Great post tune !

Working Class Hero is still one of those "ice water in the face" type of songs, and it still has an impact on me. It has more to say about society today, than we'd all want to admit. Had someone written it today, many people would still agree with it's message.

As soon as your born they make you feel small,
By giving you no time instead of it all,
Till the pain is so big you feel nothing at all,

A working class hero is something to be,
A working class hero is something to be.

They hurt you at home and they hit you at school,
They hate you if you're clever and they despise a fool,
Till you're so %%%%%% crazy you can't follow their rules,

A working class hero is something to be,
A working class hero is something to be.

When they've tortured and scared you for twenty odd years,
Then they expect you to pick a career,
When you can't really function you're so full of fear,

A working class hero is something to be,
A working class hero is something to be.

Keep you doped with religion and sex and TV,
And you think you're so clever and classless and free,
But you're still %%%%%%% peasants as far as I can see,

A working class hero is something to be,
A working class hero is something to be.

There's room at the top they are telling you still,
But first you must learn how to smile as you kill,
If you want to be like the folks on the hill,

A working class hero is something to be.
A working class hero is something to be.

If you want to be a hero well just follow me,
If you want to be a hero well just follow me.

- "Working Class Hero"

Coupled with it's simplistic driven guitar strumming, it's highly effective. Unlike McCartney, with his Disneylike story lyrics of "la la la' love , Lennon sometimes held up a mirror that not only reflected his own face - but yours as well. Sometimes the image wasn't a pretty one, but it was always a real one.

One of the things I loved about Lennon was his ability to be at opposite ends of the pole sometimes. He really combined that "Yin and Yang" oriental mentality in the dualism of his art and life.

A person who started out as a violent teenage misogynist, and who wound up a man of peace and a supporter of women's rights. His quick wit, and deep thought. An idealist, with a touch of cynicism thrown in to give some balance. A working class mentality, but yet a millionaire many times over.

That's a rare gift for a person to have, to be able to keep a foot firmly placed in two different views of the world at the same time, and yet still make sense.

Double Fantasy is an awesome album......several favorites on there, I'm losing you....Beautiful Boy.....

I couldn't listen to Beautiful Boy without tearing up for a long time after John was killed, it's very upsetting to hear the hope and references to the future in the song and think of what happened to him....and for such a senseless reason.....

When Julian recorded a few years later, it took my breath away how much he looked and sounded like his dad.....

One year I gave all my closest friends The John Lennon Collection for a Christmas gift, and it's still one of their favorites......

Yoko opened John up to a different way of thinking. He would not be the man we listened to and loved without her influence......

Have you noticed with the exception of George the Beatles had very long and rich relationships? Unusual with that level of celebrity......

Hi toon, don't "hide your love away....." come on back, this is like a dysfunctional family here, lots of infighting but lots of love too...... I miss ya....

George was married to Olivia for 23 years. I'd say that was a pretty long relationship. Of course, it was cut sadly short when we lost George.

fieryredhead's problem is pure ignorance! She's just a stupid little girl. Her parents (if she ever knew them) probably didn't understand music either......or she thinks rebelling is a way of being independent. I'd be willing to bet she likes rap.....(which would PROVE she has no understanding of what music is!). --By the way.........she should go back to school to learn the basics of spelling..........'their' should have been spelled THEY'RE---short for THEY ARE........(which they aren't!!)

All you need is love- john lennon.. then the beatles broke up????

why dident he give peace a chance when yoko sang on the rolling stones circus thingy.. GWAD! that could have been use to interogate people right there..

Personally I feel peace comes at a price sometimes that price is war. Sad but such is the way of man.. They tried to appease Hitler and 6 million died; they tried to appease Stalin and millions more died. Do I like war,, hell no!, do I want war hell no! will it come again and again.. yes, it will and it will be worse then before..

I remember the shock I felt when I heard about the shooting. I used to wear Lennon-like round metal frame glasses in my younger days.
Went out to buy his last album (not CD).
I was a graduate student and worked late at night in the labs while listening to his songs.
'.... imagine there is no country....'
Now I wonder where did I get my POF id?

How well did you know Yoko? Or do you just believe everything you read in the tabloids? She didn't derserve the treatment she got just for getting tired of the B.S. in the industry or for wanting her honey to enjoy his family as well as other meaningful pursuits. I'm sure John wouldn't appreciate this slander. Please take some soul time and learn to become part of the solution, not part of the problem.

In December 1969, I was a twelve-year old boy tobogganing in a park in Toronto. A plane flew overhead and began writing letters in the sky. After about an hour the plane had written WAR IS OVER. John and Yoko were doing a worldwide campaign to end war, and were spending Christmas near Toronto.

In December 1980 I lit a candle for John Lennon, and hoped that his passing may turn the world towards peace.

If John Lennon were alive today, he would be one of the vocal artists trying to change the world. Bono from U2, Madonna, Neil Young (and Crosby Still and Nash), and many other artists are using their fame to try and make things better. Every one of them was influenced by John Lennon.

A lot of idealism and {cough} pipe dreams thinking he is going to bring peace. Or even that Yoko did him in. One could argue just as well that the drug habit did him in. After all inviting the reporters to the Be In from their bedroom was like the epitome of a heroin addiction.

It could explain the paranoia, too. I have the US vs Lennon on my netflix list so eventually I will check it out.

I do not cared to be preached at either by a minister, pastor, rabbi, politician or John Lennon. Having said that their more melodic music has worked its way into my head in an under the radar fashion.

I found myself whistling those melodic tunes and later found out they were the beatles. So I finally had to buy my first Beatles CD last year -- Love. I enjoy that remix a lot. I replay the hell out of it.

The LOVE CD is quite cool I think. There is nothing new under the sun for Beatle fans anymore, so this was about as good as it could get as far as something "new"

I like the fact that it remains pure Beatles without any other outside influence mostly. George Martins son did the project in tribute to his dad( I hear Martin Sr. is for the most part deaf now, so he couldnt have done it even if he wanted to) and ALL of the added mix sounds weaved in and out of the mix are all existing sounds originated by the Beatles in the studio, on tape, from archives, from existing songs, etc. Nothing added is new or manufactured by someone else, so to speak. What a great refreshing idea.

The Beatles LOVE {cirque du Soleil soundtrack} George Martin Sr indeed lost some of his hearing, but not all. Beethoven did on the other hand go DEAF! which still made him one of our great composers as well. So clearly I don't understand how you could say he couldn't have done it even if he wanted to. I suppose you're one too, not to read linEAR notes, when you buy an album. Stay tuned GM is to release a LOVE DVD DOCUMENTARY SOON; ABOUT THE MAKING OF LOVE. If George can't hear by then. You'll have some explaining to do about how he made that one deaf. Like Paul once sang "Cafe on the left bank" English Speaking People Talking Way to Far for THEIR EARS.

Sure, he sang "I Don't Wanna be a Soldier", "Imagine" and "Give Peace a Chance." They came after "Revolver", "Happiness is a Warm Gun" and "Revolution."

i think john was a "modern day prophet".
admittingley, i dont know that much about him, as i never really liked the beatles, or have listend to his music really.
but seeing pictures of him, after the beatles split, i can see what he was trying to do.
and it was verry brave at the time, as i suppose some pplz thought hes gone completeley mad.
yoko was a verry good influence on him, and she should be given more credit than she gets.
i think if john was alive today, hed be trying to spread the mssge of love and peace all over the world!
shame we have lost him.
