| why do alot of the guys at this site have a problem with dogs? Posted: 4/29/2009 6:27:14 PM | I apologize for the overgeneralization. I was referring to the male police officers with whom I have had the privilege to work, regarding the guns. One of my main premises was why a man would say something like that to a woman that he would never say to another man, I appreciate your honesty and perspective, though, because not all of any cultural group are low class and ignorant. One time I answered a non-violent call and the woman's dog darted out at me, but I read the body language as friendly. Other police officers said they would have pelleted that dog to the carpeting. I think you are hurt because I articulated that many men are actually cowards, but that is extremely off-post, and I apologize for that, but it was attached to this comment as appropriate here. I see many men walking their tiny dogs down the street while I am being dragged by my monster, and I don't yell over to them that they have a sissy dog and why can't they get a real dog like I have.
I honestly was not attacking men in general, just the ones that feel like they are a step above women.

We had talked about meeting but a couple of days before we were supposed to meet, he sends me an email and says "I'm sorry, I didnt know you had a dog, I can not go out with you because I hate dogs!"
I think some single people out there could just save them selves a lot of time by telling people who own pets that they are allergic to dogs or cats.

| why do alot of the guys at this site have a problem with dogs? Posted: 5/1/2009 1:13:48 PM | I think dogs put some men off coz sometimes the woman loves the dog much more than the man !
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
My dog does not lie to me.
Does not try to control me.
If i upset her, she is very eagar to make up. Men want to whin.
Does not ask me where i have been if i am 5 minutes late.
Not jealous of my friends.
But will have your A$$ if you hurt me.
And maybe that is why a dog is a turn off to some men. They are loyal and will protect what is theirs.

| why do alot of the guys at this site have a problem with dogs? Posted: 6/16/2009 7:44:48 PM | i have solved that problem from the get go. it is in my profile. not only do i have pics of my dogs, including the tattoo of one of them on my shoulder, but i also state that i like my dogs more that a lot of the people that i know and that they have been the glue that held my heart together when going thru break up of my marriage. if that doesn't turn dog haters off.... then they deserve what ever they get. and if they wait til they get to my house to tell me that they are dog haters.... i'll just set my pit bull/ great dane on them. | |

| why do alot of the guys at this site have a problem with dogs? Posted: 7/5/2009 5:44:16 AM | There should be a searchable "Do you have a dog?" setting on each POF profile, just as there is with smoking, children, age, height, etc.
While all generalizations are iffy, my experience has shown me that dogs are generally: Noisy, aggressive, dirty, stinky, needy, destructive, and unpredictable around children and strangers. They are especially troublesome in public parks.
For those who defend the ownership of dogs on the basis that a dog is somehow a better "partner" than a man or woman, I would say they are probably dizzy from the heavy stench of dog-stink that permeates the home where they and their dog lives. Ewww ...

| why do alot of the guys at this site have a problem with dogs? Posted: 7/5/2009 7:21:36 AM | I've had girlfriends that had dogs. I've met women on POF that have dogs.
On the whole I avoid women with 12 cats or 3 dogs. Almost like walking into a house with a three year old. To much drama.
Why? The dog comes first. The dog interrupts.
Ever gone for a walk with a woman who brought her dog to get to know her, and 50% of the words out of her mouth were correcting the dogs behaviour? I've raised and trained dogs. Her dog thought its name was "NO!"

| why do alot of the guys at this site have a problem with dogs? Posted: 7/5/2009 8:07:47 AM | Guys love dogs too...Really...What we don't love are for our girls to smell like a wet dog. Dog smells are kind of like cigarettes...not so noticeable to the owner/smoker, but overwhelming to the visitor. When we sit down on your couch we don't want to brush off a gallon of hair form our shirt....When we gently kiss your neck...we are turned away when we see your dog just licked your neck...and further remember that before licking your neck he licked his rear....It just sort of takes a way from the petite little flower image we like to have of our girl. While it might be true that some guys just don;t like dogs...the majority just are honest and acknowledge up front they could never live with the stinch and hairiness that is evident to the visitor that is no longer noticed by the owner. For the record-I love my dog (resuced Dalmation named Sissy.) She is my world, but I try to keep her fur and dog nastiness clear from everyone elses world. Hope this helps. Sean | |

