Jkd has punching in it ,plus its wing chun one day jujitisu next then kali and so on.
punching in self defense is a very secondry weapon, open hands is much more effective,
and powerful.
punching for most women is not viable anyway ,long nails and weaker hands is no
good for punching, but long nails are great weapons for ripping the leather off someones face
open handed strikes are formidable weapons .
belts have nothing to do with self defense,if you want one go and buy one ,they cost about
5 pounds ,but are you going to wear it out on a saturday night?.
Real self defense requires no setups ,stances ,or rote techniques.
The British took this idea against the japanese in ww11 ,who were presumed skilled in
karate and jujitsu and the japanes died!!.
The american government requested the system, the founder of the system was sent
over to teach the americans .it is still taught today -because it works.
So why do you Brits and Americans want an asian martial art ,when your own is
superior?.

Jeet Kune Do has more than punching it also has grappling, ground fighting, kicking and punching. It uses the principles or fencing, boxing, and many martial arts. Don't you ever watch Bruce Lee movies, he does a lot of kicking also.

You should stop watching films and do your home work.
techniques do not win fights ,especially hollywood ones .
Before you give info on a subject like this, make sure it is
correct , other wise someone might believe you and die
because you gave them false information.

Dude do you have a clue who Bruce Lee is? Have you read his books? Bruce Lee was a street fighter in Hong Kong. I knew a kid who was only 16 years old beating up adults using Bruce Lee's fighting system. Bruce Lee was a martial art way before he was an actor.

Bruce lee died 35 years ago ,you're talking as though you knew him.
His first art was wing chun-boxing and the fencing footwork was added later .
Bruce lee was not a martial art ,but martial artist .
british /american close combat has the highest number of confirmed kills of any
martial art -fact.
Under extreme pressure all fine motor skills go out the window!
the brain will only allow gross motor skills.
This why the british and american close combat****d the japs .

If you can't get to a class or take a class, there are a LOT of videos on the web showing you quite a few techniques, have a party of gf and watch it together and try to develop the muscle memory of the movements, test each other. LOL I caught my sons teaching their then six year old baby sister one time. One son had used duct tape and pillows to completely cover the other... they pulled their mattresses out to the garage and then let my daughter beat them up. They did actually show her proper technique. LOL

It's interesting because a lot of the control techniques that we learn in my line of work are meant to subdue and maintain control of the subject, and there are a lot of things that are considered lethal force that we can't do, but women who have been trained to protect themselves, are taught some moves that could be lethal force, or severely damaging to a man, so I had to point out to the guys, if they ever have to restrain a woman who has been taught self-defense, she WILL be going for specific areas on them and she WILL be using lethal force. In other words, that 90 pound weakling, while you are expecting her to to move one way or to be easily subdued, will kick yo azzzzz.

The problem with wing chun,is the fraud aspect of it,like karate, tae kwon do ect, fixed
forms serve,no beneft at all as all fights are chaos.
so spending years perfecting a reality that does not exist,is a dangerous one.

No !wing chun does not work very well at all,if its not natural,it ain't right .
under duress ,all fine motor skills go out the window, only gross ones will be used.
sitting on your back leg chain punching, looks good ,but not natural.
However the few natural ones it does use,are effective, and can be taught in about 15 minutes. Many wing chun people will tell you it takes years to learn these devastaing
techniques-they are lying to you .

I took a self-defense class run by the local police force.

I was rubbish at it and the instructor told me that my best defence would be to run away.

Montreal Guy you give some great, practical advice here. The best self defense courses teach the techniques that work for people of any size and strength; simple techniques that inflict a lot of pain quickly. The problem a lot of women have when it comes to self defense is the idea of hurting someone, which is why I think some of the best classes are the ones that bring out the big guy all decked out in padding so the gals can punch and kick him without fear of hurting him. The key to defending yourself is to know how to inflict a lot of pain to someone very quickly, then get away before they can recover. Often people take these classes, learn the techniques, but then fail to practise them. Once learned, these techniques must be properly practised on a regular basis because when you are in duress your body will respond automatically, and you want it to be the appropriate response. Classes that also teach how to avoid dangerous situations, and 'verbal judo' are also good. It really does come down to mind set. You must be willing to really hurt someone or all the martial arts training in the world won't do you any good.

