| I'm not sure if I intimidate guys, or if I am just butt ugly Posted: 6/30/2006 3:26:42 PM | | From a guys opinion I say loose the dreadlocks, throw away the nose ring, dye your hair a softer color. You are nowhere near butt ugly but your pictures do kind of look intimidating and you look a little depressed so try smiling. | |

| I'm not sure if I intimidate guys, or if I am just butt ugly Posted: 6/30/2006 3:28:09 PM | You are certainly not ugly ..... quite lovely realy...... the look of individuality comes across quite strongly. Just go out and expect nothing.....ever.....but talk to people, enjoy yourself doing so, don't try to impress anyone at all, just be interesting and enjoyable. Live like there is no tomorrow and be nice to everyone. You will attract more than you can handle and love every moment of it. You don't have to change for anyone,,,,,,, just be yourself and have fun. They will be mezmerised and approach. Have fun! | |

Ahhhhhhhhhhh since we don't agree with you we are losers? Funny how that works. - newandreadyforu
Let me get this straight, motherf*cker. You're getting offended because I called you a loser?
Let's take a stroll through your last post in this thread.
You told her:
What you've done to yourself is butt ugly. She looks heinous. She's compensating for shyness. Most people will not like her. She's battling inner demons. Her looks are a mask and a shield. Her looks are going to prevent her from getting a real job that earns more than minimum wage. She will never have a real relationship. She will never have children.
And you have the gaul to get OFFENDED when I call your bullsh*t, and tell it like it is?
What a wuss.
Maybe I should go pick on shy 19-year old little girls, instead?
I don't know how it is in Mokena, Illinois, but I've worked as a network and QA engineer at Intel. Ever heard of them? They're this tiny little company that makes processors. A lot of my friends bounce back and forth between Microsoft and Intel. I've worked with people who look just like her, and who probably make more money than you've ever dreamed of making as a divorced general manager.
Let's try writing up a comparable list for you, and see what you think:
You're old. You look like a mid-life crisis exploded all over your button-down shirt. You're compensating for something, and it ain't your shyness. You are so far from cool that if it ever touched you, the matter/anti-matter explosion would probably consume an entire city block. Most people I know here in Seattle would not like you, because you're boring. You are never going to be more than a balding middle manager.
Feel good?
Try reading your posts out loud before you post this crap. You're not getting flamed because you're the cool, calm mature voice of experienced reason, either. You're getting flamed because you don't know what you're talking about, and you're passing your BS off as life experience.
Here's a nickel. Go buy yourself a clue.

| I'm not sure if I intimidate guys, or if I am just butt ugly Posted: 6/30/2006 3:50:05 PM | /\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\ ..... amen!!
Be yourself unicorn - and btw, good name choice too. When I was 19, I moved to the city and went to art college, and I found myself in a group of people who understood me, which was far from what I found at high school. Just be yourself, and be proud of who you are.
and thank molonel for saying it like it is ...

| I'm not sure if I intimidate guys, or if I am just butt ugly Posted: 6/30/2006 4:17:07 PM | | Looks are totally subjective. What I like, you might hate, and visa versa. Obviously, the OP doesn't fall into the boring, conservative norm. She is creative, and beautiful. She actually is like her name, unique. That is not a bad thing. She also seems sensitive and caring, but she is also bold and strong enough to be who SHE is, and surely, someone will pick up on that. | |

| I'm not sure if I intimidate guys, or if I am just butt ugly Posted: 6/30/2006 5:13:30 PM | Take all the sh!t out of your face and get a normal hair colour and maybe you'd find some luck. Either that or date another freakshow. - the joe show
Before you do that, though, ask yourself a couple of questions:
1. Do I really want to take fashion and dating advice from a 39-year old guy working IT who looks like Howdy Doody and has never been married? Somebody who lists "Bowling" and "The Family Guy" and "doing bad William Shatner impressions" among his interests?
Is this really the life you want to lead?
2. Similarly, do you want to take fashion and dating advice from a 51-year old man who looks like a child molester, and lists girls who were born when he was thirty years old in his profile as potential dates?
I think not.
Now, before someone else says it, you also don't want to take advice from a 34-year old bald ugly mofo like me, either.
But I'm not giving you relationship and dating advice. I'm telling you that you're just fine. You probably aren't going to get dates with men who are 39, 46 and 51, but I doubt that's what you were looking for, anyway. And there is nothing wrong with being shy, or having blue hair or piercings or being artistic when you're 20. It is no indicator of future success or failure, and you'll come out of your shell when you're damn good and ready, but not a moment sooner.

| I'm not sure if I intimidate guys, or if I am just butt ugly Posted: 6/30/2006 5:27:44 PM | Beautiful doesn't cover it. You are gorgeous--and your eyes rock, especially in the black with rhinestone glasses. Don't change a thing you don't want to change. In my opinion, you probably just need a little more practice opening up to people. Like many others have said, make eye contact, hold yourself up with pride, smile, start a simple conversation. Practice makes perfect, so just start with small steps, and as you become more comfortable, it will be second nature.
Lots of guys are intimidated by good-looking women because they think they will be rejected, and that's hard for all of us, male, female, younger, older. So you may have to be the one to make the first move. Just be you, be friendly, put yourself forward and search out people with similar tastes and interests. Why should you change who you are to attract someone? It's not like you are looking for an uptight bank manager or politician, any more than I am--Eewww!! Not my cuppa tea. No offense to those who are bank managers or politicians--just the uptight, stick-up-their-asses ones--of any profession.
I don't know what it's like in your area, but around here there's a lot of crossover between the goth/punk/techies and the pagans. Maybe that could help you there, and you'll find that most people, even the "old" ones, in the pagan community are usually much less judgemental about appearance, including ht/wt, and lifestyle. Why, some of us old geezers even have tattoos and piercings ourselves. "GASP" I even know people over 25 who have dreads--what is the world coming to? LMFAO Good luck, Unicorn, if you're even still following this thread.

