has anyone tried the other online dating sites?

I've been on this site since Sep or October of 06. I joined Match.com a couple months ago and find it much more rewarding as far as quality dating. I still like this site, but have pretty much given up on meeting anyone from here other than friends. I now use it as a social venue.

While the dates that I have gone on from Match haven't produced the desired result yet (I haven't been on it very long), ALL of the dates have been quality dates with men who were serious about it which is much more promising than the results I've gotten here.

I like the idea that noone can contact me unless they are a paying member and if there are fake profiles on Match, it hasn't affected me at all. The men I have dated from there are real flesh and blood. I certainly have run into a number of "fake" profiles here, so I would guess that every dating site has them.

$80.00 ???? Not sure what MAtch you're talking about but it is only costing me about $5.00 a month and if I don't find someone in 6 months the next 6 are free! 50% of the profiles are dead? I'd love to know where you got that statistic from. Sounds a bit bogus to me.

I also work with 3 people who met their wifes on Match and have a number of freinds who met their significant other on Match. I don't know anyone personally who is in a LTR that met their SO here though. So that in itself says something to me.

I guess it's all about what works for you

I've been on both Match and Yahoo. A couple of days after my subscription ran out on Match I got an email (which was a little suspicious in itself). Only to find out I couldn't read it unless I paid for another subscription! So I have no idea how many of those emails I sent went to non-paying members. My first time on Match was about 5 years ago and back then a non paying member could even reply to an email. Stay away from Match it's a total scam!

I'm not sure exactly how Yahoo works anymore but if you're going to pay for any singles site be sure you find out first if non paying members can read or reply to a paying member's email.

I just checked... if you want to sign up for 6 months, its $100, which is $16.99 a month. If you want to only sign up for a month, its $34.99.

I was on match.com for about 6 months. I met some decent men, but I prefer to meet men from "traditional methods". IMO many people on internet dating sites have unrealistic expectations and blatantly lie about many things. Height, age, weight, profession, income etc. I joined POF largely because of the forums.

Many of the paid sites give false winks etc. Look up (true.com) on thread search here. True, and yahoo personals is big on this to keep you on their sites. I found that yahoo sends false winks from people that mostly don't exist. I have a profile there, but rarely check on it (its not paid for) but when it asks do you want to contact the people that sent the winks and tell them why you rejected them. I would go to do it for 8 guys one time, and low and behold, 5 of the winks the people didn't have profiles to check on or send a message to. These paid sites are being fined for these false winks etc. they send out also. I do remember a while back there was a thread here where they were pursuing paid sites for sending false winks etc. to get the men to pick up their prescription again.

for me the quality of responses has been INFINITELY higher, but... I suspect that may not be the case for everyone

That was definitely the case for me as well. Paid sites had a much higher quality but much lower quantity than POF. I found Match.com worked really well for me.

I've tried OK Cupid, Connecting Singles, and Hot or Not when it featured free messaging.

I hardly ever got a messages or replies on OK Cupid. I remember a lot of women writing in their profiles "I'm not really looking, I'm just here for the personality tests" psssssht! Typical self-centered airheads.

Connecting Singles was a little better but didn't have even a quarter as many women on there as this site.

Hot or Not was actually VERY good. But the problem I had was that all the women I talked to were ALL talk. Trying to convince them to meet me for dinner was like pulling teeth.

Plentyoffish has been the best I've experienced. I think this is the third time I've been on here now and I usually average at least one or two new messages a day, which is fine. I can deal with that. It's these other sites that I can't deal with.

only active here.

the forums are best here.

I like the colour and the diversity of people, that's why I am here.

pay sites don't charge match either, but perhaps idealistically believe that finding your True Love should not be associated with any business at all.

it's a principle: best things in life should be for free and democratic

It's for those of us who are over 40 :) *ahem*

Except that when there's no fee the perceived value is much less. There is a sort of self-sorting that goes on, and people who use pay sites tend to be a little but more selective and frankly more worthwhile.

Yeh:
Match.com: U have to pay, yet have never had a reply from anyone so i think its a waste of money, not to mention that you have to pay even to read messages and see who has viewed your profile.

Anastasia: Got LOADS of replies! Unfortunatly, they were all scams! And very convincing if which was half the trouble.

