What do you think about lower back tattoos?
Posted: 8/12/2007 11:46:58 AM

It's more the fact that we both swore we would get matching tattoos before leaving for college.

And how is this now possible?

Besides the fact I don't care for tattoos, I never understood having one where you can't see it...

hm.. i think lower back hurts less than the shoulder actually. seeing as i have both.. but, you have to consider the whole child birth / medication ordeal. but in my opinion, i like lower back. it's obv. just a matter of opinion.. so no1 elses opinion should defer your intentions!

Actually, I decided that I was going to get one with him when I turned 18 a few months before he died. It's been over a year since then and I've always intended to get one, only now I've decided to get a different design. This isn't some spur of the moment decision based entirely on grief. I appreciate everyone's opinions and honesty here, but I really didn't post this to have my motive for getting the tattoo evaluated.

good! i say screw other peoples' opinions and do whatever you want.

Jooly: Umm, this is waay off topic by now, but by no means was she paving the way - she was continuing a fight (in her own way...) that took off for real in the wee hours of the last century.

So, *you* were paving the way by getting a tattoo on your arse? Riiiight.

Honey, 1971 surely wasn't the wee hours of the last century & most certaintly Ms. Steinem's leadership in a cause was not her continuing a fight. Are you American? What qualifies you to speak of an American movement & one that you were born the year that Ms. Steinem began paving the way in?

Lesson number one: If you are going to challenge someone, do your homework.
Lesson number two: Make sure your reading comprehension level is up to speed.

Did I say I got a tattoo on my arse? No, I did not. You just lost the debate by not getting your facts right & that would have been accomplished had you done.... you got it... your homework.

I happen to have been blessed & ate dinner with not only Gloria Steinem but Susan Faludi. It was an awesome round table discussion that lasted into the wee hours of the morning. So if you wish to discuss something that you are obviously ignorant about, in hopes of being enlightened, then by all means email me. However, if you wish to continue to do what you accused someone else of doing [attacking], then just know you are looking like an idiot. But don't worry. You wear it well. It goes with your pretty green eyes.

I have had a low back tatto for about 28 yrs and only ever had good feed back about it.
I had it on my low back L4/L5 to cover a lscar after an accident, followed by an op..

BUT

. . . This is your muvver speaking :-) D o think very carefully before you have one done because it costs lots and hurts loads to have them removed so I have been told. Not that I would ever have mine removed.

it probably depends on the tatto you're gonna get.. and will you get the same size tattoo in either place? if money is a concern i'd get the shoulder 1.or at least a smaller 1, i dunno. and it's not in an extremely obvious place, and a vast majority of guys don't seem to have a problem with it.

o.. and do whatever the hell you want! no1 elses opinion of whether or not to get it shouldn't make a difference.

In 20 years, there's going to be a lot of old ladies out there with tattoos that don't look anything like what they originally were.

To me, if I see a tattoo on a chick, especially an above-the-butt tattoo, that's a major turn-off. It means she's a sheep and going along with the trend that everybody else has done.

Sheep annoy me. Think for yourself, dammit.

totally agree with BCBOY81, i love tats on women as long as its not a tramp stamp. get creative or don't bother.
the funny thing is in 20 years when its so dated its going to be like having a mullet that you can't just cut off.

If you are truly unique, and OP, you sound like you are, you wont be making yourself any more unique by getting one.

Last place I would get one is there. Lots of money being made removing tatts these days for a reason.

Why not try henna and rent before you own?

if 'unigue'ness' and the 'tramp stamp' label matter to you then.. just get the shoulder one.. i got 3 more.. so that makes 6! and i'm 22.. big whoop. me and some guuys in the place were discussing it.. some guys find tattoos attractive, some don't. o well. and it's one tattoo, you aren't gonna be covered! most normal ppl won't like.. shun you for it. just make your decision wisely.

If you're going to get a tramp stamp, make it:

"HARDER!!!"

He'll get the hint.

I wouldn't say I'm a huge fan of tattoos, but there are perfectly fine in certain places. The lower back being one of them..

Well... I was actually talking about feminism, not just american feminism. And I was born ten years after that. Do your homework, love.

"Oh my God we got tattoos. What's mine say?"
"Dude! What's mine say?"
"Sweet! What's mine say?"

"Dude! Sweet! Dude! Sweet!" LOL

That movie still cracks me up because you know there are idiots out there just like them.

Gloria Steinem was never connected to any other feminism but American feminism which is specific to American women, our culture & social background. I'm sure your region has it's own feminist issues due to its culture & social backgrounds & I surely would never speak up on such a thing since it neither pertains to me nor do I have firsthand knowledge of it.

You still have nothing intelligent or relevant to contribute to the conversation except to throw barbs. And you have made it quite apparently so without offering what qualifies you to speak of something you continue to use as a barb.

So do you have anything else to sputter or are you going to continue this sword fight from your ignorant perspective? And dahling, aging you a decade was giving you more respect than you deserved. You should have taken it. Silly, silly, girl.

No, I surrender. All women who get tattoos are just trying (pointlessly) to be as cool as you managed to be many years ago without even wanting to be cool.

That is, in effect, what you have said, despite tangents about magazine editors with (dubious) feminist credentials that have absolutely no bearing on the subject. (and, if you admire this woman as much as you seem to, it strikes me as rather big of yourself to compare yourself directly to her)

I'll just wait a decade and hope to think of the next big thing before everyone else does, deal? And you can continue to act smug and superior and anything else you might be good at.

So...you want a "tramp stamp " to remember a loved one ?

I would never EVER want to be remembered that way.

But then again....I ain't dead.

They can be ok if they're actually a nice looking tattoo and it isn't too big. I'm only into tattoos if they have a few of them and they're small. Once they get into overkill with those things I don't particularly care for them.

Lower back tattoos look fantastic on women. Upper back for men... don't know why...

I'd go as far as too say that this is the sexiest position for a tattoo on a woman.

What looks really ugly, is women with arm tattoo's. NO NO NO
