just for you Mage....

Hornish to run 5-6 races in the final 10: Sam Hornish Jr. plans to run five to six of the final 10 races in the Nextel Cup season for Penske Racing, team owner Roger Penske said on Saturday. Penske said the 2006 Indianapolis 500 champion, who is considering a full-time ride in Cup next season, will turn his focus to stock cars as soon as the Indy season ends on Sept. 9. Hornish's first Cup race could come in the championship Chase opener at New Hampshire International Speedway. "That's the game plan right now," Penske said before the start of the Cup race at Bristol Motor Speedway. "Obviously, he's got to qualify. But he did a good job at Michigan and if there is a chance to run cars every week, we'll see." Penske would like to keep Hornish's focus on Car of Tomorrow races -- New Hampshire, Dover, Talladega, Martinsville and Phoenix -- because that is the car NASCAR will use full time in 2008. "I told him the more experience you get the better you're going to be," Penske said. "We'll see."(ESPN.com)(8-25-2007)

Nascar has better attendance at tracks compared to F1

Your very right lucky NASCAR's track attendance is better. There is a reson for this. NASCAR's race in a ovel with banked corrners (which you know ) And have concrete wall's all around. (again I know that you know this as well bare with me). In the event of an accident the cars hit the wall or go down into the infield. So none of the fan's at the race are hurt for this reason they can get closer and see the whole race all the way around the track. In F1 there are no banked corners and at the speeds that these car's are doing if one goes of the track there has to be a long run off area so the car can scrub off speed. Because of this the fan's have to stand a fare bit back from the track and race and it's harder to see the cars. This is done for fan saftey. Before they had the run off zone when car's went of the track fan's were getting killed and hurt. And you stand at one corner you can't see the whole track or race.
North Americans are far more attached to ther car's and there looks and can identify easier with NASCAR becuse they look like there family street car. A CHEV. a FORD. a DODGE.
Most Europeans use car's to get from point A. to point B. walk, bike or ride the trains car's just arn't as big a part of there every day life. So for them F1 car's are easyer for them to Identify with. They also like the skill it takes to race around a rode corse. Some do like fast cars and some like good looking cars and they make some of the finest cars in the world. So does North America.
Also they call it the world championship for a reason.... drivers from every country in the world have raced in F1 and men from every county have won the world championship. Bottom line I just like racing of all kinds...... but my heart is with formula car's cause thats where my racing days come from ............

good point about the euros and their cars. i mean take the germans for instance, if they were so obsessed with driving they would have built some highway with no speed lim..................never mind. maybe this country is a little bigger and more spread out making it harder to go from point a to point b without driving a car. and aren't some f1 races run here in the states? watkins clenn for example?

You miss the point Flthy...... In North America Kids can hardly wait to turn 16 so they can drive...me for one when I tured 16 my son as well???
Euro's have a way better transit system then we do........ I work 25 k from my house I start at 7am....busses don't run till 6:30am???? I have to drive or I would never make it!!!. Most germans that drive fast cars on the autobon are alot older and can afford a fast Porsche. I know my Uncel is one of them. Most of my cousins in Germany don't drive????. they take the transit system. And those that do drive only drive when they have to. There roads arn't as good as ares. The whole of North America road system is set up to drive a car. Are Transit system SUCKS!! so we all drive.

our transit system does indeed suck. and many people don't even own a car in our major cities. but if i want to go from hooterville to mayberry i better have a car. if this country was the size of any of the european countries i'm quite certain our transit system would be more efficient. is the reason your cousins don't drive because they can't afford it or is it because they don't need to or because the transit system is such a good time?

JV will finish the rest of this season in NCTS and possible few cup races with BDR and start full time in Cup in 08 for BDR , sounds like BDR said the test with JV in truck went well and they were impressed with JV, he will next be in truck in Kentucky next week and an Acra race at Dega .

9.2 million square km. and i'm just quoting the encyclopedia britanica. so i really don't know about some of the south eastern countries if they were included or not. stiil it is bigger than germany, britain , france and the others that the poster above me suggested it's not.

