Whats with women that invite their dogs into the bedroom to sleep?
Posted: 10/20/2008 3:48:11 AM
My pup Trudy sleeps in my room with me. I've always had a dog sleep in my room with me and that wouldn't change on account of dating somebody or anything of that sort. My pup will still be there for me in the end long after he's gone for whatever reason. It's a no brainer if he forces me to choose between him and my lovely puppy (granted yes she's a HUGE 50 lb German Shepherd/Pit/Lab Mix to be calling her a puppy BUT she is my BIG BABY!).

I am offended when those say:: "It's just a dog....." For me it's NOT just a dog... she's my furry kiddo!

So one must absolutely must love dogs if they want to be with me.

ok,you do not have to change for anyone.keep putting down men,and let your pets stay in bed with you,the old maids club has unlimited openings!!!

1. Not allowing anyone to come into YOUR home and make changes as they see fit is not "putting down men". I'm sure if a woman comes into a man's home and wants things to change they don't see it as "putting down women" either if they don't comply. Pfft.

2. If you date a person who's dog sleeps on the bed - DON'T SLEEP THERE if it bothers you. That's what YOUR bed (sans pets) is for. Your options are:
A. go home and sleep there/have all sex at your house.
B. end the relationship.
C. ADJUST!

So pick one.

3. Anyone who comes into your life and makes you choose them over ANYONE/ANYTHING you love or care about is someone who needs to turn around and walk away. The ultimate sign of insecurity is to be jealous of someone/something else getting attention from someone you (claim to) care about. Get a pastime.

4. MOST women can actually live happily without men if the alternative is to date men who try and force control. Believe it or not we'd much rather be old maids than compromise ourselves - we'd actually prefer it. So don't threaten us with pleasant options. I get the feeling that most men give us the "you'll grow old alone" speech because they assume that like them, we fear it. Not true...even if there's no SO, women are far too busy with friends/family/activities to really ever grow old alone. Give it up.

If anything, men who are controlling are the ones who may grow old alone if the alternative is permanent singleness...women quite simply don't have to deal with it.

lady you can quote me all day.fact is,people that choose pets over people will always be alone with their pets.i have never suggested anyone choose another over their pets,if you learn to read my other post i plainly stated, you should not have to choose.i would not get rid of mine for anyone.but most people do not sleep with pets, and would not expect a mate to either!go put words in one of your exes mouths,it won't work on me.now, the women on here all have profiles, including you, that state they are looking for men.i noticed one thing you all have in common.none of your profile say the future man must tolerate pets, mainly big dogs,in the bed!so,put up or shut up.start putting words in your own mouth.hence, the old maids club, and you must be aware of it,as i stated, without putting words in your mouths.no hidden meanings in what i say,my words are very plain.you put that in your profiles, then you can find needy men to sleep with you,and all your barnyard menageries can sleep with you all and otherwise take over the home.was that plain enough, want to try to put more words,or try to find hidden meanings on me?one more thing,IF SO MANY WOMEN CAN LIVE WITHOUT MEN,WTF ARE THEY,YOU DOING ON HERE?

^^^Dude, relax. I quoted you cause you said something that I found interesting. I see it a lot and wanted to respond to it. I don't see how a relationship gets far enough to even deal with this issue. People who are into animals and people who aren't should naturally not end up dating long anyway, so unless you're a control freak or insecure, how would this come up?

I have cats, they sleep on my bed. PERIOD. If someone doesn't want to sleep with my cats, they can go home to THEIR house, where there are no cats. VERY simple. I can easily focus the whole relationship to their house where there are no cats and we can spend time together outside my home. But I won't stop the cats from sleeping on the bed or get rid of them...they can deal with that. A man who's ok with sleeping with me and the cats (if I don't send them home, since I am not one to share my bed anyway) isn't needy, he's either an animal lover, or willing to adjust.

My profile that states I'm looking for nothing outside of what POF makes me choose in order to have a profile. If I don't meet someone who works with my life, OF COURSE I'll stay single; gladly. That was my point, way to miss it.

I've lived with out men since I moved out when I was 20 (wait, no dad or brothers, so since birth) - as I get older it just gets easier. What I am doing here is posting on message boards (thus the thingys that show up with my tag/picture attached that you're responding to), and leaving myself open for someone who does mesh with my life, should they come along.

