Besides the tribal stuff, just a heads up my tattoo guy was telling me that if you have a star tattoo on your lower back in Japan it's actually a mark of a hooker so just a heads up.

Also imho (again only an opinion!) but if you get a tattoo on your lower back it's for others to see, if this is something for you, get it in a place where you can see it and enjoy it ;)

My opinion ( and its worth nothing because it goes against mainstream and current social proof trends ) is that I will never date/marry a woman with tatts -- I see them and get turned off immediately

I feel like I should mention it before you hear somewhere else - the thing about not being able to get an epidural is a MYTH. Yes, there are doctors who will refuse to do it because they think the ink will be transferred into your spinal fluid, but this is not true. The ink is not just floating around under the skin loosely. wiki.bmezine.com has some good info on it.

I think it's a good location because it can be hidden or revealed (without dressing indecently!) as you choose, and will never sag or wrinkle, and is very unlikely to get fat. I have a little silhouette of a wren there myself. However, although I do like it I think I'm going to get it inked over with a 1/3 back design, since it wasn't my own concept or design and was sort of a practice for my main tat.

In any case, some guys like them; some don't. If it's a deal breaker is he the right guy? It's your body, not his, and you surely want a guy who's happy with your body the way *you* like it?

chicagohockeygirl19...

with all due respect, if you did not want to have your motives questioned, then you should not have brought them up. since it was you that published your reasoning, we as respondants assume that you are asking our opinion.

just remember this when posting in the forums, "if you post it, we will respond".

all the best to you.

Getting a tattoo anywhere will turn some people off. Not getting a tattoo will turn no one off. So why risk limiting yourself or turning off someone you might be interested in.

tramp stamp ,or trailer park tattoos as they are called are usually symbionic with girls that like doggie fashion and the guy needs something to stare at when she is on all fours, coupled with the girl that has a tongue ring she is a double slut, this is what tattoo artist called them,i have never dated a girl with a tramp stamp,as i probably was more intrigued by a girl with an intellectual stimuli, but thats just personal taste.i do not like tattoos ofr the simple reason i will not pay somone to draw on my body and advertise their work for life ,but their is a tribal thing going on their ,my sister has tattoos and she looks like she has been banged by a whole legion of rock bands .

Sure, but being tattooed also turns some guys on. So why risk excluding those guys by not getting inked?

Yes, tramp stamps. I'm not a slutty kind of girl in the least bit, but my lower back is one of the places that I'm considering getting a tattoo sometime in the near future. It would be nice to get a few opinions from some of the men out there.

Maybe before they were popular people thought that but now it seems like the majority of younger women have them. I don't see them as slutty or makes you a tramp. 16 year old girl next door just got one done, looks great too... (wonder if her mom has one? ) anyways... I dont see anything wrong with getting one and with all of them out there you'll just blend in better lol, I actualy notice more now when a girl doesn't have one.

Point, aim, shoot!

Sorry, couldnt resist

It would be funny to see a girl put "Here please, not the hair" in her "trampstamp" lol

Well im just wondering why you decided to get peoples opinions on this, if your the sort of person who likes tattoo's then who gives a damn what other people think. If you want a tattoo on your lower back then get one but remember tattoo's are for life so only get it if your really sure you want it and not just to impress other people.

It's trendy. That's all I think.

The only reason I've never gotten a tattoo is cuz I can't think of something I want on my body forever. And I'm not that great of an artist....so when I do draw something I just iron it on a tshirt. When I get sick of that I just turn the t shirt into a rag.

I don't think if you get sick of your tat, you could turn your lower back into a rag.

Actually, I decided that I was going to get one with him when I turned 18 a few months before he died. It's been over a year since then and I've always intended to get one, only now I've decided to get a different design. This isn't some spur of the moment decision based entirely on grief. I appreciate everyone's opinions and honesty here, but I really didn't post this to have my motive for getting the tattoo evaluated.

Honey, you asked for 'help' in seeking opinions, so yes, the motive for the tattoo is VERY important. Regardless of technology to remove them, a tattoo is a LIFETIME committment. So don't kid yourself.

Now, for the tramp stamp.... if you choose to look like B Class Porn Queens, a Girls Gone Wild chick & every other slutty chick out there that has a tramp stamp [usually it's coupled with the dangly navel ring for full effect], then by all means, go for it!

I got my tattoo, my one & only tattoo, 21 years ago when it wasn't trendy for a gal to have a tattoo unless she was a biker chick. LOL In fact, I got a LOT of hell for it & didn't care because I buck the trends, I'm my own person & it's MY body.

