lsu won the national champ game..i will give them that..yes they are number one...

but you can make a case for a lot of teams BESIDES ohio state that should have been inth at game..all im saying..

lsu did what it did...and did what i expect them to do..they are number 1 no biggie to me...

my point is that there was lots of parity in college football this year....

First off, congradulations to LSU on their win!
I agree with Eman, there were several teams that could have a valid arguement for a shot at a Championship game, and each holds as much weight as the next.

The BCS is going to discuss in depth the possibility of a "Plus One" game to be started with the 2011 bowl season, which would bring in a 4 team play off. There have been a few calls for an 8 team play off.

Much like the Basketball tournament, you will always have teams that are on the bubble and feel snubbed by not being included........but in an 8 team format, there is a vast difference between input from a 9 or 10 team left out and a 3 and 4 left out.

With no clear cut dominate teams this year, USC , Georgia and even WVU would have been very good choices as well as LSU/OSU.

MI: I imagine a "plus one" (4 teams) is the most that is viable. Could be wrong, of course.
But the college football season has slowly extended itself a pretty good bit from what it was around 1970.
Back then, it was 10 games and then a bowl, if invited. And there were only about 5 bowls then. And back then, the season started around Sept 20-27.
Now, the season starts in late August.
And we have a 12 game regular season, then possibly a conference title game, then a bowl. 14 games.
A "plus one" will mean possibly 15 games for the teams that make the finals.

...or the "cupcake" non-conference schedule can be pruned back to adjust for a small play off format. This would hurt the smaller schools that basically take "abuse money" from the big schools now.

Being a Michigan fan, I'd look for them to select very carefully the "cupcakes" they choose in the future ( and other big name schools as well). Appalachian State was a late fill in when the NCAA expanded the number of games that could be played.

before all these changes get made, keep in mind that just 2 years ago the bcs get it dead on with that usc and texas game , nobody else deserved to play in that game that year. also keep in mind that the pac10 and the bigten just signed a extenstion to play in the rose bowl untill 2013, so before the usc fans cry about it again maybe they should look at there own school and ask them why they signed that extention.

I too think that the "plus one " will be the route that the BCS takes. It will, (if ever) be many years down the road before we see a larger playoff format in College football. The biggest stumbling block to this being implemented in the 2011 bowl season is the Pac 10, Big Ten (i'm ashamed to say!!) and the Rose Bowl. It seams that the Rose Bowl fears it's loss of tradition if a "plus one " format is taken.

Tradition was changed when the BCS was implemented, so I don't see the problem with the posturing by the Rose Bowl. (with Texas and Oklahoma playing there in recent years)

It sounds like the fans would like the "plus one " format, so maybe it will take the Pac 10 and Big Ten being threatened with ommision before they come around. Being a Big Ten fan, I hope they can side step Delaney's (commisioner) attitude and get this done.

This was not a very good BCS bowl season, especially when you look at the big blowouts in the BCS games. (although the plus one format wouldn't have changed those, it just would have given us, hopefully, a more competitive Championship game.)

Being a WVU fan, Im sad to see we dropped the ball against Pitt (anything can happen in a rivalry game. Pitt vs WVU is taken as seriously as Michigan vs Ohio State for us) but running train on Oklaholma makes me want an 8 team playoff. I mean how do you give Georgia and Kansas a BCS bowl game when they dont even win their half of the confrence (granted the won their games) but it just shows how flawed the system really is.

Plus 1 doesnt include enough teams. Just have the first round in the 4 BCS bowl games, the rest on home fields.

I have to admit that I wasn't too impressed with WVU in their game with Pitt, but I think that they were as impressive as anyone in their win over Oklahoma. Especially given the circumstances of having an interim coach and it would have been so easy for them to pack it in and blame it on distractions.

My hat's off to the way they bounced back.

It's ironic if not for the loss to Pitt, and being knocked out of the Championship game, Rodriguez may very well have stayed in West Virginia. I don't believe UM would have approached him if it he were preparing for a National Championship game.

Redhead Kid, I agree that the plus one wouldn't include enough teams, but if college football goes to a playoff system, it will go thru an evolution of sorts..........plus one would merely be a step in that direction.

Michigan DID NOT contact Miles before the SEC Championship game! They received permission to talk to Miles from LSU on the condition they wait until AFTER the game.

ESPN's Kirk Herbstreit broke a story on the morning of the SEC game that Miles had been hired by UM, but that was a false story. (no contact had even occured up to that point per LSU's request) In fact UM never contacted Miles until a couple of days after the game. LSU used this time to get him signed to a contract extension, and UM's AD Bill Martin was on a Florida vacation at the time. This "lost" time is why Martin was taking so much heat on his coaching search prior to the Rodriguez hire.

In a later interview Miles said that the ESPN story was his most embarassing moment in coaching, because he had to address his team before the game about leaving. He also held a pre-game news conference to deny the ESPN story.

Michigan did not contact his Miles agent until after the SEC championship game......and it looks like Martin dropping the ball with Miles worked in their favor as well. Over the last 3 years RR has more wins than anyone and that is with mostly 3 star recruits with the odd 4 or 5 star guy mixed in.

At Michigan he will be getting a few 3 star recruits, a majority of 4's with a sprinkling of 5's thrown in. Give him a few years to get his type of athlete in the system and we will see who benefitted the most from Michigan not getting Miles.

Sometimes it's the deal thats not made that shows the biggest dividend.
Only time will tell.

and the point is what, miles has won a national championship, rich r has not, and he has done it in a conference that is MUCH MUCH better then the big east, go ask ohio state!! you make a good point about Sometimes it's the deal thats not made that shows the biggest dividend , but like u said only time will tell. sometimes u luck out and the second hand choice works out for u.

Debating anything with you is like talking to a Notre Dame fan....it's all about you or the SEC. It's funny you can't pick one team, you have to follow a whole conference, which would lead me to suspect your teams not so hot!!

Of course Les Miles is a good coach!!!...where do you think he learned that at??
University of Michigan and the Big Ten!!

Even if they approached him I doubt he'd leave if he was going for a national championship. Oh well. We have some crazy old dude with a really good staff around him. All he needs to do is hold the team together and we'll be able to knock anyone off. I really think WVU was the best team last year, we just play down to weaker teams and actually show up against a big team. Oh well.

Michigan went after 4 other coaches before Rich Rod.. and I loved his introduction "Im glad to come into the tradition of Michigan football" Lately the only tradition Michigan has is losing.. and they're probably going to go 3-8 4-7 next year.. be interesting to see if they fire him.

I also heard the Dolphins were interested in Rich Rod, thatd make me laugh.

actually iam a diehard tennessee vol fan,we have had are up and downs over the last 5 years or so,i wouldnt label a not so hot team. the reason that people always bring up the fact about the s.e.c is because u have to point it out, look if a team played no good teams all year and went undefeated people would point that out,so it goes hand in hand unlike notre dame fans , sec fans arent delousional, were just proud of the conference that we play in.speaking of learning where to coach, is that why tressel has so much sucess against the wolverines, because he refined his coaching skills at a 1aa program, sure does seem that michigan has alot of problems with them 1AA things, you know like app. state, lol. just kidding, honestly i was happy that michigan won its bowl game ,it was good to see carr go out with a win and be carried off the feild, plus i will never root for the gators, go vols