The point is, man - that if YOU don't like pets in your bed, then that's cool...just don't have any in your bed, and don't date anyone who does if you plan on staying at their house. Beyond that, what people do isn't your concern. Coming here and preaching pet bedroom etiquette isn't your place...they aren't complaining about what you do, so don't worry about what they do, dig?

Live your life, and leave others to live theirs.

^^^Ok so we agree. Fabulous.

I assume "it" means sex. Yes, of course I could go without sex but I prefer not to - I kind of like it. I also prefer men for sex, but they're not necessary, and having sex with with a man does not mean he's "needed" in a traditional sense tho many men might look at it differently. I doubt the body I have has anything to do with wanting or getting sex - I am sure people of all types want and do the same.

However none of that has to do with animals, or even beds for that matter.

Well,.seems you just don't get it. I have four human kids, grands also, but my dog is my baby. She is a 9 year old Eski, 35 lbs of love and devotion. She is my first doggie-love and I would choose her companionship over that of any human. Moreover, if she takes a dislike to any man I date I take her *advice*. She has slept with me since the day I brought her home at 9 weeks old. Thus far I have not encountered any problems but then I don't sleep with boyfriends. When I find *the one* and marry my little dog will sleep with us.

trry most of the people who let their dogs sleep with them are true animal lovers. Not wanna be animal lovers. True animal lovers are drawn to true animal lovers and would never date or stay with someone is not a true animal lover. Animal lovers do not mind dogs/cats kissing their faces mouths or sleeping with them. All the people who are not true animal lovers can date the none animal lovers lol. Problem solved.

People who truley are pet lovers don't have to prove anything to anyone. They just have a strong desire to be close to their pets who in many cases are much better than alot of people. They are loyal, devoted, affectionate, give you love no matter how bad a mood your in or the bad day you had.

As far as a pet licking someones face they do it out of pure love and affection. They are not cows looking for a salt lick lol. Please trrp do yourself a favor and don't have pets get fish or something you don't have to show love too like a dog or cat. Not knocking fish, fish lovers, just making a point about giving physical affection and attention like sleeping with them.

My dog has been with me through the worst time of my life, divorce, losing my mom, when was very ill and she has given me so much love and compassion. Everytime I cried she was there to comfort me.

There is a reason for the saying a dog is a mans best friend. I go further and say a dog is humans best friend. In fact my dog saved my life when my house was on fire and I was sleeping. She scratched me on the chest till I woke up and smelt the smoke. My dog is tiny btw.

My point is there are people who own animals and then there are people who love and adore their pets. Why because they don't let us down like alot of people do.

I can't bring myself to read your posts in their entirety because you can't type and the whining is boring, but I'd just like to point out that you're not two years old, the world doesn't revolve around you, so grow up and stop acting like it does.

Gosh, I didn't realize that having a big slobbery mass of love in my bedroom was a bad thing until today. I am a woman who allows her big 90 pound black lab to sleep on the bed with her. Why?

She is my companion and gives unconditional love to me. She keeps me company when there are no others around. She chewed the heck out of a guy's butt who tried to come in my house unwelcomed. She is a protector and friend.

She isn't on the bed when intimacy is going on. She is off playing somewhere in the house. She doesn't get on the bed until invited and she stays at the foot of the bed between me and the door.

If it means I have to be single the rest of my life, well, I guess I would have to stay single. She is a part of my life that is constant, and doesn't run away at the first sign of hard times!

catkin I so agree with you about staying single. If a man does not like my pets or the fact that I spoil them then I don't want to be with them period. lol Like I said in an earlier post that I only date animal lovers. I have to make sure they love animals not just like animals. I have a 4 pound dog that does not take up any room on the bed. Infact you would not know she is there. One date came to my house and my dog is especially friendly and affectionate and likes to be held. She tried to get on my dates lap and he shoved her away aggresively and she fell on her back. I nearly went balistic. I said why did you do that? He said she was sniffing his crotch. lol she is too short to get near his crotch. What a head case. I told him to leave asap. He was like why. i said no one ever hurts my pets. They are like children to me. Why would I want someone like that. Sorry but there is no middle ground when loving a pet. You either do or don't. I love others animals too. I never have a problem with a dog coming after me because they can sense I love them. Even though they are not my pets I still love them.

In mho the pets were there long before the dates and if the dates are that uptight and rigid then they can move on down the road. The pets take priority if the date is a putz. If the date is cool with it. All are happy and no one is hurt. Didn't anyone ever watch Beethoven?