Well I, personally, am looking forward to next year in NASCAR with the open-wheel guys coming over. Montoya will have a year under his belt and (hopefully) not do such stooopid things on the track. Sam Hornish has been quick everywhere he's raced for years. Villeneuve's test went very well, and he's got the talent and a desire to finish off his career with some success. If there's one thing about JV, it's that in a lot of ways, he's like his father -- no fear. And I can't forget A.J. Allmendinger, who's been there this year in NASCAR, but failed to qualify. I think he might just need a better car as he drove away from the field in his last year in the CHAMP car series when he came in as a 'sub' -- a very quick driver with excellent reflexes. Gonna be a good year next year, I think. Enough to get this lifetime open-wheel guy tunin' in to the good ol' boys on the weekend.

IMHO-Montoya could not get a contract in F1,so his options were limited.Go to the open wheeled series in the US and ppl would forget about him.If he goes to Nascar and does well it just proves the best drivers are not all in the US as some think. If he bombs in Nascar it will be forgotten soon.He had nothing to lose.

JV,well I hope he does well, but I think he's past his best before date. All he did was prove a car could win Canadian athlete of the year in 97,and has been almost been forgotten since. If he wants to prove himself, maybe he should have started in the Nascar Canada Series like Andrew Ranger who has to prove himself again.JV's got enough money to own his own team there and use it as a toy or test session.

And i think Franchetti is staying in open wheel now,to bad, would have liked to see Ashley Judd at the races

It has to be for the money.

Sorry Nascar fans, its popularity astounds me. They all run flat out, no late braking the other guy , anyway, dont understand how people prefer Nascar over open wheel.

And that loud mouth, Waltrip with his "boogity booogity,,, ", sheesh he is the worlds most annoying human ever. I consider Nascar the wwf of auto racing. Only will watch the road races.

Oval , the IRL is way more fun to watch. Different strokes for different folks I guess.

The American LeMans Series / Rolex Grmad Am is great racing , the Belle Isle race was great fun.

THAT IS WHAT MAKES THIS WORLD SO WONDERFUL!!!

WE ARE ALL SO DIFFERENT. WE HAVE DIFFERENT LIKES AND DISLIKES.

SOME OF US DISLIKE A LITTLE BIT MORE THAN OTHERS ON A PARTICULAR SUBJECT hehehe

I THINK THE BOTTOM LINE FOR ME IS TO KNOW YOUR SUBJECT BEFORE COMMENTING. I HAVE TRIED TO WATCH EVERY KIND OF RACE IMAGINABLE(EXCEPT TRACTOR RACING-NOT READY FOR THAT YET).....soooo....I can say...

NASCAR all the way and if the F1 & IRL guys(and gals?) want to jump ship: go for it

The only concern I have is for them to drive like they are in NASCAR and not open wheel. Make sense?

Oh I dont think that is a problem, Tony Stewart, Juna Montoya, both left open wheel and adjusted fairley quick to Nascar. Patrick Carpentier did remarkably well at the Busch Race in Montreal.

A racer is a Racer, give one a bit of time and they adjust. Jeff Gordon as an example, could switch to open wheel and do great, I have no doubt. Jimmy Clark back in the 60`s did quite well running the big Galaxies.

One trend I do welcome, is that recently we see more and more drivers crossing to different genres of racing, similar to the 60`s and 70 `s when guys would drive in different series. Still miss Mark Donahue, he was an expert at that.

Love seeing the Nascar guys running in the rolex 24 hour at Daytona along with Champ Drivers, IRL guys too.

If the comment, "read on a subject before commenting" was directed at me, well, I have been an auto racing fanatic since I was 5 years old. Stirling Moss was my heroe back then. (Way before it got so popular, I was following all the racers including Stock Cars).

Had to save my allowance to get the latest motor racing news ! Very little tv coverage back then with the 1 or 2 channels we got . No show business to mix with the racing back then, had to be a fan to follow it, love it!