They can be the most friendly dog ever and I would still feel uncomfortable around them. Then there is the slobber, wet nose, licking that drenches your hand, the smell..........

| why do alot of the guys at this site have a problem with dogs? Posted: 7/5/2009 9:44:18 AM | Miss Claudia (and other "dog people"), my feeling is that if a guy tells you he "hates" dogs, then he's not the right person for you (or me!). Geez... it's not like you dress your dog in baby clothes, push him around in a stroller and say it's your son! I think animal lovers are people who have more love to share in their hearts. I can't imagine what sort of person my former co-worker was, who claims she doesn't like ANY kind of animal.
Perhaps people like that are concerned about not getting all of your attention?

| why do alot of the guys at this site have a problem with dogs? Posted: 7/5/2009 10:20:52 AM | | If someone has a problem with my dog then oh well. Ive had both men and women comment that my dog should be outside and not in the house. He is not a nasty dirty dog either, look at my profile- he's 120 pounds of fun loving fur factory and he is absolutley spoiled rotten and I would not have him anyother way. | |

| why do alot of the guys at this site have a problem with dogs? Posted: 7/5/2009 10:24:27 AM | People who actually 'hate' dogs have something deeply wrong with them, in my view, but I've never met anyone who truly hated dogs, just some who are afraid of dogs, which can be understandable if they've been attacked before, or come from a culture that doesn't keep dogs as pets, and so on. That stuff can be worked through, though. But if anyone says "it's me or the dog"... I hope we all know which one to get rid of. | |

| why do alot of the guys at this site have a problem with dogs? Posted: 7/5/2009 10:55:23 AM | | Just latching on to the last poster. When I read the title of this thread, I thought the OP meant, you know, guys who have trouble with women who look.... "a certain way". Then when I started reading the actual post, I realized the subject was the four-footed variety. I own a female Bichon Frise who is absolutely gorgeous and has the personality to match, though she is very high maintenance. Guess the two do go together lady or dog. No one can keep their hands off of her for long, she seduces everybody with her looks and her charm. And she is one of the few breeds that are essentially odor-free. Unless she gets too inquisitive on one of her explorations. Yes, dogs can be much more attractive than people. Still, maybe not a bad idea (the female two-footed variety) for the subject of a future thread by an OP who is feeling unreasonably invincible. Maybe work in the angle about how sometimes you can have amazing zex with a woman or a man whose looks would lead you to believe "no---never!!!" Life can be a kick in the butt when it shatters our most preciously held misconceptions about people. | |

| why do alot of the guys at this site have a problem with dogs? Posted: 7/5/2009 7:11:38 PM | I personally LOVE Dogs! I live in a small apartment so I don't have a dog because I don't think it would be fair on the dog because I'm out a lot and a dog needs his/her space and needs to be taken out for 'walkies'.
I was so disappointed yesterday because I had company for the 4th of July. A friend of a friend was supposed to come and bring her dog Zoey, but she called and said she couldn't make it. I was looking forward to seeing Zoey! I love dogs!

| why do alot of the guys at this site have a problem with dogs? Posted: 7/7/2009 4:32:51 PM | Why would a person on a site say something like "best dog is a dead dog"? First thing that comes to a person who loves animals, is that you have the makings of serial killer, but then again, most serial killers treat their dog better than humans!
Second, if a person really cannot stand a pet, just say so, and not be disgusting about it. Comments like that make a person look like Ted Kaczynski (the Una-Bomber).

| why do alot of the guys at this site have a problem with dogs? Posted: 7/9/2009 4:36:54 PM | I can kinda understand about being a "dog nut", but I never really "get" what those kinds of folks are looking for in a dating site like this one, especially when they go on about the dog's virtues and how it will always be "loyal", "loving", etc.. If the dog's so great, then what are they doing here? And what kind of person puts animal and human relations on the same level anyway? So maybe what some guys have a problem with, is NOT that they'd be dating a gal with a dog, but the sense that they'd be dating her AND the dog.
And just because I don't wanna dress up like a Klingon doesn't mean I hate Star Trek. In the same way, it's lame to say that someone "doesn't like dogs", just because they aren't "in love" with your canine "mini-me" in the same way you are. In fact it sounds kinda narcissistic to insist that they do (and BTW, Narcissists don't make very good relationship material).
