Posted: 8/15/2007 2:53:25 PM | I REALLY feel like suing FEAR FACTOR.............those B*st*rds TRAUMATIZED me for life...........even though I hardly watched it. I'd be going on a channel surf and then lo and behold there's their show and somebody's drinking one of those shakes with brown floating things in it. Even if I had NO idea what was in it, even if it was on the channel for all of less then a minute, I'd start gagging.
Now lo and behold I am suppossed to make alot of shakes and well sometimes I put vitamins in it or fruit with like seeds or like those little brown fiber seeds. Well it doesn't matter what I put in it that is NORMAL..........if I see brown things floating in the shake or chunky things, I feel friggin nauseated and think of that show.
Thanks a bloody lot!

Posted: 8/15/2007 7:57:33 PM | Um, I'm not watching them because um they do reek like two week old garbage! Hey it's just my opinion, I'll try a show and it just ain't my cup of tea.
Gonzo, the 90s were ok but not as good as the 80s. Seinfeld is probably the best show of all time. I loved Star Trek TNG. Can't say I watched much Highlander, but Walker Texas Ranger certainly kicked arse.
Got to agree about Fear Factor; they tried to one-up Survivor and at the time they were the #2 reality show.
I thought of posting this in the Over 30 or Over 45 forum, but I wanted to hear from younger people who might convince me that today's programming is worthwhile. I'm still waiting for a convincing argument about that.
I forgot about Buck Rogers. That show rocked. Can't say I watched Battlestar Galatica. As a 12 year old I could only watch so much TV!  I sort of concentrated on Daisy Duke and Captain Deering! | |

Posted: 8/16/2007 8:57:12 AM | I only have over-the-air TV, because I simply don't watch enough TV to justify the extra $ 30 or so for cable or satelite.
The TV is on so the birds don't get bored, usually on PBS, because they like cartoons.
Sometimes, if I'm there, I'll watch Jakers! The Adventures of Piggly Winks with them, that's actually a pretty cool show.
I record Blind Date because I'm either gone or asleep when it airs and it's fairly amusing and somewhat educational.
Sometimes I watch BBC World News, the closest thing to real world news there is in the US, sometimes I watch a few of the cooking or home shows they have on PBS on Saturdays.
Sometimes the Sunday evening Mystery is ok, sometimes it's junk.
Currently, I'm wondering why Hidden Palms which I thought had potential, disappeared so quickly.
Other than that, I agree with bike man, 90+ % of TV stinks. | |

Yes I'd have to agree with that. i usually have the tv on low for background noise for the dog while I work in my office here. If I feel like vegging and watching tv, I'll watch the Discovery, History, Sports and the Learning Channels.
If anything other than football or hockey, it would probably be the house-flipping shows, or the renovation shows like trading spaces. I like to pick up fixer-uppers and flip them when I have the time, so I get lots of good, and sometimes very cheap ideas from those shows.
Apart from that, there's really no show I watch. i used to watch the Amazing race, but they moved it's time slot last year with the winter Olympics on and I've never been able to get with it since. The rest to me is pretty much just tripe. | |

All TV shows now today are beyond horrible. I wouldn't necessarily go this far, but there definitely is a dip in quality of dramatic, comedy, and action-oriented programming that isn't reality-based. | |

The other problem is how fast they sink into the toilet. I loved Desperate Housewives the first season it was truly funny and original but once the hype caught up to it then it became Dirty Housewives. No thanks, ditto with grey's anatomy.
I would like to see more detective/mystery shows -- I grew up loving shows like Simon&Simon, Rockford Files, Magnum PI, the old B&W charlie chan series(with number won son!), black sheep squadron, wild wild west...etc
One I have been enjoying from Watch Now is Dead Like Me... pretty funny show the first season or two. Novel, anyway.
Actually I watch a lot of documentaries these days --Touch The Sound -- was really good, about a deaf woman who plays music. Watched KOKO the other night, also pretty good. | |

" Worlds Deadliest Catch ", a show about crab fishermen. Put the basket in the water, take the basket out of the water, that's how you catch crabs.

