Half the 17 year olds around are more mature than 25 year old males anyway. The age barriers are not that large you know... I agree with the whole 'leave the kids to be kids' but at 17 I was living alone and fending for myself in a different state to my family. As far from a kid as you get! In Australia it is legal for a girl to have sex at 16 IF the guy is no older than 18..... if he is 19 then it is statutory rape. 18 years is the 'no holds bared' age of concent. I know because a couple of years ago, a mate of mine in Sydney was going out with a 17 year old when he was 19 and the parents had him charged with stat rape. He got of the charge and they are now married but man.... Christmas with the in-laws is a bit awkward! Ha ha!! | |

Just because a 17 year old girl can imitate a woman doesn't mean that she is a woman, she's a minor plain and simple, I can make mango chicken, doesn't make a chef.
In this neck of the woods, most 25 years old guys avoids 17 years old girls, not because of the legal ramifications of this type of relationship but how the two of them are going to look like big freaks at the prom.
If you want to date 17 years olds because you think they are mature enough, go for it just dont be surprised when one of those girls father strings up by your nuts or you end up wearing state property as a guest of government ...freak. | |

I am 30 and i have found that there's NO WAY that a 17 year old knows enough to know if they are capable of handling sex, a relationship, and EVERYTHING that comes from any single one of the things aforementioned - I know I didn't. I also remember swearing up and down at the time, that it ALL made sense at the time - and what a fool I was. Thank god I made it out of my teenage years without permanently damaging my life by having a kid et all.
The fact of the matter is it takes all types ... it just depends on the intelligence (truly) of the person ... while I still agree that at 17 there's no way for that kind of intelligence to be there no matter what they have been through or have learned. You know it and so do I ... here's the worst part of it all. No matter what advice we give anyone as far as this subject is concerned, we already know what happens next:
The 25 year old won't listen (becase he will be too concerned with his little head instead of realizing that a child is STILL a child until they are at least 21 - and that being said by a Canadian where the legal limit is 18), he will seduce her, she will fall for it (being still innocent in the head) and after it is all said and done and she is our age, she will think back on it all and hold her head down a little because she will realize that maybe that wasn't the smartest thing to do (in shame) ... even though what bunnni said applies in real life (unfortunately) ... I wish we could change the world (as we both obviously have a good grasp on what is right and what is wrong) - but relaity would state ... it has happened a thousand times over ... :(.
It sickens me too. If I could only go back and change time with what I know now ... here's to having the age to have the maturity and wisdom to know our own faults. I feel bad for the younger generations than we are. Kids don't know what it is like to be kids anymore. They don't know it but it's true. I just had a little boy 1 1/2 years ago, and watching him grow is sooooo nice but I fear for him when he's a teenager if this is what it is like now.
I remember a time that they didn't even say "****" on TV ... I miss it. Sad ... | |

personally i think 14 is waaaaay too young. my personal rule is no one under 18, not that i make a habit of going for men quite that young anyways. while i have gone out with younger guys, anything with the word "teen" attached to it makes me a little uncomfortable.
of course the 14 year old might have a different perspective. i had a conversation with a friend last night about his first time...it seems he was 14 and she was 34. he's now 24 and 6'9", so i can only imagine he was very tall and developed at that age...but he states that he disclosed both his virginity and age to her prior to having sex. i dunno how she was able to wrap her head around that and be okay with it. of course he was thrilled about the experience. | |

A responsible adult could control his/her body, actions when confronting a minor CHILD. I dont care if they "look" like an adult or said minor is the one that instigates the flirtation, the adult needs to ACT like an adult, not like a CHILD just out to get laid no matter who it is or who it hurts. This idea that putting a 16 or 17 year old on the same playing field as a 27+ year old man/woman is ridiculous. I have a daughter who is 19 now, I can see differences in the last year to two years in her maturity, in her decision making...at 16 or 17, mature or not, they have no business playing "adult games" and its quite disconcerting that so many people (men predominantly) seem to think that just because a CHILD is willing to have sex with them, that makes it ok and everyone else should just mind their business. Grow up, youre still acting like a child, much more immature and irresponsible than the CHILD you seem to think its ok to have sex with. I would venture a guess in saying that most of you wouldnt feel that way if you had a 16 year old son/daughter who had a 30 year old adult trying to sleep with them, and if you say youre ok with that, you have no business having children. | |

It is in most states of the US 17 year old girls are allowed to have sex with whomever they wish. The age of consent is 18 in only the following: Arizona, California, Florida, Idaho, North Dakota, Oregon, Tennessee, Virginia, Wisconsin, and for US citizens outside the US except US military (16).
So in most areas of the US a 17 year old female would be able to have sex with whoever she wants. I live in a state where the age is 18, I attend a week long arts festival in a neighboring state where the age is 16. Most of the attendees are from California, where the age is 18. Often times parents will get upset when they find their 16 year old daughter in a compromising position with a 21 year old hipster and want to press charges only to learn that if it was consensual, they can't. | |
