| why do alot of the guys at this site have a problem with dogs? Posted: 4/23/2009 8:39:36 PM | | I spoil my pets and always will. I have 2 chiuhawas and one maine coon cat. I can not date someone who does not like animals period. They seem to be too uptight and ridgid. I am very laid back and enjoy the love and devotion of animals. I also spoil my man. But I will not give up my pets for a man. I won't even hand out with people who do not like animals. Animals lovers are cool people. | |

| why do alot of the guys at this site have a problem with dogs? Posted: 4/24/2009 3:17:19 PM | A lot of people in general might take offense to having a slobbery dog lick off half their face, probably more a female than a male, since she probably put on makeup for the date.
It seems that a lot of females are more drawn to the ankle biters, and the men look at me with skepticism while I walk my dog as big as I.
I know that amongst the men I work with, even those that own dogs, they are quick to want to shoot them, which is why I try to get there first or not get there at all.
So many people carry so many prejudices, and too few carry an open mind. A young girl just got her face ripped off by a Pit Bull running loose. Are they all bad? THE OWNERS WERE BAD OWNERS! I think that Society should be able to put down the owners right beside the dogs. That is just me, though, venting.
Back to the thread, a man doesn't want to play second to a dog, but guess what? The dog was here first and he loves me wholeheartedly and unconditionally!

| why do alot of the guys at this site have a problem with dogs? Posted: 4/24/2009 5:18:48 PM | Well to be honest it's not that big a deal; and you want to date him and now you are ripping on his looks? you are lame;
Because some people treat their pets like humans; I love pets but when you date someone with one you cant' do what you want; lets be spontaneous and go on a trip or do whatever; can't because you have to get someone to take care of the dog.
I'm sorry I dont want a paris hilton dog limiting what we can do.

| why do alot of the guys at this site have a problem with dogs? Posted: 4/24/2009 6:21:48 PM | I saw this thread and did a double-take... There are people who don't like dogs? Wow. I must live under a rock or something. I can't say I've ever met anyone who didn't like dogs. Now maybe certain "types" or "behavior" of dogs I can understand... like the little yapper who tries to chew your leg off if you get too close to your ole auntie or the neighbors dog who will not hush at 2am. OP... I really haven't seen many people who "hate" dogs on this site... perhaps you should change your tagline to "Must Love Dogs" That way at least you know you're attracting the type of guy you're looking for | |

| why do alot of the guys at this site have a problem with dogs? Posted: 4/24/2009 6:35:16 PM | I have two dogs and two cats, so if someone doesn't like them we aren't going to match very well. If someone sees the pictures they'll know I have them and pets are with me until they die. When I got them that was the commitment I made. If he didn't want dogs, you two are not a good match. There are all types out there and part of you is your dogs. | |

| why do alot of the guys at this site have a problem with dogs? Posted: 4/24/2009 7:43:51 PM | Ohhh Deja Vu!!! At least this post hasn't gotten as heated as the one before this one was revitalized lol......
I have no dogs as of yet but in my family they are a huge part, when the family gets together the dog's all get their visit as well....We have Rudy and Dukie the short-legged weiners, one cantankerous Tessie an old lab who really wants nothing to do with the festivities, and Reggie our beloved doofus mastiff/boxer cross. These guys are a huge part of the family and yes are treated with the same love an respect as our other family counterparts.......My sister-in-law had a bday party for Reggie with a cake and everything, it was freaking hilarious, almost as much because we all showed up, sung happy bday and everything.......trust me it was done tongue-in-cheek and was really just to get us all together for an outing but it was funny as heck and we had a blast, our Reggie loved it as well!!!
When l found myself single after almost nine years l was left with two kids, two cats, two sugar-gliders, four degus, three hamsters, four hedgehogs, two chinchillas, finches, fish, two budgies, a dove, a lop-eared rabbit, a four and a half foot iguana, a chinese water dragon, and a sickly leopard gecko........
Yup, definitely need an animal lover to be in my life!!! I don't have a problem with someone who does not have a love for animals but l won't be judged for having the love either, just will date someone who has the same feelings as me on this subject is all.

Uhm, my pets don't limit what I do, it's called boarding them assuming I can't get their regular pet sitter... the only time they become an issue is if I decide that potential date is not really floating my boat for whatever reason, and I can think of only twice that I've resorted to doing that because I didn't want to hurt the guy and he couldn't take all the hints I had laid down. I'm thinking if your dates are telling you that they can't do something it may have something more to do with their feeling vis a vis attitude towards you/the relationship than it has to do with the pet(s) limiting them. People with kids do it all the time, they don't really dig the person they're seeing so suddenly getting a sitter becomes impossible, it's a great scape goat and makes the parent not have to be the heavy... for those of us that don't have kids to lay the excuse on, our pets become a great way to get out of dealing with someone we would rather not hurt outright. Just sayin'...

