Flexing a$$cheeks or no, you are obviously not of the body
Well, if being absorbed involves some sort of alien liquor and being tied up, then resistance is futile, baby!

| Star Wars VS. Star Trek Posted: 8/19/2007 10:49:44 PM | | Original Star Trek for me... Star Wars original series was very good also. The second Star Wars film of the three and the fourth Star Trek film of the five were the best IMO. | |
|
| Star Wars VS. Star Trek Posted: 8/19/2007 10:54:51 PM | Second of three? There have been six! Fourth of Five? There've been...what...nine? ten? and another coming!
I think I mentioned the upcoming Star Wars series, set during the clone wars [I think], but you can't really rank something that doesn't yet exist. Better information should be available at starwars.com or lucasarts.com

| Star Wars VS. Star Trek Posted: 9/5/2007 5:52:36 PM | | At the sci fi conventions I've attended, the cute guys were the ones who liked Star Wars. Perhaps opposites attract as I am a bit more of a Trek fan, although I also love Star Wars. | |

Capt. Kirk would have kicked Darth Vaders whiny butt. You know he would.
And how would that have been possible? Vader = the force, light saber, storm troopers
kirk = phaser, red shirts
No kirk wouldnt have stood a chance.
Im a rare one, im a trekkie who loves star wars lol.

| Star Wars VS. Star Trek Posted: 10/5/2007 6:51:10 PM | | That's not so rare in these parts--I have many friends who like both Trek and Wars, myself included. | |
|
| Star Wars VS. Star Trek Posted: 10/5/2007 9:28:08 PM | Star Wars are stories.
Star Trek is an adventure. Adventures never end.

| Star Wars VS. Star Trek Posted: 10/8/2007 1:32:26 PM | First off the great thing about star wars it is a great example for Good Vs Bad, Light and Dark, Black and white and drawling a fine line of what is right and wrong. The lead charters male and female are hot, with some amazing before it's time special affects set to a great story line. Yoda was badass and lovable, and ewoks and wookies TOTALLY cool.
Star Trek on the other hand had amazing cast and story line. But the best thing i think was that it truly addressed many social and political issues in a way that got ppl to listen up. Had you said it is wrong to be prejudiced agisnt a black and white man and women kissing at the time most would have gone off on ya. but put into a tv show like that really got a much better response. Gene(Sp) offten would cover content in star trek that others wouldn't touch, address issues and was like a true glimpis into our future. Many things you saw on the show are now a reality, and the show always had something new to teach its viewers in a way that wasn't in your face. But at the same time had a great story line with incredible charter depth that lasted decades. I Love both but when ya sit me in front the tv with two dvds one star trek (anything ST) and one SW(anything Sw) i am probably going to say ST.
BTW if you are star wars fan look on the web for Mc Chris Fetts Vette song and have a listen it is all about Star wars and great :)

| Star Wars VS. Star Trek Posted: 10/8/2007 1:52:37 PM | In the original episode I think the motto was:
Never beam down to the planet in a red shirt.
Who would win in a battle.....
Red-Shirted Ensigns vs Stormtroopers
|
| Star Wars VS. Star Trek Posted: 10/8/2007 6:40:55 PM | Scotty wore a red shirt and beamed down to planets many times and survived. | |
|
| Star Wars VS. Star Trek Posted: 10/8/2007 7:06:51 PM | Star Wars.
Nothin against Star Trek, really... but 2 words. Han. Solo.

| Star Wars VS. Star Trek Posted: 10/9/2007 6:30:18 PM | I'll take old Star Trek over Star Wars any day. Star Trek was way ahead of its time and intelligent. The content sometimes related to real world issues of the sixties and today. Star Wars is just a joy ride for little kids. Star Wars was just state of the art visual effects that wowed the crowd. Otherwise, the story is easy to follow and always predictable | |
|
| Star Wars VS. Star Trek Posted: 10/9/2007 6:43:36 PM | Babylon 5
Really...bit I'm a Trekkie, umm, trekker ya that's it.
I loved Star Wars (the first 3) I was there when it came out and saw the first one 11 times...at the theater. But it's apples and oranges really...two totally different genres though they both happen in space (Star Wars happens in both space and time and is set up like a legend)
|
| Star Wars VS. Star Trek Posted: 10/9/2007 7:17:16 PM | shades of Clerks II........
IF I was forced to choose, I'd go with Star Wars. The mysticism does it for me.
That said, I grew up with Star Trek, and enjoyed many many hours with Kirk, Picard, Janeway and Sisko.
Babylon 5, on the other hand, tends to bridge the two. Far and away, the plot line is more intricate and interesting, with trivial comments taking on sinister meaning 5 years down the line. There's a great deal of practicality and realism in the day to day functions and politics, but with the growing myth and legend of The One, and of course the intrigue of PSI Corps and the various species governments. Technologically, B5 has more in common with Star Wars, but without the grand scale.
I agree. Love that series too.
I also really enjoy Andromeda....
Cheers, Raven | |
|
| Star Wars VS. Star Trek Posted: 10/9/2007 7:44:56 PM | I was pondering reiterating my comments at this point...Apparently I don't need to :>
I always loved Trek...but over the years...some things just eat at you.
"Spread out!" [everyone marches off single file] [red shirt at the back wanders off] [remove one red shirt from next week's script]
ALL senior crew beam down... Landing party splits up. Senior crew is attacked. Scratch one token red-shirt. [we DO love those red shirts though]
Mostly, it was the irrationality and inconsistancy that got to me, though I did love the characters and plotlines. I'd chalk the flaws up to the fact it was cutting edge and on a budget. Later incarnations repeated some of the flaws...especially some of the Shakespearean overacting, but were a general and very enjoyable improvement. My thoughts on B5 remain; and I REALLY liked Space:Above and Beyond and, to a lesser extent, Firefly. Andromeda never did anything for me. 1960's idealism was never especially realistic, no matter how much the acting or effects improved.