Sometimes that World's Dirtiest Jobs show is like watching a trainwreck,...can't look away and I have learned about some really interesting jobs I never knew existed. Thank goodness there is no such thing as smell-o-vision!!!
I also have been reduced to watching real estate and house reno shows.

Sci-Fi Channel made for TV movies suck! (And I love science fiction!) This Saturday's Sci-Fi Channel movie? "Mega Snake" - can we say remake of other failed Sci-Fi Channel movies such as "Python", "Cobra King" and other really baaaad movies. Yuck!
Sci-Fi Channel: Flash Gordon & Pain Killer Jane - two Friday night shows that blow chunks. Ugh! Bad writing. Bad plots. Horrible acting. Gods I can't wait for Stargate Atlantis to come back!
I'm in love with the new BBC America show "Jekyll" - if you haven't seen this on Saturday night, WATCH IT! Excellent show about a descendant of Dr. Henry Jekyll who involuntarily turns into Mr. Hyde. There's physiological changes as well as psychological changes that occur and couple that with Hyde's animalistic tendencies and you get one helluva good show! | |

What I'm referring to specifically in the US is network broadcast programming, not really the cable programs.
What the network executives and marketing people are doing I think is a profit maximization thing moreso than targeting programs to its audience. With so many non-broadcast options available to so many people, some even outside of TV programs like video games and movie rentals, people just don't watch broadcast programs in the same numbers. So the ratings get watered down, therefore the quality of the programs either suffers, or you think of ways to lower the production costs (reality shows). | |

Another bad guy who needed stopping but did NOT advance the plot and you sure wouldn't miss anything by missing one of them, tigger. You can rent them on netflix if you want to catch what you missed. I find it a better deal than cable tv -- tonight I am watching Dog the bounty hunter, streaming video, as many episodes as I want to watch and can stay awake for.
Watched a documentary on Big Al, the dinosaur found in Wyoming earlier. Fantastic recreation of what his life might have been like. made by the BBC, available on netflix. I love my netflix account! It's really the answer to boring TV since its on demand now. | |

I watch it because my favorite series Justice League is airing nightly. I also watch USA Network (WWE, Monk, Psych, Law and Order.) I love the Sci-Fi Channel that shows my favorites series Doctor Who, Battlestar Galactica, and Stargate. I also love watching Star Trek from OS to Enterprise.
It depends on who you watch. I also watch British comedies such as Coupling and Chef!  | |

But, will flick it on now/then and if I'm lucky there will be a great documentary on.
However, my latest must-see show is Deadwood - great writing and dialogue.

Ozzy is one thing, but I respect Gene Simmons. I don't watch his show, but the man is far from a has-been, and he's actualy a big player behind the scenes. And knowing the man, the show is probably for the purpose of not only glaunting his ego, but satirising it as well.
That said, I strongly agree that the reality shows suck. As do most of the comedies. I'm still waiting for a Black Adder V, but that's a BBC thing.
If I watch the tube, I'm usually watching the comedy network. I stopped liking CSI after about half a season because it's the exact same thing, over and over again. | |

I long for the days of those wholesome, funny family sitcoms. I Love Lucy was a riot.
I even miss WKRP in Cincinnati!
I also love Star Trek from the original to Enterprise. Good stories and wonderful characters. | |

Imagine a show filled with typical 1960's characters living in a wacko backwoods rural town filled with super high tech scientists who are so advanced they are totally inept in everything they do. - It works. One of the few recent shows that have truly broken the mould. - pun intended. | |

The dramas like Law and Order, ER, Las Vegas , and West Wing are awesome. Cable shows are great like Californication and Sopranos and Curb and others that I have not gotten into yet like Sleeper Cell. I find Tv does not just put out a show but they actually research the subject at hand and make it as realistic as possible. This is very intelligent. Do not get me started on the unoriginality of movies lmao. | |
