Any single RV rs here?

Having only limited funds, I bought a used van conversion and traveled thru 22 states in it. Smaller & easier to get around in versus an RV. Mostly stayed in parks & campgrounds during that year on the road. I set up a tent if I felt "safe" otherwise I slept on the pull out be in the van.

Has anyone run into RV Park snobbery where they won't let you in if your rig is older than 10 years and can't be a conversion van of any sort no matter what it's age? I was stunned at that last time I went out, so I slept in a parking lot in my van conversion, which is fully self contained right down to a ridiculous bathtub. I've been RV'g for years and never had it happen. All of a sudden one of the places I always used to stop on trips became a "resort". I used to have a 23' Winnebago that was excellent but it was just getting too old, then I moved to Little Fuhrerland (Manteca, California) with all it's insane, capricious and ridiculous laws (I know there's probably some redundancy there) and found I could only have something at my house if it fit on the driveway, which is only 20ft long. I like to have my MH where I am so I can leisurely and easily clean it and get it ready, or take off on the spur of the moment. Most summers it gets 110 here easily, and I don't enjoy going to locked storage out in the sun with no electricity to even run a fan while I'm trying to get ready for a trip. The heat saps my strength and I start the trip too ill to enjoy it!! Hence the smaller conversion van at 19 1/2 ft. But I was sure shocked at not being free to go all the places I used to go with it.
I have a 31' Airstream Land Yacht (trailer) too but nothing to pull it with at present. Maybe if I can trade the RV in for a pickup truck, I'll put a camper shell (is that what those things on the bed of the pick up truck are called? They're full campers) and get a tow package, sell this house and take off never to return. (The Pickup bed one for short trips, the AirStream for long hauls and extended stays.) The Escapees (SKP's) have wonderful programs for full timers.
I'm trying to learn new places to go over on the rugged California and Oregon coast where it's size will be a big plus factor. At least on the coast it's not so bad if you can't get into a park of some sort for the night. It's cool enough to sleep. When I was excluded from that park, I was in Las Vegas in the dead of summer when it doesn't drop below 120 at night -- what a nightmare! That was a gruesome experience being in that kind of heat with no way to cool down. Because I'm very chemically sensitive I couldn't run a generator or go into the air conditioned but smoke filled and air freshenered up casinos to cool off. It was terrible. I've been scared off by the experience and am just tentatively beginning to travel again. I've never been scared much of anything in the past. I don't like that feeling!
PS those of you with age and mileage restrictions on your emails and not able to receive pm's from your camping buds need to go into
MAIL/PROFILE then
MAIL SETTINGS and change who can contact you. (I capped that on purpose so it would be seen more easily. Some said they didn't know how to make the change).
I'm ready to find a camping/RV'g buddy. Anyone else live nearby or coming to visit Yosemite, Lake Tahoe or the coast?

Retired first time in 1996 (sold my new car Franchize). Been Single since 1996 (divorce final) Fulltime RVer since 1996 --30' Eldorado then 34' Safari Serengitti, Currently grounded, taking care of 89 yr old Father with Macular Degenerative in South Carolina and 90% Blind Living in RV in his Back Yard. Personal Web Site @ www.kennyhughes.net - has Motorhoming, my Musical Site, Family Trees, Picture Galleries, My Store, and whatever else I can dream up. (fun doing web stuff). Would be nice to find the right one, but its very enjoyable being set in ones ways. Might be the age thing as I'm 66 now going on 40. --

Thousands, I snowbird every winter. My two favorite spots, make that three are Slab City California, close to the Salton Sea, lots , and the camping is free. Boondocking so come prepared to be self sufficient. There are three singles clubs there that I know of. Another place is the LTVA area around Quartzite Arizona, small fees and a giant flea market scene in Jan-Feb. The last place is Yuma Arizona and the areas around it. Must be 50 RV parks with full facilities, pools, dance halls, everything. Spend about 4 months a year travelling around this area in my vintage Airstream. And you can always have a pet when you RV.Nothing better than having happy hour in the warm sun in the winter!!

The 10-year age limit is VERY common in parks that cater to seasonal RVers and the co-op/resort campgrounds in the northeast. It is very similar to a Home-Owners Association in a housing development. They create these rules to keep ratty old RVs out.

I've never seen it applied to short term campers though. Only to people wahnting a site for seasonal/perm use.

