I think dogs put some men off coz sometimes the woman loves the dog much more than the man !
I know myself and some other guys have a bit of an inferiority complex disorder, but this is ridiculous. I've had a few problems with an owner's dog mildly attacking me because of making out with an ex (This was a while back.), but it was nothing major. We shared a good laugh and continued elsewhere.
Unless the guy is just allergic to dogs or has a serious fear of them (From a past related incident or whatever it may be), there's no reason for a male to ditch you because of canine ownership.
And for the record, I loooooove dogs. I usually prefer small dogs over big ones.(easier to hug, cuddle, and more portable!)

| why do alot of the guys at this site have a problem with dogs? Posted: 7/26/2009 9:19:39 PM | | I love how people confuse those of us who dislike canines with people who don't like animals in general. I pretty much like every animal EXCEPT for dogs. Dogs are entirely too needy and that has a lot to tell me about their owners. If you need a pet that's sole aspiration in life is to follow you everywhere and give (and subsequently need to receive) constant attention.. if thats a "turn on" for you.. we wouldn't get along. And thats putting aside the fact that dogs frequently smell bad, can't be trusted to not take a crap or a piss wherever they damned well please, frequently bite people (including small children) and are a constant annoyance with the whole begging for food, barking for attention and ever present excess of slobber issue. | |

That does not excuse pets that are allowed to get away with everything. As far as smelling bad- most pets need a bath from time to time. Everything pees & poops for god sakes- what will you be like when your kid wants constant attention (age 0-5; kids are needy too) ? ...or changing your kid's diaper?. Let me guess...
find somebody then that doesnt have pets & date them- stop your whining here!

I can understand not wanting that.
Trust me, that is a pain! I dated a lady who couldn't go ANYWHERE without her dogs, even just down to the local pub. Her dogs ruled her life almost. I am not that keen on dogs when they sleep on the same bed as you too.

Either that, or the person suffers from some condition that ends in "Disorder". Nobody suddenly goes into panic mode because a person has a pet dog; that just doesn't happen, you know?

First, not whining.. just adding my 2 cents to the conversation. Secondly, cats for example do not smell bad because they you know.. BATHE themselves. I also haven't heard too many reports of children being hospitalized by cats. Love cats. Also a big fan of reptiles/lizards. Birds too.. and fish... and horses those are fun. Oh yeah... basically I like everything except for dogs. Swear I said that already. I love how you ignored that fact and ended your note with "find someone without PETS instead of without DOGS". There is no reasoning with a dog lover. Best of luck with that.

| why do alot of the guys at this site have a problem with dogs? Posted: 8/18/2009 10:53:16 AM | My weekends are for my and my date. We hop in the car and drive several hours to another city, where we explore, have a nice coffee, dinner at a good restaurant, and spend the night at a decent hotel with a pool and whirlpool like Hampton Inn, Holiday Inn or Ramada Inn.
If she has a dog, she can't make the trip each weekend. The dog cant be in the car for 6 - 8 hours. We would have to eat fast food at a drive through. We would have to stay at a drive-in motel that smells bad. We can't take in a show at our destination city. We cant explore museums, galleries, malls. We can't go to a jazz club or dancing at night.
Weekends are for me to enjoy life, not sit in the backyard and guzzle beer because she has a needy dog.
If your life revolves around going for walks every night with a plastic bag full of dog sh!t, staring at every car that passes by to see if they spotted you and your giant expensive dog that could sport a saddle, then, you have issues.
If your weekends are spent at home, or driving to the nearest dog run park, and you haven't explored whats over the horizon, well, thats an entirely different issue.
Your dog, is a surrogate entity, a replacement for the male figure missing in your life.

If she has a dog, she can bring the dog with her to visit you for the weekend. During the 6-8 hour trip she can take brief stops to walk the dog. The dog can stay in the car for an hour or two during dinner. There are many pet friendly hotels that don't smell bad.
You can take in a show and leave the dog in the car for a couple of hours or find a local place to board the dog or maybe leave the dog in your girlfriends house or back yard.
Exploring museums, galleries, malls, dancing or jazz clubs at night..same as above. Dogs can be left for short periods of time. Simply check up on them once in a while and give them a walk as needed.
Get them some toys to keep them busy.
Dogs are not high maintenance.

| why do alot of the guys at this site have a problem with dogs? Posted: 8/18/2009 11:56:19 AM | Dude, if you leave a dog in the car in Chicago or New York City in July for 5 hours, while you walk through a museum, there will be many many police officers waiting for you when you return.
Dogs are useless, serve no purpose, thats it. My life has been dog free since day one, and I can't think of any reason why I should own one. I don't need an animal for company. I have real human friends for that. My kids never relied on a dog to play with, they played with other kids.
Simply put, people get dogs for 2 reasons....everyone else has one, so you better get one too, or, social issues with an inability to relate to other humans, so you get a dog for companionship, because the animal wont judge you and tell you that you really need to interact with people more.
Spare me, heard it all from other psychotic dog fanatics!

| why do alot of the guys at this site have a problem with dogs? Posted: 8/18/2009 12:10:24 PM | I don't mind looking at smaller cuter dogs , personally, but I'm badly allergic to all of them and it causes my asthma to get really bad, so I can't ever really be around one or even in somebody's house sitting on their furniture and stuff when they have one -- or at least I can't hang around there for very long, more than like an hour or so. Has always been that way for me since I was born basically. So consequently I never got used to dogs really. I prefer cats personally, which I'm only very mildly (if at all) allergic to (I have a couple). I just like their 'personalities' better too, how they act, etc. They're more like me, I think... I also don't trust or like any bigger dogs coming around me at all, especially not any of those breeds like pit bulls, rottweilers, and so on. Sorry, but , just for me, that's an automatic stop-sign if she has a dog at all because of my severe allergies, but especially if it's a large breed dog because frankly I'm just not comfortable around them. | |

Posted: 8/18/2009 2:27:25 PM | | Just be glad he eliminated himself so early on i knlw i would never date someone that had a problem like they just hated dogs my god come on. If theres a health issue (allergys) or some kind of fobia I can understand. Its been my experiance that people who have pets seem more pleasant to be around theyre more laid back down to earth kind of people rather than people who dont seem more arrogant, irratable and have this holyer than thou attitude, not all but most.

Dogs are useless? Wow! Did you have some sort of bad experience? Not sure why such hostility towards animals (dogs).
I am a huge animal lover in general, and have two dogs myself. They are part of my family, lovable, entertaining and great companions. I am capable of socializing with people (and do), but if you liked/love animals you can relate as to why we have them in our lives.
You don't have to like them, but there is no reason to be so unsympathetic towards them.
