Ohio St has super quick linebackers & can stop the spread. I feel for any Hawaii reciever that comes across the middle. Face it..Brennan is no Vince Young..Not by any means am I saying OSU doesn't belong. I feel 2 of the best 4 teams in the country are in this year. That said, OU who was one of the top defenses in the country couldnt win the track meet with Texas Tech. Hard to stop a team that sends 5 recievers at you almost every down. Hawaii hasn't seen defensive backs like OSU has either.

Ohio States linebackers looked slow against Florida last year, and Illinois this year. Ohio State just is not built to beat the spread.

I agree with you 2 of the 4 best teams are in the National Championship game. I just don't think 2 of the most deserving teams are in the championship game. Hawaii did not lose a game the entire year, LSU lost not once, but twice. If we simply ignore losses because a team is in a tougher conference, then the title game should be between some mix of USC, Oklahoma and LSU cause those are the 3 best teams in the nation and are in the toughest of conferences. Really there would be no need of a regular season, just pick 2 of the three and go at it.

we definitely agree who the best 4 teams are..This whole BCS thing could drive a person to drink.. Since a playoff means more revenue , Which is what these school Pres. are all about, You would think they would see the light.

I like the playoff idea, but I just don't think it would work in college. Unfortunately the extra games a playoff would require would put more of a strain on the "student" athletes. To truly crown a national champ, this year you might need an 8 team playoff. That is 4 extra games. This means less time in the classroom, less time studying etc. Also, more risk of injury for future NFL players. After all the athletes that are not there for an education are there to audition for NFL teams, the last thing those players need is a severe injury.

As a selfish fan though, I want to see it.

Most teams are on a 12 or 13 game schedule now, especially with the NCAA promoting it. How do you think that App State ended up on Michigans schedule??? Because they couldn't find another team that wanted to come into Ann Arbor to play, without UM returning the favor.

Why not cut back or even out the non-conference portion of the schedules, especially since most teams use this to "pad" their records with soft opponents. This would give more room for a playoff system.

Does the media want this??? Hell no!! Because it would dilute their rating system as it is now. There should also be no polls until the 1st of October. Then the product each team is putting onto the field if evaluated more on performance and less on name. This will never fly either. The media makes too much money on their pre-season rankings and publications.

That would be nice to see, but I don't think it will ever come about. I would also like to see the conferences get rid of the title games. Mostly because those are pointless too, most of the time two teams meet again for the second time in the same season, like VT, BC and OU and Missou.

I agree.....the Championships don't make much sense, and actually cost the loser of the game more than if they hadn't have made it to the game.

It seems that unless the outcome is the same.....the first meeting is pointless???

VT beats BC for a split on the season, but because it came in the Championship game they walk away with all the marbles.

Yeah it cost Missouri a BCS game, which was totally unfair to them, considering they beat Kansas head to head. Poor Missouri went from the national title game to not even a spot in the BCS games.

Durell fired at UCLA..Rumor has it Mike Leech from Texas Tech could be headed West. Looks like the the run & gun is coming to the Gridiron in Westwood.

UCLA will never be good as USC because USC gets the better players and have better coaches and if UCLA hires Leech he will have hard time coaching in the Pac Ten.

Actually the Pac 10 will have a hard time adjusting to their offense. Recievers from all over the West coast will flock to Westwood..what better offense to showcase your talent to the NFL. The only reason Tech isnt worth a crap is because they have no defense & no one wants to play in Lubbock. I went to Lubbock on a baseball recruiting visit in 1980 & they had one of their infamous sand storms while I was there. I called my dad & told him Tech was off the list. It is almost like driving thru the Mojave desert. UCLA already has a decent defense & like his buddy Bob Stoops Leech can recruit.USC doesn't do well against pass happy offense"s ala Stanford.

I been to Lubbock and know what you are talking about. If they hired Leech he needs to find a good defensive Coordinator if he wants to do well in the Pac Ten.

Haven't really read the previous posts...lol. Just know I am ONE HAPPY GIRL....Geaux Tigers!!!!

Merry Christmas Y'all!!!!

An LSU Christmas:

Twenty four days before Christmas, in a state in the south,
Les Miles was pissed as he opened his mouth.
"Miles to Michigan," was reported as fact.
To which Miles responded, "Herbie you don't know jack!"

The Tigers had suffered a gut wrenching loss,
At the hands of McFadden and the rest of the hogs.
And Bo in his sweatshirt, and Miles in his Hat.
Were determined to prove they were better than that!

When the Tennessee Vols ran out on the field,
There were ruckus applause from the mentally ill.
Still in the locker room, Les told his team,
"This season ain't over. We still have a dream."

The hurt throwing arm of QB Matt Flynn
Meant Ryan was the man they put their faith in.
Then the fans all heard, what Les said in the Dome.
"I ain't goin' anywhere. I'm happy. I'm Home!"

The fans were still thinking "This might be a trick."
'til someone pointed out "Hey, this guy ain't Nick!"
The Hat took the field for this championship game,
And he brought all his Tigers, and called them by name;

"Now, Hester! Now, Early! Now, Highsmith and Putt!
Let's let 'er rip and shut these guys up!
Take to the field Men! Give it your all!
Then later we'll watch numbers 1 & 2 fall."

The fans still weren't sure as to what team would show,
The Virginia Tech game seemed like so long ago.
But there in the stands, the fans they did cheer,
As Perrilloux played his game of the year.