Molonel, of course one of her own came to her defense. She asked a question, I gave her a reasonable answer. Howdy Doody? Ya, okay. - the joe show
And of course some whitebread cracker with no life and less looks took a shot at her.
She's half your age, sport. Did it occur to you that maybe not everyone aspires to be a loser?
Sorry I hit a nerve, Howdy.

Take the chip off of your shoulder, its not very attractive. But I bet you are really impressing the young chick....good luck. - newandreadyforu
Oh, I see.
Since I'm not telling her that's she's never going to have friends, get married or become a mother, I must be hitting on her. Is that it?
Actually, I'm hitting on you, stud. When I read your handle, "newandready..." I figured you'd just come out of the closet.
Kiss me, you fool.
Sorry not you....Molonel, the defender of the free world and appparently the only one entitled to an opinion. - newandreadyforu
Oh boo hoo. It is your God-given, constitutional right to hold stupid, uninformed opinions on any subject you please.

| I'm not sure if I intimidate guys, or if I am just butt ugly Posted: 6/30/2006 7:11:51 PM | BornAUnicorn-I didn't read the whole thing, but maybe YOU should try approaching guys instead of waiting for them to come to you. You seem like a counterculture kind of girl, so maybe you should look for guys that are like you, guys that are into the piercings and tats and wild hair. Don't wait for those kind of guys to find you. Go out and find them, and make your move.
I don't think you're ugly, but not everyone is going to be attracted to how you dress, wear your hair, decorate your face, etc. I'm sure you know that. Not everyone's going to "get" you. It's just how it is.
Hell, I'm a headbanger who used to have long hair. Some girls liked my long locks, others didn't. Some women like me bald, other's don't. People don't "get" me either a lot of the time. Some people think I'm weird because I listen to heavy metal and read comic books.
Personally, I do not find nose rings attractive. Same with dreads on white girls. But some guys dig that. Look for the guys that do.
Or, just tone it down a little, and see what happens. You don't have to become Pollyanna. :) And when you do meet someone, let them see your wild side.

| I'm not sure if I intimidate guys, or if I am just butt ugly Posted: 6/30/2006 7:12:19 PM | Beacuse thay are not the same as yours that makes my opinions stupid and uniformed? Open your mind a little, expand your horizons...and consider, for just a moment, that there are other people in here, and all around, that have differing opinions than yours. We can't all be wrong and only you be correct.
Not sure why you have choosen me as yoru point of attention. Many others have said mean and disparaging things to her. I pointed out simple fact and made MY observations. I have a degree in Psychology so I do have some credibility when I speak of repression and avoidance as well as inner turmoil and battling inner demons. Nothing I posted was said with cruel intent, unlike your posts to me.
She asked for our opinions and I gave her mine. I did not ask for your opinion of me. So please keep it to yourself.

Your opinions being stupid and uninformed has nothing to do with disagreeing with me. You managed that all on your own steam.
Can you SAVOR the irony, here? You just got done telling someone that they would be alone and unloved if they didn't follow your advice, and now you're weeping and boo-hooing because I need to open my mind?
You kept that nickel I gave you, didn't you? You can still buy a clue.
We can't all be wrong and only you be correct. - newandreadyforu
Of course not, silly. Somebody is bound to agree with me, and therefore be right.
Not sure why you have choosen me as yoru point of attention. - newandreadyforu
I didn't.
I made a general statement. You responded. I handed you your ass thinly sliced on a platter, and you can't get enough of me so you keep coming back for more.

Oh, you have a bacherlor's degree in psychology! No wonder you're so messed up.
Good for you! Tell me. In which of your undergraduate classes did they teach you the fine art of psychoanalysis through looking at photos on a dating site?
I copied and barely even parodied your words to her, stud. You consider my words cruel. Maybe you should go back and consider what you said a little more carefully.
She asked for our opinions and I gave her mine. I did not ask for your opinion of me. So please keep it to yourself. - newandreadyforu
If you refuse to be more considerate, then don't ask the same of me.

| I'm not sure if I intimidate guys, or if I am just butt ugly Posted: 7/1/2006 9:58:21 AM | /\/\/\/\ ...
this just keeps getting better!
I've said it before, I'll say it again. Be yourself, and don't gave a rats @$$ what others say.
We're just a bunch of old people with our own opinions. You know you best, and eventually some young guy is going to know the best of you. You may have to approach him, you may not, but don't let a bunch of old farts tell you how best to express yourself. You'll have to figure that out through trial and error, but I'm sure you'll get it. You're young and hopefully have a lot of time to figure out what's important to you. Don't sell yourself short. Live and see what life brings.
Meanwhile, watch the show! You've created a dynamic thread! Cudos to you! Got any popcorn?
