| What do you think about lower back tattoos? Posted: 8/8/2007 4:54:07 PM | I have one, and I love it. I have a small vine of flowers that I drew for the tattoo artist, with the Chinese symbol for Nurse under it. I have had it for a few years, and I still don't regret it. However, like another poster said, it IS painful! I have other tattoos as well, but that one hurt the worst hands down! Just make sure it is something that defines who you are, and you won't regret it.
Now that I think about it, I might be that overweight girl with too many tattoos that roses referred too........ kidding.

| What do you think about lower back tattoos? Posted: 8/8/2007 5:07:54 PM | Msg. 50 - Your suggestion is like the House Doctor telling everyone to paint their house magnolia, just because no-one's particularly offended by that colour. And who actually prefers magnolia to every other colour? Most people certainly go for something a bit more interesting, given the choice.
You can't live your life worrying that every action might be a turn off to a subsection of attractive guys, can you? Or should said guys instead be thinking "If I exclude the girls with ink, I might end up excluding someone I would really like"?
Either way, that's a sappy way to live life.

MY logic still stand from msg 50. It just makes sense.
Personally tatoos aren't a deal breaker but it does make an up hill battle for the person with the tattoo.

| What do you think about lower back tattoos? Posted: 8/9/2007 10:20:44 AM | | It's not silly; I just prefer guys that like the look of tattoos, piercings, dyed hair, all that jazz, even if they don't have them themselves. It's nice to have tastes in common. If I dress in The Gap, I'll find guys who like the look of girls who dress in The Gap. Why would I do that to myself? | |

jooly: DharmaF, you come across as a wee bit judgemental for someone who 'bucks the trends' and believes she can do what she likes with her own body. I'm sure you think you're meta-cool for getting in there before it was fashionable and not doing it for fashion, so you're in a position to label every woman with a tattoo on her lower back as a 'slutty chick'.
Did I say every? No, I did not. Hang on, I have to call Gloria Steinem & ask her if she feels meta-cool for getting in on that feminism craze before it was fashionable.
And putting a tattoo on your back doesn't mean it's not for you; it means you like the look of the tattoo in that place. That's like saying you don't style your hair to look the way *you* want to look, but to impress, since it's outside your field of vision. Why are you so prepared to attack?
Perception, honey, perception.
It's always funny to watch who picks apart a post for a couple of lines then misses the logical advice given.

| What do you think about lower back tattoos? Posted: 8/9/2007 10:17:42 PM | I am honestly not into the tattoo thing. I see a tatoo, and I tend to reason that they got it in that place for a reason. So if it's in the lower tback, they obviously want guys to look at their ass more. You said it yourself... it's a tramp stamp.
Happy Hunting! :) | |

Well, I would assume she doesn't accuse her friends of jumping on the wagon because it was trendy and point out that she was doing it waaaay before everyone thought it was cool.

| What do you think about lower back tattoos? Posted: 8/10/2007 4:47:31 AM | Never heard of a "tramp stamp" before. As for me, I don't like to judge people. All I know is I don't want one.
If someone is interested in being my g/f, it might put me off. The place, the design, whatever. But I don't want to have to tell her her body is now a turn-off for me. So many women have worries about their bodies, I don't want to add to that.
Also, msg #45 and msg #50 both make good points.
But I doubt it matters. There are plenty of guys out there who want to date girls with tats. Just make sure that in 20 years time, you don't become a woman who wants to date the types of guys who DON'T like tats. Because then you'll be lucked out.

| What do you think about lower back tattoos? Posted: 8/11/2007 3:59:09 PM | I don't really think much about it one way or the other, although I tend to not like a lot of tattoos on women in general. Especially if they're darker in colour and cover a lot of visible skin. I find masculine looking/biker style tattoos on women unattractive.
To me, the reason why you get a tattoo is as important as anything else. Just getting a permanent mark on your body for the hell of it just isn't something that I understand. Getting something that has a significant, and permanent, meaning in your life I can understand. Your reasons for getting a tattoo, OP, seem more reasonable to me than many others I've heard.
One of my ex's got three tattoos done while we were together. Only one of them has any meaning at all, and it's the crappiest looking one. They're at least in locations that probably won't distort too much as she gets older.
A close friend of mine has both his kid's names tattoo'ed in large cyrillic style lettering around each forearm. I don't think it gets much more significant than that.
I don't have any tattoos of my own and didn't really want any for the longest time. In the last couple years though, my opinion about it has changed a bit because I found something that did mean something to me, that was very unlikely to change, that I wouldn't mind expressing through a tattoo.