Perfectmatch: No one lives in uk and the matches it gives are well...... not at all my type!

Mobiledating: Had a few replies yet nothing ever went anywhere.

this site: Found a friend! not more but i did have a girl who was interessted, yet had found someone just a few days earlier, other friend back with her ex! So suppose this was the best one.

Incidentaly, match.com they're too picky esp in relation to age and location.
The profile pic and description i used was pretty much identical on all sites.

I tried them all, taking a brek from them. I started to fee like I was only advertising myself. I have met more people here than the pay ones. Even if its just general emails being sent. So far its been alot of fun.

I have met alot of gastric bypass people and we all talk.

The problem with other dating site most you have to pay to contact them. If you don't pay and stick with the basic you can only reply. I don't see how its right you have to pay to meet a potential spouse. The internet has all different types of people now. You gotta be careful who you meeting. Don't get frustrated your not the only one. The forums prove that lots are meeting the wrong people. This site allows you to talk to people privately or like these forums. Others you would probably have to pay for this.

I have done YP, E harmony and match as well as POF they all work since POF is free and anyone can sign on with just an e-mail acc you may have a larger number of undesirables and freaks which if the number of complaining females are any indication there are many. Of the three my best responses were with match. I did find that many were on all three, which was ok do to the formating different questions etc. you could get a better sense of the possible matches by reading all their profiles. I have dropped the YP and match accs and stayed here for the forum if someone asked me what pay site is the best bang for the buck I'd say match. YMMV

i have tried several different sites in the past 4 yrs, and find most are just the same as this one even thou i met the man i'm with now after only one week with a paying site. i think most people are so loyal to this site is because of the forums, its a great past time and filler while they are waiting for replies

when my profile was searchable i never spent anytime with forums, i wouldnt want anyone to think had nothing better to do, but since i have a man in my life now i just do it for a past time. just look at the people that reply here, they are the same ones you see over and over. i would suggest to anyone that was seriously looking for a mate to stay off the forums.

I was on lava before I was on POF...and I found that-statistically- the people who pay for the service to be a little more serious about their search than they are on here. IMHO

connecting singles .com looks almost like this site. It is totally free. But I think it is strictly for Ohio residents.

in my opinion what is the point anymore of online dating? you cant even call it dating for that matter. i've been on here for a little over 2 years now and have had no success whatsoever. granted, a lot of people have. a lot of the women i've messaged for the majority of the time dont even bother to write me back. all i see is "read deleted" or "read". "read deleted" i get, but "read" come on dont beat around the bush, a response isn't too much to ask for. maybe i'm not attractive enough who knows? i suggested this site to my buddy and in less than a month he met someone and got into a relationship just like that. it makes me wonder when i'll get my turn?

Yes I have.

Here are my quickie evaluations, but this pertains to my area / city, and may not apply to yours:

Match.com: the best site to find women who are actually looking for LTR . Also has the lowest percentage of women who refuse to pay a monthy fee, i.e., where men are left with having to find a way to give them an e-mail address without it getting censored.

Cupid.com: dead. No selection.

Singlesnet: avoid at all costs. There are a lot of problems with the "simplified" way they conduct their site. Such as: you cannot do a detailed search whatsoever. You can simply search, and you get everything - women who are 10 years younger, 10 years older, live 100 miles away, live 1 mile away, have no kids, have 5 kids, I mean there is no way to limit your search. Also; when you simply look at a profile, the woman is notified that you have "flirted" with her, or that you're "interested." She is sent a notice of this. So already, there is deception. A lot of women don't like flirts; they'd rather have a written e-mail. And vice-versa: I started getting tons of "flirts" that turned out to be nothing other that a view of my profile. Beware.

POF: I sure met a lot of smokers here, for some odd reason. Compared to other sites, a very limited selection (I'm talking total profiles available, not as a result of being picky). The forums are great, though! :)

eHarmony: This might be a good site for people in large cities. For people in smaller towns, such as mine, well - you pay a lot of money, take a lot of time answering questions that may or may not have a single thing to do with true compatibility (opposites do attract sometimes), and then get a very few matches. And then - the same old rule applies: that woman is probably getting e-mail from 300 men. :) Did I mention expensive?