-- Dario Franchitti will become the latest open-wheel star to make the jump to NASCAR.
A source close to the negotiations said Franchitti will sign with Chip Ganassi Racing to drive the No. 40 Dodge beginning in 2008. David Stremme, the current driver of the No. 40, has already been told he will not have the ride next year.
The source, who asked to not be identified because details of the agreement have not yet been finalized, said Ganassi and Franchitti decided to make the announcement after the end of the IndyCar Series schedule, which ends with Sunday's PEAK Antifreeze 300 at Chicagoland Speedway.
He will join Juan Pablo Montoya, another former open-wheel star, a heralded rookie with Ganassi's NASCAR Nextel Cup team this season. Franchitti and Montoya tied for the CART -- now Champ Car -- series points lead in 1999, with the Colombian driver winning the title on a tiebreaker -- four more wins.
Franchitti, who currently drives for Andretti Green Racing, goes into Sunday's race with a three-point lead over Ganassi driver Scott Dixon in the battle for the series title.
"Right now, all I want to concentrate on is winning this championship and then winning the [Grand Am Sports Car Series] championship next week in Utah,'' Ganassi said Saturday. "All this other stuff can wait until after that.''
Franchitti also declined to talk about the future, saying, "I'm trying to win a championship here, and that's all I want to talk about.''
Speculation on the 34-year-old Franchitti's racing future began in May after he won the Indianapolis 500 for the first time. The Scotsman works on one-year contracts, so he would become a free agent on Dec. 1.
Although he has gotten along well with his teammates, there has been some recent friction with team co-owner Michael Andretti after Franchitti and Andretti's son, Marco, crashed late in the race last month in Sonoma, costing Franchitti a shot at a win and, at the point, the series lead.
Franchitti said he and the elder Andretti "talked things out'' at a dinner last week in Detroit.
It is expected that Franchitti, who has yet to drive a stock car of any kind, will get a quick course in the sport from Ganassi, who plans, according to the source, to enter him in a series of ARCA and NASCAR Busch Series races to get him up to speed.

George Gillett, majority owner of Gillett Evernham Motorsports, said Canadian racer Patrick Carpentier will drive a Cup car for them during the Chase this season and probably will race full time in Cup for GEM next year.
"I think there's a very good chance of that," Gillett told CKAC radio in Montreal. "Patrick is a fine young man and a great driver. He will be in some car for us at some of the races, if not all races, the rest of the season."
Gillett also said the team plans to add a fourth car for some races the rest of this year. Co-owner Ray Evernham said they probably would put Carpentier in a car at the Phoenix race on Nov. 11, the next-to-last race of the season.
GEM has three drivers -- Kasey Kahne in the No. 9 Dodge, Elliott Sadler in the No. 19 and Scott Riggs in the No. 10 car. But Riggs' status for 2008 in uncertain because GEM is considering a merger with Petty Enterprises. That could have an impact on whether Carpentier races for GEM next season.
Carpentier, 36, is a veteran open-wheel driver who raced in Champ Car and the IndyCar Series. He made his NASCAR debut in the inaugural Busch race at Montreal last month, finishing second in a Fitz Motorsports Dodge on the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve road course.
"Patrick will be testing our car at Kentucky Speedway," Gillett said. "If he drives as well on the ovals as we think he will, I think there will be a place for him."

Having previously driven the Toyota Tundra Truck in which he may contest some of the remaining races of the Craftsman Truck Series this season, JV was behind the wheel of the team’s Car of Tomorrow – the car that is in development for next season’s Nextel Cup Challenge.Veteran stock-car crew chief Slugger Labbe was expecting Jacques to be up to speed by lunchtime. In fact, he was on the pace after just 3 laps and able to concentrate for much of the day on set-up work. Both Jacques and the crew were feeling good after a positive day’s work, despite JV finding the track ‘quite tricky’.
In all, Jacques completed 162 laps.
"I told him the Car of Tomorrow next week will pretty much be everything that he thought," Labbe reported. "The trucks have more downforce and a bigger spoiler and you're able to do more on a truck than you are with a Car of Tomorrow. The Car of Tomorrow is our future and we've got to get comfortable with it. I've done a lot of things in racing, but having a guy from Formula One on a racetrack for the first time was a pretty neat experience, to see how well and how fast he adapted. It just goes to show you, if there's a good racecar driver out there, it won't take him long to adapt."

Going to NAPCAR......is like going from Major League Baseball down to Double A ball.

Kinda like how going from Formula One to USAC was considered in the old days.

You know I see you guys blasting Nascar but if it`s so bad for these guys why have so many looked into going to Nascar , since JPM came more have been looking into it Dario is soon to be joining CG team and JV getting approved to test the COT cars JV will see him soon at Dega in an Arca car .
Even Danika Patrick has checked into Nascar,Nascar already has some IRL drivers that come in to Busch races, these guys are coming in to join because money to be made in Nascar and there driving career will last longer.
I have nothing against F1 or IRL as I watch those type races as well.
JPM said he has been happy in Nascar and finds other drivers and fans interact more in Nascar than the other sports.