| What do you think about lower back tattoos? Posted: 8/11/2007 5:52:30 PM | I had to read some of the answers and JUST laugh at these guys, first "tramp stamp" and I thought "no way.." That is an old put down by guys who have low self esteem, like pre-emptibe rejection. Really there is a sexual connotation to the tatoo and that is that it is best viewed from behind while she is on her hands and knees... and most guys just can't handle that.. want sugar and spice and everything nice.. and a safe grrrrl in bed..
Well LOL wake up guys.. this is 2007 and that gal with a tatoo is probably a nurse, lawyer, IT tech.. and NOT a tramp.. and I bet she has decorum in public and has a wild side too if you were man enough to deal with ity and not freak out.
I think the answers on this TOPIC are everything you need to know about a guy.. and if he really likes women, or just claims too, or if he is confident or not as a guy.
I have no tatoos personally, but like a lower back tatoo and usually will spend some time making sure that it is even on both sides.. done correctly.. discrette piercings are OK as well...
If I meet a virgin at my age, I'll point her to the nunnery.. if I meet a gal with a lower back tatoo.. it is hands and knees time... LOL

| What do you think about lower back tattoos? Posted: 8/11/2007 6:05:42 PM | I imagine tattoo's once had a true meaning to them - they were symbolic of, say, a tribe. Now, any "artsy" person thinks they are the best and paints themself with some chinese writing or a butterfly.
Personally, and of course, these are always personal opinions, I think I like a girl with enough discipline to refrain some such behavior. Again, some guys may like it, some may not, the real point is that you, yourself, should like it then let the rest follow. I think the best art is a clear canvas ;)

| What do you think about lower back tattoos? Posted: 8/11/2007 6:36:57 PM | I would say to anyone, it's your body and feel free to decorate it any way you like. But What do I think about lower back tats ummm ..overdone, trendy, don't work on all women.
personally, i prefer head to toe skin and removable jewelry...that's sexy.
hmmm. ..if i were gonna get a tat...probably would get a sienna non permanent one first...you know, try it out for size....it'll wear off....and not be there forever...unless forever is what you're looking for.
i don't think it's trashy however, it's more a sign of the times....

| What do you think about lower back tattoos? Posted: 8/11/2007 10:27:26 PM | Tattoos on a woman don't bother me. But . . .
I worked at a waterfront dive once. This lady would come in; she had lots of tattoos. She had them put on when she was in her thirties and forties. Problem was, now she was in her sixties. With the wrinkled skin, those tattoos looked pretty bad.

You obviously don't know Gloria Steinem.
Paving the way does not nor will ever equal doing something before it was waaaay cool.
Now I think I'll call Shirley Manson & thank her for her "Stupid Girls" song.

| What do you think about lower back tattoos? Posted: 8/11/2007 11:58:45 PM | Frankly, they don't call them a "Tramp Stamp" for nothing. Really, no matter how nice and all that you are, the cultural concensus is that lower back tatoos are trashy.
Have I dated girls that had them? Yes, I surely have. Moreover, I would date a girl if she had one.
The key to it all is that if someone made a comment about "tramp stamps" and she took offense to it...I would not be in her corner. Just realize that every action that you take has a responsibility owed up to it. If you decide to go down that path then do not take offense if someone downs people that has lower back tatoos. Better yet, don't get your man involved if you are hot and bothered over some negative comment about it.

Ahhh, therein lies the rub. The ones that want everything with no responsibility are the ones that scream the loudest about others being "judgemental".
Do as you see fit and be prepared to deal with the consequences in whatever form they manifest themselves. This is true of everything in life and not just trendy fashions such as tattoes.

Umm, this is waay off topic by now, but by no means was she paving the way - she was continuing a fight (in her own way...) that took off for real in the wee hours of the last century.
So, *you* were paving the way by getting a tattoo on your arse? Riiiight.