Actually I think mine does say I have 3 dogs....that re my furry children.....so since I would not get rid of my children...its kinda implied about the dogs. Also people who choose their pets over people tend to eventually find someone who likes pets as much as they do....so saying they will be alone is just not all together correct.
You are right on it being rude to let your pets crawl all over or lick your company.....I am assuming we should get to do it first.....lol!

Sorry...couldn't resist that one! :) Yes it is rude to let your pets jump on people or lick them. Most pet owners have good pet ettiqette. Did I spell that right?

Most of us could live without a man....its just nice to have company once in a while. If you can't live w/o the opposite sex.....you need therapy!

Its obvious that people all have their limits or un written rules. I make it plain to my dates before hand that my pets are very special and if they have any problems with pets let me know because I would not want to date someone who has hang ups about pets. I certainly down't and if my date has pets I would spoil them just like I do my own. Its all in what you find speical and worth making a prioirty in your life. I do not treat my date bad nor do I deny him anything if I like him alot. In fact if he loves my pets and they love him he is in for all kinds of bonuses lol.

I don't have a dog, but sometimes my cat will come in and lay at the foot of the bed with me....especially if I am not feeling well.....

But she does have her own bed, elsewhere, but as any cat owner can tell you, cats pretty much do what they want, when they want, and how they want.

I can see why all the posters have stopped posting since trry turned this thread into his personal venting ground to rip people apart. Me thinks you need to get some lol. I have no problem with men, dates, or anger. You have proven nothing except you have lots of time on your hands to be here defending yourself over and over. I have a life. I do not have to explain to you nor does the thousand other people who do not have photoes have to explain or be labeled by mr know it all. Our reasons are personal and none of your business. All this defensiveness about being a man has nothing to do with this topic. I know alot of men who love and spoil their dogs more than I do. We are all different and have our own lives to live as we chose. I am sure if I wanted to be like you I could find tons of things to rag on you about that would be a reason why you don't get dates. All this is so immature and uncalled for. Let those that want to have dogs/pets sleep with them do so and those that don't do so. What is the big freakin deal?

I have to agree with nytb. To each their own. If you don't like it find someone who does what you like. Don't cut down someone because they do something you don't like. I have a small dog and she loves people and loves to be held. Everyone that meets her wants to hold her. She is so lovable and yes she likes to give kisses. No one complains. You see I only hang out with animal lovers who are not uptight rigid anal people with a bunch of hangups. There are much more serious things to be worried about than a dog in bed or on your clothes or kissing you. If your that uptight then don't be around animals period. That will solve the problem all together. I could care less if I have hair all over me. Same with a child I could care less if he or she kisses me with candy all over their face. Love is love and those minor things mean nothing in the scheme of things.

tryp, I have read all the posts, and I find your posts unreasonable and inflammatory rather than representing a calm and sensible opinion.

I don't know how this thread moved from why people let their pets sleep on the bed to a debate on whether doing so means you love your pet.

Allowing animals to sleep on the bed or lick other people's faces or jump on them doesn't equal loving animals. Sleeping on the bed is a personal preference, although, I think if you have no room to compromise on something so petty with a potential partner, it's pretty damn pathetic.

Really, allowing pets to jump, lick, slobber, etc tells me those owners have lost the ability to function as a part of society. It's not polite to let animals or children behave in such a fashion, and don't even TRY to insinuate that comment means I don't like animals. I have two dogs (one a rescue), two cats (one a rescue) and a child. I also foster, at my own expense, for a local dog rescue. I expect all of them to behave politely because I am a RESPONSIBLE petowner, parent and citizen in our society.

Ok, to the OP and all the people who seems to feel they have to be mean and derogatory in their responses.

He is ENTITLED to his opinion. Just because you do not agree, does not make him a bad person or anyone else who agrees with him for that matter. These posts always start out nice and funny and then someone decides they have to try a provoke someone who is posting, either the OP or a responder. Give it a rest already!

Not everyone is every going to agree, but I think the point was - people who force others who are spending the night to sleep with an animal - no one should do that, especially pet owners. Why would you want to force your pet on someone, give them a chance to decide if they are comfortable with that and go from there. Cats and dogs can be easily trained to sleep in a different place other than your bed.

My dog knows that when I have company, he has his own beds in various rooms of the house, not an issue. Granted, if someone was stupid enough to try and make me choose between keeping my dog and keeping him, guess who goes out the door!