RE:

1. find a way to drive one (class A) to make sure it doesn't bother me. I have a motorcycle license and have driven trucks, etc. but not sure on this. Can't drive one unless you have one....?
2. actually live in one for a few weeks to be sure. As someone mentioned, rentals are expensive and not readily available.

It's just not true that rentals are hard to find and costwise, they aren't worse than what you'd spend in a hotel/drive vacation. I forgot to check where you live which would have been helpful about the license. No special license for driving one in the US.
It doesn't have to be a Class A to try it to see if you like it. Class C's are pretty good sized. If you can afford to buy a Class A , then you can afford to rent something for a couple of weeks and have a good time exploring as you do. That solves both dilemmas. There are extremley readily available in touristy areas, especially here in California. I would expect the same in Florida, Texas and other high tourist destinations. I live in a place that will give you great experience in almost anything you might encounter, except snow, unless you come in the winter and go up to Tahoe -& actually there was snow up there last week.
Fly out to Oakland or San Francisco Airport, rent an RV (google "rent an rv in Dublin California" and some things will come up for various companies- I am just more familiar with El Monte RV's service in the Dublin store). They help you with the transportation to get to them etc. Tons of Europeans and others do it every year.
You can fan out from there and go to all sorts of different venues to try it out. After you get your rental, use it to negotiate pretty standard city traffic and jammed interstate freeways as you get to either the California coastline (rugged and beautiful up here), head to the High Sierra Mountains, including Yosemite National Park just a couple of hours away, and some fairly challenging mountain driving, more challenging that a trip to Tahoe, down to Las Vegas, Grand Canyon, Arches National Monument, Bryce Canyon, Zion National Park.
Alternately fly in to LAX and do the same thing, fanning out from there to a different (and fabulous) kind of beaches, desert, mountains, the Southern entrance to Yosemite, and a much shorter drive to Las Vegas and all the places I mentioned after that. Make it your vacation and try it all out at the same time.

You were kidding, right? Please tell me you were kidding.
Doldrums is when you do the laundry and enjoy the sun. Engine? Wonder how all that sailing went on for the thousands of years before engines were invented. Engines are for when you have a deadline to meet in this modern rush, rush world, and really escaping that life is what this thread is all about at it's core.

hi Sandy
I am soon to retire and have been contemplating RVing for some time. I am single but concerned re expense. Do you have a home to return to or not. Winnipeg Manitoba is my home. Travel is in my blood but I am trying to accumulate $$ so as not to end up a bag lady ha ha(migt quite enjoy that).

I am getting a big goofy camper van in January, and plan on doing a little touring in a year or two. I notice that most RVers are retiree's, and wonder if there are any twenty something rubber tramps on here. I guess it's mostly for those who have the resources on hand, and with the economy the way it is, i imagine it is pretty prohibitive otherwise. I did see a few people with construction/contract jobs post, and that may be an option to consider.

My father used to live about 1/2 the year on the road, but he was a salesman, and the economy was a LOT different. I wonder what kind of odd jobs work well to suppliment an extended walkabout nowadays. Maybe I could put out tiny classified adds... from... my... van?

re;107 ...sometimes /oft times the more interesting people are those in the "ratty" rvs, check out "housetrucks" on your browser sometime....

Jeffers .....I spent 18 months on the road following my exit from the USAF...(1981 dodge wide body van) the key to working your way is to be flexible ,accepting what ever positions come your way ...I worked I don't know how many different"jobs" while I was on the road "finding myself"...everything from landscape work in various rv parks to dishwasher in local eateries...most every city (and many small towns too) have temp labor agencies that pay cash daily...I never ran out of gas ,went hungry nor had a single nicotine fit due to lack of funds....

wasn't a single Rv'er but I did camp when I was single - in a tent.
Then I married a guy with an RV - we had alot of fun - - one problem we had he's a permanent campsite person and I am definitely NOT - I think mobile home means MOBILE!
well we split up and he's got the camper - I can't haul it anyway.
I thought I'd get a popup or RV the kind you drive not tow but I'm not sure I want to do that right away
I've always loved camping - done it all my life but I'm afraid it would make me miss him if I try it alone
summa**** has ruined camping for me and I'll hate him till I die

I'm looking for an RV right now, and also looking for a lady that would like to explore with me and my daughter.

My first trip was from Florida to Kansas, and the trip in June will be to Alaska
