see Oakey playing at midnight, going to Helter Skelter in Milton Keynes and hundreds of other top nights all over the country. Have to say the Bluenote in Todmorden (I think) was by far and away the best music
Must have met hundreds of 'best ever' lifelong friends during that time, not one of which I could even tell you the names of now. Oh what joy.

| All you old ravers... Posted: 8/16/2009 1:58:19 AM | | I was at Global Gathering a couple of weeks ago, and apart from one old bloke who actually recognised me from my DJing days, me and my mate were approached by this bloke who insisted on taking our photograph, as to quote him we looked "Old Skool". | |
|
| All you old ravers... Posted: 8/17/2009 7:11:46 AM | I was 13 in 1993 and used to listen to Fantazia, Dreamscape, Helter Skelter and Dance Paradise. Listened to it up until about 95 then went off it as there were too many cheesey tunes coming out like Toy Town. I then moved onto House and then to my present love, Trance.
I still enjoy listening to the odd OId Skool Hardcore set.. Top Buzz, Slipmatt, Ellis Dee etc.
But now I love Trance and follow Armin, Eddie Halliwell, Menno de Jong, Ferry Corsten etc.

| All you old ravers... Posted: 8/17/2009 7:42:06 AM | I went to quite a few house parties as I prefer to call them. Ones that stick out in my mind are (the first) ENERGY & BIOLOGY. Two of the best years of my life, utterly fantastic atmosphere and the music back then had some class about it.
Sadly KISS FM went commercial and turned a vibrant underground scene in to a commercial "people with white gloves" affair. I soon moved on to alternative house & garage. Fantastic days, those I can remember!

| All you old ravers... Posted: 8/17/2009 7:44:27 AM | Ooops...........I'm on the wrong thread it says 'Old ravers' !!

|
| All you old ravers... Posted: 8/17/2009 9:41:10 AM | I remember the raves, they were wonderful. Glen Miller, Bing Crosby, Vera Lynn, Count Basie........... great nights!! | |
|
| All you old ravers... Posted: 8/17/2009 11:33:19 AM | No, never went to raves, wasn't interested in the music and even less so the scene. Full of pretty shallow and stupid individuals in my opinion. The kind of idiots who go on about 'energy' and 'crystals'
Still, takes all sorts I suppose.

| All you old ravers... Posted: 8/17/2009 12:11:22 PM | I used to M.C at the raves back in 95-97. They were great years, lots of travelling around the country doing gigs with the likes of Bass Generator, Technotrance, Scott Brown and Scooter... lol
I was a fan of Scottish hardcore, I used to love bouncing to Ultrasonic, TTF and the likes but my favourite DJ's were Carl Cox (before he left his hardcore roots), Marc Smith, Hixxy and Lenny Dee (GABBA!!!!)
I don't listen to hardcore anymore but still have CD's of some classic raves that I put on now and again. I listen to mostly Psy/Goa Trance, breakbeat and D&B nowadays.

| All you old ravers... Posted: 8/17/2009 12:23:28 PM | I was still wearing a fishtail parka back then, hoping for the big comeback....
Rave music wasnt my gig by any stretch of the imagination. Horses for courses though innit? I do remember constantly hoping for a rapid end to this scourge on my lugholes every time i happened to enter a club.
It never did happen /sad

Does anyone remember Camden Palace and Bagleys?
Yes, I used to go to small clubs up north in 89 and the odd warehouse (and had some great times), then moved to London.
Around 94 or 95 I got back into raving, I lived in Kentish Town. Went to Camden Palace, Bagleys, and peach. I lived in a hovel and shared a room with a friend. One night she came back from Camden Palace as she was too out of it, she'd been walking the streets in a furry bikini top and jeans... I WOULD NEVER do that now, back then I was just like "oh, you walked home in that, fine". I'm also convinced that every time I went to camden palace I got fleas as I always itched... but had a great time.
I went to Bagleys a few years ago as they'd turned it into a roller-skating rink, it wasn't like riding a bike, my roller-skating abilities had gone. Been to Camden Palace in the last couple of years as it's now Koko? Some indie night I think.

| All you old ravers... Posted: 8/17/2009 6:39:33 PM | | The only and I mean ONLY thing that ever beat Global for me was Ibiza - nothing else compares for me. | |

| All you old ravers... Posted: 8/18/2009 4:42:31 AM | | i can't stand techno anymore, its music only to take speed to or E..when you stop doing those and realise how silly it is stomping to repeative beats..haha | |

| All you old ravers... Posted: 8/19/2009 9:50:37 PM | Well i still play all the great old rave music at gigs, and also play latest VERY hard house stuff which goes down a bomb whatever age group we have in. Although my 55 year old business partner kinda panics when i put the seriously hard stuff on if anyone looks under 18 years old!
We did a gig a while ago with 15 to 20 year olds and it was rammed and they wanted hard house all night. We did the same ole same ole for a 60th a week later and it was quiet on the dancefloor until i said to hell with it and ramped it up! They loved it! You really are never to old you know for that stuff. It seems to stimulate something in your system which makes ya wanna get involved thats for sure.

| All you old ravers... Posted: 8/20/2009 11:18:12 AM | I started raving in 87 at Berwick Manor Rainham, then moved onto Seduction Dance Weekenders Caister, roller express, chunnel, bagleys, cross, laberinth, club UK and loads of others.
I love it.
Best times were defo Seduction, Roller Express and Club UK
Got to know a few DJs, so got in on a few guest lists so saved a few pennies.
I liked trance and happy house, HATED hardcore and Jungle
Now and again I go onto Utube and play some old tunes.
Wouldnt want to do it now, im a responsitle mother of 2.

| All you old ravers... Posted: 8/20/2009 12:03:46 PM | I started listening to acid house in 1989, I was only 9 at the time, so I found the music on pirate radio stations. By about 91 - 92 I was into hardcore, was never into jungle but I liked drum'n'bass.
Obviously being so young I never experienced the rave scene, the only way I heard tunes was from the tape packs I got from my older brother and pirate radio. My older friends take great pleasure in reminding me that I'm a tape pack jockey, it's makes them feel better about being old. :-)
I remember by about 1994 a new music style emerged called Bassline house, which later became known as London garage. A few years later it became commercialised and was called speed garage, then UK garage.
I had a brief interest in uplifting trance when it was at it's peak in the mainstream clubs (that was actually before garage), 1998 from what i remember.
From about 2000 I started producing garage music and remixes and was selling whitelabels, I did it for quite a few years until my business commitments demanded too much of my time. I was offered a recording contract by warner dance in 2004 although they withdrew the offer once they found out the vocals had been knicked from an RnB accapella, opps!
Nowdays I listen to "oldskool" garage and the new vocal tracks, I also don't mind a bit of House and UK Funky.

| All you old ravers... Posted: 8/20/2009 12:21:40 PM | bagleys Labryth Telepathy Lazerdrome in Peckham
Those were my haunts, and a great Tribal Gathering many moons after when I was actually old enough to get in! Wasn't the same though :P
These days, for those that yearn for some old toons
BANG FACE
Next one has Slipmatt, Ragga Twins, Rat Pack (local heroes round my way) and many more.
They've been keeping it solidly good for a while now