With that said, I sure as hell don't like knowing I paved the way for the trash I've seen in the past 5 years. IF you are going to get a tattoo - get it for all of the RIGHT reasons & make sure it's beautiful & something you will be proud of to wear on your body 20,30,40,50 years from now. DO NOT get it because you are influenced by the masses & 'oh it looks cool'. And by ALL means get it where you can see & admire it!!! If you get it put anywhere on the back of your body, it tells me you put it there for OTHERS to see it since that's the only ones who CAN see it.

Unimaginative; no longer holds any shock value; a sign of buying into a desperate, image-conscious culture. Reveals everything about her attitude and nothing about her intelligence, or lack of it, or personality. Irrespective of the sex of the wearer I've always viewed them as a waste of money and clear flesh.

DharmaF, you come across as a wee bit judgemental for someone who 'bucks the trends' and believes she can do what she likes with her own body. I'm sure you think you're meta-cool for getting in there before it was fashionable and not doing it for fashion, so you're in a position to label every woman with a tattoo on her lower back as a 'slutty chick'.

And putting a tattoo on your back doesn't mean it's not for you; it means you like the look of the tattoo in that place. That's like saying you don't style your hair to look the way *you* want to look, but to impress, since it's outside your field of vision. Why are you so prepared to attack?

Ha ha. I can't agree more with floridascot. Pretty young girls look like trialer trash the minute they turn around, I immediately think "looks like an invite to take it up the chute", then if they are with a guy I size him up thinking "I know where he likes to put it, I wonder if he does guys too?". Sometimes this can be followed by "oh well, at least the stupid people can't reproduce that way, maybe that's the new birth control". I'm also sick of looking a their plumber's butt because their pants are ridicously low so they can show off their tramp stamp - the new cleavage. Gross. Yes, I am well aware in some cases none of that will be true, but I think it every time, just the same. LOL.

I think a little ankle tat is pretty sexy, but the lower back is just trashy.

Hey, I don't mean to be unkind, but why in the world would you care what anybody else thought about what you did with your own body? Do it or don't...it should be completely up to you...ESPECIALLY if it's supposed to be in memory of your friend. You don't need opinions from idiots like me...it's your body, girl.

JOOLY you said "and will never sag or wrinkle, and is very unlikely to get fat".
A 20 something I know had a baby, lost the weight after, her precious $600 skank tatt is screwed, there are stretch marks all in it. You see, all the young ladies with screwed tatts you don't see because they are covered up now, but they are pushing strollers anyway. Another friend had Tweety on her hip, during pregancy he looked like he had a huge brain hemorrage. His head is still whacked long after baby. Poor Tweety. I've also seen several people, males and females, who have skewed tatts because they were muscled and now have flabby bodies, or less - or more muscle. I'm sure they thought they would always be in shape when they were 18. So not true in a huge amount of the population. My Dad mentioned the other day he thought it was novel that my brother in law had "those fake tattoo's". I had to tell him, "Dad, those are real. You can't tell what they are because he got them over 20 years ago". They look all blurry, all of them, and they were clear to begin with, he's got pictures. He's only 44, I guess I'll get to see them when he's 60 too. That is reality, in as little as 15 years your tatt will be different, and likely not as pretty by any means, no matter what. I hope all these young "trend setters" are prepared to keep visiting their artists, and willing to get them covered over with bigger and more expensive tattoo's, but there's only so much fixing you can do. Also keep in mind, if you get scratched by a tree branch or or something, it will likely require fixing. If you can't get the guy who did it originally, which you likely won't after 10 or so years, you may have to pay a little more, they don't like to "fix" other people's work and so charge more.

It might just depend on the size and exactly where on the lower back you are thinking of getting it.

When I hear tramp-stamp I think of huge tatts that pretty much spread from hip to hip with some sort of bland tribal pattern, and those are the ones that I can't stand. But for some reason, if it ends up something MUCH smaller (at least to start), off-center, or not peeking above the belt/panty line that registers as something different than a trampstamp in my mind.

And I agree with previous posters, if you're getting it to remember your friend it should be somewhere that you can see it.

Tatoos are like Harley Davidsons. They are very popular but, they aren't for everyone.

Personally, I feel a tatoo shoud be concealable when wearing formal attire to formal events. There is nothing cheaper looking than a woman who dresses like a million dollars yet, her tatoo is what gets all the attention. I was recently attending a wedding where the very striking woman looked cheap because her (medium sized) tatoo showed through her white dress.... that's the first thing you noticed about her as she turned around.....yuk!

You're absolutely right. I was asking merely out of curiosity. Frankly, I could care less if people don't like what I put on my body because it's not their choice. I've gotten a lot of opinions from guys who know me and now I wanted to get some perspective from a group of guys who don't know me at all. I assure you that none of these opinions are going to influence my decision one way or the other.

Logic, logic, logic. No one, even the guys who like ink, is going to say "You aren't inked so I'm not interested" . Many will say "Tatoo's, Yuck".