| why do alot of the guys at this site have a problem with dogs? Posted: 4/24/2009 8:13:28 PM | I've found that a lot of people have issues with pets. Having my pets doesn't prevent me from taking road trips (that's what friends / family is for--house sitting), doesn't stop me from dating (work does that), ect.
And did Paris Hilton start a line of dogs now? Weird.
Anyway, be glad you don't have to deal with him. Find another pet lover.

| why do alot of the guys at this site have a problem with dogs? Posted: 4/24/2009 8:45:47 PM | | Hey, I like dogs. I find it mildly annoying how much some people dote on their pets, but the way a person treats an animal under their care says a lot about their character. I would not want to date someone with a dog that was not properly trained or is overfed and underexercised to the point that he/she finds it painful to jump and play around. | |

| why do alot of the guys at this site have a problem with dogs? Posted: 4/28/2009 6:00:06 AM | I admit that I am in the process of learning about canines. I am reading, studying and learning hands on. Arrogant males that have told me, "I have been around dogs my whole life...and blah, blah, blah..." that advocate punching a dog to put him in line annoy me.
Men (I am sorry to say, mostly Black, that are intimidated by "ROCKWEILERS") first of all, the breed is Rottweiler, named after a German city, and they are working dogs even if they are big and strong, but for men to, even if they are friendly about it ask me if I can handle him, would they dare ask that question to another man?
I spent the final year of my undergrad studying gender differentials, and have spent the last decade plus working in a male dominated field.
Why does testosterone produce that quality in men that they have to be louder, bolder, know more, or whatever instead of just being gracious?
Why do some people need to have a Superiority Complex?
Any man that comes in my world, you are at maximum second place to my dog!

Posted: 4/28/2009 1:48:30 PM | He's an ASS...I had a man come over ( a first time) when one of my dogs licked his hand he freaked out! he said " I don't like those things, their dirty"....my reply was....get out. I think people who don't like animals are just people with no feelings or emotion.

sactowndude, you say a dog is a dog, not a child, leave them at home! that is only to you. my dog is my child, and i will treat him as such. if you ever had a dog, or a cat, and loved them, truly, you would understand. you are missing out on much love. my dog does not have temper tantrums in a store crying for something, he does not call me names, he does not argue. he is happy just to be with me. and thats the way i love it. i have to say, if you were hanging on a cliff, and so was my dog, i could only save one, well, guess what?, id still have my dog beside me. you would have to say good bye. yes, i am serious. and i wouldnt look back.
Meow mix Now that's just fvckin twisted. I hope you and your dog are happy with each other because you are deffinetly not suitable for human companionship!!! ...And get some help
As for everyone else i agree dogs are wonderful companions! It's just a shame that other peoples negative dog experiences have ruined it for future relationships.

| why do alot of the guys at this site have a problem with dogs? Posted: 4/28/2009 3:38:10 PM | My opinion on the dog dilemma is that anyone who places too great an importance on a dog or cat or any animal for that matter, is missing something in his or her life. I have known women who I have meet right here on POF, who when talking to them on the phone, interrupt the conversation to tell their dog something. Or the dog is barking in the background, and she stops the conversation to ask the dog what the problem is. That type of behavior is problematic! To me it shows a lack of proper priorities, for the value of humanity and of human companionship. This has happened to me a few times, and I promptly ended the conversation.
I do not have any problems with dogs or cats. However, my bottom line is that they are just dogs or cats. Dogs or cats will not engage me in conversation, will not sit down and discuss problems with me. Will never tell me that they love me or look into my eyes and say silently that we love one another. Dogs will never whisper in my ear, that they love me as we are having an intimate adult moment.
In short, animals are not people. I find resent that anyone will elevated a pet to the status of a person.

I don't hate them I'll pet them and play with them, I just prefer cats or reptiles 0r fish. From my experiences with women and their dogs is.....They treat them way different than they do humans, almost as if the dog was a child or something. Come on it's just a dog.

| why do alot of the guys at this site have a problem with dogs? Posted: 4/28/2009 10:56:06 PM | My dog is a Big Boy, and there is no dispute in that. I am not a big woman, and he is clearly stronger than I.
My question is why do men feel entitled to holler towards me if I can handle him? Would you men yell that out to another man?
He does tend to drag me at the onset of our walks and that is why I have a choke collar, because when he cannot breath he stops. I can understand someone's trepidation, but so long as I have him on a leash and in control, I think the men are the ones that are out of line.
I will go one step further and say that a lot of men are the real cowards and lack compassion. The macho men I work with are the first ready to pull their guns and shoot. Certainly, sometimes it is necessary. A lot of macho guys are clearly afraid of dogs. They are cowards, hidden behind the veil of machismo.

NocturnalPrincess, your generalization is a bit over the edge. How many men in today's world own guns? How many men in today's world have a permit to carry a gun? I think your post is way of the topic. Why is it necessary to make a broad brush generalization like the one that you are making? Isn't your personal experience enough to explain your feelings? Why is it necessary to drag all men down, because you have experienced a few men who are low class and ignorant?