Tae Kwon Do is a sport rather than a martial art. Jeet Kune Do and Hapkido schools are not as available by location for everyone.
Being female you should look to two others I like for their flexibility and the simple fact that they will give you a chance even with much larger or stronger opponents. Most places of modest size are likely to have Judo (another sport) or JuJitSu. They also have what I consider another advantage of giving you a fair bit of control over the amount of damage you inflict. So At a minimal level of pain if they cease their attack you can wait for help and into custody they go with out having to dislocate elbows etc. No one wants to beat a mentally disturbed homeless person senseless when they might have just been belligerent but not really violent, but I can see why you wouldn't want to take a beating on the chance that is the case either.

You must use the fright reaction, its natural fast and powerful.
open handed shots ,male or female are much much better than punching.
This is why you push a car "not with your fists"but with your palms!!!!.

If you take self defense classes, you will be taught to treat the bad guys with a certain delicacy. After the class, you supposedly can "disable" or "neutralize" your opponent. The fact is, most women don't have the basic killing instinct. Sure you can smash somone's nose in with the palm of your hand into his brain matter, bite off his ear, kick him in the testicles! But what happens when all you done is stunned him and made him more madder and crazier than before? Your attacker will smack you back. Your best defense is defusing the situation by talking or walking, if your body screams fight or flight it is best to pick what's behind door number to two and run like hell or you can fight, but hopefully your packing Smith & Wesson!

Anyhow here's a few pointers to not be a victim:
1. Be aggressive in look and posture.
2. Never take your eyes off your opponent or blink.
3. Think of ways to distract your assailant.
4. Attack, never defend.
5. Try to use any weapon, any opening, or trick to conquer.

I've taken a series of Wen Do classes. Wen Do is an organization dedicated to holding self-defence courses taught by women for women. These courses are based on a variety of martial arts techniques which accommodate women's and girls' size and strength differences. Basic courses also cover avoidance and verbal self-defence strategies. I have never had to use what I've learned, but would not hesitate to do so in self defense.

The only way any martial arts are going to help you in a situation is if you keep your head and actually remember it. Under duress, the human mind and body are very hard to keep under control, especially if suddenly attacked. Taking the classes to have "confidence" in yourself is one thing...that helps you avoid becoming a victim. But do you actually need these to have confidence in yourself? Some yes, some no.
Be aware of your surroundings and who is in your immediate area. Try to avoid situations where you may well end up a victim...do you really need to go to the ATM at 11 PM? Probably not. It can wait till morning.
Let those around you know you are aware of them. Look right at them. Even nod your head in their direction.
If you do find yourself in a bad situation, why try to be a hero? Is your wallet actually worth your life? Probably not. If a good swift kick in the nards is not going to allow you to escape, then why bother at all?
Busting a shop window if threatened with bodily harm is a good way to attract attention to your plight, or yelling "fire"...but be prepared to either run away and never say anything about it publically, or be prepared to face the financial consequences of your actions. Paying out 200 bucks for a new window as compared to losing the 20 in your wallet sems to be a bit shortsighted. Also, fire departments can and will bill you for "false alarms" if there was no fire. They can't afford to be called out because someone felt that being mugged would be stopped by having the fire department there....they are NOT cops. Many politicians have backed this up already. and it is a departmental proceedure...the FD may not want to bill you, but they have no choices in the matter.
Often, just flicking your fingers across the eyes, nails first, is enough to allow you a window of opportunity to escape.
Remember at all times...you are sheeple. You are not wolves. You are the hunted ones. The police are NOT there to protect you, they are there to pick up the pieces and try to catch the bad guys. You do NOT have the right to protect yourself or your property with enough force to stop a determined criminal. You will be the one treated as a criminal. You are expected, as a sheeple, to run away, if possible...not to kick the crap out of some scumbag.
Keeping all that in mind next time you are out will help keep you out of trouble.