While out in Ar-Kansas, the hogs claimed the boot,
The tigers were focused on far better loot.
With the game knotted up, Ainge threw a quick out
But Zenon was ready and took six to the house.

He wore a LSU jacket, and a white turtle neck,
The same as he wore when his team beat La Tech.
With the hat on his head, and a childish grin,
Les put his team in the title picture again.

His smile-how it widened! as Pitt won its game!
He cheered Oklahoma, when it did the same.
The stars were aligning, it couldn't be true.
Turns out Miles WAS destined, to play O-S-U.

With a month to prepare and a month to heal up,
We're all pretty sure which team will show up.
He ain't going to Michigan, and we're sure of that.
But Tressel and the Buckeyes should still Fear the Hat.

On December first, he called L-S-U home.
Then set up the Tigers, to play again in the Dome.
It soon will be legend, how Les started that day,
"Can't talk now. . . . I'm busy. . . . [Y'all] have a GREAT day!"

Don't be so sure Miles isn't still going to Michigan.
Even though he signed a new contract, the buyout remained the same.

Especially when you have a team that has to wait almost 40 days between games. How do you carry over momentum from your last win for 40 days..That said, Ohio St will have 51 days between games. We are seriously in need of a playoff of sorts.

Pick: the mRatings have LSU #1. The BCS rules are the BCS rules (actually, I think the comps should still have AT LEAST 50% bearing). The BCS winner brings home that chrystal trophy.

It doesn't matter if the AP picks somebody else, like it did USC over LSU the 2003 season. The AP is irrelevent, except to itself.

Ndru: altho everybody "hates" the BCS not having playoffs, I am sure that actually, the set-up gets lots of people interested, arguing, etc, and it perversely is actually a boon for the BCS not to have a playoff system.

La Mom: right on der, Cher, mais yeah.

Geaux LSU Tigres et un bonne nuit a tutte.

pickme83 says:
"Actually I would rather see Ohio State play LSU than Hawaii. Hawaii runs the spread offense like Illinois and Florida, its clear that Ohio State can't stop the spread offense. I think Ohio State has a better shot at beating LSU a more traditional team. Ohio State will make this more of a game than most people think."

I, Big FJ say:
Looking at your comparisons transitionally, you apparently rank the above 3 teams as such: 1) Hawaii 2) LSU 3) Ohio State
Because it sounds like a hopeful admission that you think Ohio State will lose, but at least make it a non-blowout.
I anticipate a close game. The good part for LSU is that they have 4 weeks of rest. They garnered a lot of injuries in a grueling SEC regular season. And everybody is well aware that the SEC is usually the best conference in the USA.

Congrats to Hawaii, and may they have a great time in the Sugar Bowl. However, I suspect that the #3 SEC team, Georgia, will put a pretty good hurting on them. The encouraging thing is that the surf should still be up at the islands. Georgia is not Charleston Southern (has anybody in S. Carolina heard of that school, or is it a railroad?)

Love, FJ

Actually to clarify I think the top three teams are Oklahoma, USC, and LSU not really sure in what order. Those 3 teams clearly have the best talent.

So if you want the best two teams in the National Championship game pick two of those three.

I think the title game should be between the most deserving teams. Teams that don't lose, so Hawaii and Ohio St. because Ohio St. only has one loss as opposed to two like the 3 best teams in the nation have. One of the main arguments against a playoff system is that the regular season is supposed to be a playoff. If that is the case then if you lose a game then you should be out. Unfortunately this year there was only one undefeated team who only played one decent team all year.

As far as the split national championship goes, I understand that the winner of the BCS game gets the little glass trophy and therefore are national champs, but if the AP poll picks another team as the #1 team in the nation, to me kind of cheapens the winner of the BCS game because that team is not the undisputed best team in the nation.

LA (the REAL LA) mom: thanks for the great poetry.
Now, to LSU - Ohio State.............
Ohio State now has not played in about 3 or 4 weeks.
LSU has not played in 2 weeks.
It is about 4 weeks to the BCS game.

Question: too long a time, right?
I mean, does it feel that college football has sort of come and gone?
Like, a lack of continuity?

Suggestion (to be dismissed offhand, of course): yes, I know that this will cause a football / basketball conflict, but the college football season should be pushed back.
Do like they did in the 60s: start the 4th week of September.
a) it is real cool temp football season
b) continuity with the bowls

To wit, by the time the BCS bowl comes around, people will be asking LSU who? Ohio State who? Hester who? Flynt who?

Like I posted earlier in the thread..The Bayou Benglas will have gone 40+ days between games & the Buckeyes 51. How can any team continue the momentum with such a span between games? I don't think they can. There is a good chance Miles signed that new deal with LSU to keep his team focused. Ironic that Michigan doesn't have a new head coach yet. In my opinion, Miles will be gone after the title game.

Dru: well, Miles has indeed been in contact with Michigan the last week, supposedly in an "advisory" capacity. That does indeed sound sort of smelly.
I wonder what the binding part (Miles' side) of his LSU contract is, if there is a big monetary penalty.
If not (and I am not aware) it would substatiate strongly your suspicion.

However, I have heard nothing of this on local sports shows, which are pretty in depth (esp wwl 870 nola). Maybe they are staying on the team, and keeping the cat in the bag.
