Arrogance and ignorance.
People in the now seem to feel they are of more value and worth then the people of the future. They spend their lives being amused and entertained rather then working to provide and insure a better future for our species.
I have to say that man is man's worse enemy and especially ignorant men as they trade the lives and future of others for sake of worthless material and opinion.
Our overwhelming desire to be amused and entertained rather then working is also detrimental to us and the future.
Essentially, the 7 deadly sins say a lot and when one or more rule over a man's life, he is an enemy of all men except those who are also corrupted, ignorant and selfish like him or herself.

| Greatest threat to mankind? Posted: 11/16/2007 12:41:58 PM | I'm actually surprised what i consider to be mankinds biggest threat has not been mentioned
Carlos Ray "Chuck" Norris if you go to wikipedia and look at Norris' file it states that "In early 1968, Norris suffered the fifth and last loss of his career, losing an upset decision to Louis Delgado"
He hasn't lost a fight since 1968, it's already been 49 years and he hasn't been stopped yet. It's a fortunate thing that Norris eventually retired. Personally I think we are still at danger with one of such prowess on the loose. His left foot alone is more of a man than i will ever be.

| Greatest threat to mankind? Posted: 11/16/2007 8:32:50 PM | Greatest threat? One of the top five would be the rise of the nanny state where self appointed guardians would like to make all the decisions and take away personal liberties. Sadly there are many people who embrace this so they don't have to think for themselves.
Personal liberties are being eroded away constantly. Freedom is not something that is always taken away on one big piece but a little here and a little there so you don't notice it until it is too late.

| Greatest threat to mankind? Posted: 11/17/2007 1:20:46 AM | Well i am no philyosopher (don't know how to even spell it LOL ) but I would say why give up any thing but you and time ") I say that the biggest threat is "Lack of" any thing really: Lack of knowledge, compassion, consideration, kindness, loyality, love, morals, values, and the one I am finding more and more of as I look around is lack of effort (relationships don't have the drive they did, to make for life long bonds. I say take the time to learn each other, that way you don't accept turn over of partners as a norm.) I say band together, move ahead, put out extra effort in life, make things better by makeing them brighter.... :) | |

| Greatest threat to mankind? Posted: 11/17/2007 1:44:41 AM | Hello kit6996, I like your post. Thanks for sharing. I definitely agree that it is the lack of things that connect us all that gives us the space to harm each other. We can even see it in families, just how little we as a whole are connected even to our families of origin, never mind the extended family (humanity).
I say band together, move ahead, put out extra effort in life, make things better by makeing them brighter.... :) well said, crazylilting

| Greatest threat to mankind? Posted: 11/18/2007 5:47:16 PM | Is..................... Are you ready? Man, himself.
Two major issues, SEX and GREED.......................... It seems that man/women, will always have a struggle in society, as a whole. We have evolved, yet at what cost to each other and the planet we live on. RELIGION and FAITH, may have the awnsers , yet there are many, so man will always have conflict......
Will we as a society, be able to take the next step in our survival?

Often the same people that thought the end of the world would be in 99, then 2000, then 2001, is the same people that think it will happen in 2012. Their track record sucks.

I think, after all the world issues and personality flaws are boiled down to their cores, these two monsters lie at root of much that is wrong.

| Greatest threat to mankind? Posted: 11/20/2007 2:29:12 PM | The Neocortex is the failure in human evolution.....snicker heh heh...... Please elaberate or expand your meaning. Are you calling me stupid after i have read all these books? Worlds in Collision, Earth in Upheaval, Scientists Confront Velikovsky, Velikovsky Reconsidered, Beyond Velikovsky, The Tragedy of the Moon, Inscrutable Earth, The Structure of Scientific Revolutions, The Demon-Haunted World, The Big Splat, Longitude, Living without Religion. Can you say that you have read any of these books? Or who any of the authors are? Or what are any of the controvercies that these books are about? Our Solar System is out there, and it's not going away, and our Solar System waits for no person or neocortex. | |

Will we as a society, be able to take the next step in our survival? If Men are from Mars, and Women are from Venus, then who is of the gas giant planets? Albert Einstein/deceased, Immanuel Velikovsky/deceased, Carl Sagan/deceased, Eugene Shoemaker/deceased, Bill Nye(the science guy)/deceased, David Levy/stroke-still alive-age unknown, Caroyln Shoemaker/70's ish-not retired yet, Neil DeGrasse Tyson/50's ish-not retired, Robin Canup/age unknown-not retired. Four out of nine is bad. Do you like those odd's stacked up against the International Astronomical Union and the Cornell-Harvard "mafia"?

| Greatest threat to mankind? Posted: 11/23/2007 9:30:05 AM | To address the topic. If you haven't seen the movie Equalibrum, you need to see it. Thats what I think. "Mankind's own volatile natures" is our greatest threat... Kind of what you said, our emotions and "feelings".
But as the movie portrayed, it shows the other side of that, if we didn't have the ability to feel or show emotion. It would again, be quite scary.

| Greatest threat to mankind? Posted: 11/24/2007 5:30:14 PM | The greatest threat to mankind is,,,,Mankind. As a group, we have an incredible ability to resist the introduction of useful knowledge, an obstinate refusal to do what is good for us and our fellows. We refuse to accept others who do not think the same way we do and must either change them or destroy them. While six billion human beings on this planet are using up the resources at an incredible rate and the quality of life becomes worse and worse for more of us, we still find time to go to war and fight over who's god has the biggest**** Children are starving to death and instead of worrying about them, we are obsessed with condemning others for who they sleep with and who they worship. We spend hundreds of billions of dollars on senseless wars while our governments can barely devote a few million to researching diseases that kill more people than any war ever has. While millions starve to death in Africa because the land cannot support their numbers, the world's greatest ***hole, the Pope, continues to tell them and us that birth control is a sin because God said "be fruitful and replenish the earth." Do you think he meant for us to do it until we drown in our own filth? While children are dying of AIDS, middle-class Sunday Christians think that all they have to do to buy their way into heaven is go to church on Sunday and put money into the hat so that their preacher can attend his prayer meetings in Hawaii and Vegas. We are nothing but hairless apes who have learned to make fire and have an over-inflated sense of self importance. If we do not change our ways, we will vanish like millions of other species have already done. When you look at how we are treating one another and our planet, it is quite debatable as to whether our intelligence is a positive survival trait. The first step to changing the road we are on is for all those holy folks out there to let the gods worry about themselves and stop fighting over them. After all, they made the heavens and the earth, right? I am sure they are quite capable of protecting themselves without our help if they are out there. The next thing we have to do after that is to accept the fact that there are as many different opinions on just about every subject as there are people to have opinions, and live with it. The third step is to line up all the money-grubbing crooked politicians and $500,000,000 a year bonus -earning CEO's and shoot them. Then we can distribute their ill-gotten booty to the starving children of the world. Once we do these things, the rest should straighten out by itself within a few years. | |
